Thursday 5th December 2013 Landed in Miami on a nearly empty American Airlines 757 from Cancun; and hung around the airport waiting for Max to arrive from San Francisco 2 hours later. We had put one of our bags in storage at the airport five days earlier and managed to retrieve it and pay the small daily fee hassle free. Other friends were also on the same flight as Max, so with everyone and bags in tow we jumped on the free shuttle to our chosen La Quinta Inn and Suites airport hotel. After dumping the bags at the hotel the hunger pangs set in and we ambled over to a 24 hour Irish pub/hamburger restaurant right next door called Bennigans, serving Indian and Mexican and closing at 2am – go figure! At last, a blog that's not October 30th. Starbucks baby! Skinny latte in order, sat in wonderful Florida winter temperatures, not too humid, just perfect. Headed off to Little Havana, what a cool place, pretty much felt at home as everyone spoke Spanish, actually more people spoke Spanish than they do in Mojácar! Had to try a typical Cuban family restaurant and true to form it was packed with elderly Cuban women talking at 500 decibels on one massive long table. Ordered lunch, the guys, huge Cuban sandwiches with more meat than I have ever seen, me a large bowl of Frijoles or black bean soup, luckily beans don't have 'that' affect on me! So i slept very well till half past 9 and began the morning with an awesome feeling. Just stepping outside, sun is shining like madness, And during breakfast just talk to people who know proper english. I had roasted bagels with nutella, banana and some coffee as breakfast. I checked out the touristic folders about what stuff i could do in miami and florida. Rob the british fellow from last night joined me and we discussed the possible day trips we could do together. Later that day we decided to go to the everglades the next day with the british group. The everglades is a national park spot, like an hour drive west from miami. 4 intensive fun days in Miami. My friend Zoe, I met a few years ago in India, showed me the exciting lifestyle of Miami. I had the best time in a loooong time. 19/5/13 Fort Myers Beach Survived the night despite the feuding couple – I half expected to hear gun shots and it was another glorious hot sunny day, so it’s off to the beach. We had a quick stop at Walmart to buy a smart price beach umbrella (cheaper than hiring one) and drove down to Fort Myers Beach. Parking was pretty expensive but just back from the sea road we found a pair of enterprising pensioners who had turned their garden into a parking lot and for $5 you could park there all day. We finally got away from Mrs Pensioner who was delighted we were English and proceeded to tell us all about her son who was stationed at Mildenhall with the air force and all of his accomplishments, bless her.
