Hello to Our Dear Friends... Sorry for the delay in getting this blog up and running. We've now been in the States for over 3 weeks and we have been rather busy with all kinds of things. Like buying a car, driving to Florida, finding a place to live, getting settled in, and starting to explore and enjoy Northern Florida. According to the locals, it's been cold since we arrived. True enough, temperatures last night fell to almost freezing. But it's been sunny almost every day, and usually plenty warm to hang out by the beach or pool. Erik is learning how to surf, and I am trying to get the hang of surf kayaking. Gunilla is reading, walking, and exercising more than she has in years. Does Ann know how cold that water is? You may be wondering why I, a good SEC fan, am traveling to the Gator Bowl to see Nebraska play Clemson. A fair question, and one that I hope to make clear at some point; but for now, we’re in Jacksonville, Florida and we need a late night liquor store. I know, “who doesn’t?” but on this occasion it’s proving a little more difficult than it ought to be. Finding a late night liquor store should be easy anywhere in the Christian world, just look for the part of town with the discount tobacco, lottery tickets, massage parlors, bail bonds, and pawn shops specializing in jewelry. Et oui effectivement, j'ai encore du mal à me dire que dans deux semaines, c'est Noël! Effectivement, quand il fait beau, qu'on peut se balader en tee-shirt, que le ciel est bleu et que les décorations de Noël sont sur des palmiers, on n'est pas vraiment dans l'ambiance! Je m'excuse pour l'irrégularité de mes "posts": un mot tout nouvellement appris faisant parti du langage de blogueurs et signifiant en quelque sorte "article". En fait, depuis quelque temps, je ne fais RIEN à part profiter des derniers instants avec les Internationaux qui repartent tous dans leurs pays, nous ne sommes que cinq à rester sur une quarantaine et aussi, surtout, parce que trois semaines de folies m'attendent avec au programme: Miami (encore??), Les Keys (le charme des Caraïbes et le point le plus au sud des Etats-Unis ... read more

En fait, ce n'était pas vraiment une soirée américaine car il n'y avait pas de beer-pong... C'était plutôt une soirée avec des jeunes américains complètement insouciants: ma colocataire et ses amis. Même sans beer-pong, l'américain est très fort pour boire beaucoup et vite (vous me direz, le français n'est pas mauvais à ce jeu-là non plus). Donc en à peine une heure et demi, un américain a fini à dormir dans la baignoire... Enfin tout ça pour dire qu'on rigole bien avec ces américains qui se demandent toujours pourquoi des Français viennent dans leur campagne (Jacksonville est quand même la plus grande ville de Floride). Arthur's visit to Jacksonville University. We arrived yesterday about 4pm and took a drive to check out the beach. It was about a 30 minute drive from our hotel (Hyatt Regency, Downtown) and we found a nice residential area just north of Atlantic Ave. Of course Arthur wants me to buy a house there for him and his future college buddies. Being reasonable, he indicated he didn't need a house on the beach block because the houses a block or two in from the beach would be much cheaper, but still walking distance w/ a surfboard. LOL! We're off to visit the campus and meet the crew coach this morning, after a little breakfast. This hotel is very nice (meets Arthur's standards) and is the same hotel Continental uses for the crews long overnights. So far ... read more
