Well after a gruelling bus trip we made it to Niagara and the station is in the middle of nowhere. A quick decision and we were in a taxi getting to our Hostel in the centre of town. Our Hosts are lovely, Patrick and Shelly are Vancouver natives but their passion for Niagara Falls and its surrounding attractions is infectious. Even though it is early evening we head out to have my first glimpse of the famous waterfalls. Jay has travelled here before and he is just as excited to be doing this all over again and is one of the few places that he has visited twice on this journey. The falls don’t disappoint and I go snap happy with the camera and take bucket loads of photos even though I know we are coming ... read more

This morning we set out early after a breakfast at our B&B “Rainbow”. The B&B is not the best, but the location is a nice short walk from the falls and the glitz of the Niagara falls “strip”. We got in line early for the “Maid In The Mist”, a classic that really is the best thing to do to see the falls in a unique way. We dawned our ponchos and neared the falls until the spray engulfed us and a fresh drink of waterfall was in our mouths. I thought about going over the falls in a barrel, which is still legally permissible - but chickened out at the last minute. We packed a lunch and made the short drive up to Niagara On The Lake for some wine tasting. It is a beautiful ... read more

Robyn Loves The Falls!

A filmshoot I had in Niagara Falls afforded Robyn and me a nice getaway for Labor Day weekend. We got to Buffalo and drove up to Niagara Falls from there. My shoot lasted only a few hours in the morning and so Robyn and I got a splendid sweet and savory crepe at Paris Crepes Bistro Café on Queen street. Then we had just enough time in the afternoon to visit “Bird Kingdom” (what’s most important really). We had a blast seeing so many birds and even feeding the mild mannered lorikeets. They perched calmly on our shoulder and drank nectar with glee from a little plastic cup. One particularly lazy one stayed on my shoulder for a LONG time, I nicknamed him “Turtles”. Robyn and I walked down and saw the “strip” that Niagara Falls ... read more

Since we go through Buffalo, NY to get to Niagara Falls we decided we must stop for dinner at the home of the "original buffalo wings" The Anchor Bar. It was in downtown Buffalo in a neighborhood that has seen better days which made us a little nervous about leaving our travel carrier on the car. Luckily, the restaurant was nice and had a fun decor of license plates from all over the country on the walls.  After a wait of what seemed forever, we were happily covered in wing sauce. Man, they were good!! Sorry, we ate them all. :) Next stop Canada. The customs wait was long and we were worried about missing the 2 story pool slide. We walked into our room just before the fireworks began on the falls. The view from our ... read more

The fact of the matter is that you can just sit there for hours just staring at them; first the American Falls with the good sized boulders constantly bombarded with the cold water of the Niagara River, then just to the right, the Canadian Falls or “Horseshoe Falls” as they are known, which majestically tumble into the same river with the constant company of the Maid of the Mist tourist boats. Sure, this is a well crafted tourist destination, with all the major hotel chains, the Hard Rock Café, Planet Hollywood, multiple casinos and even an indoor water park which we’re sure impresses the many kids who burn off energy going down the multiple slides into the heavily chlorinated water, not to mention the parents who have successfully found a way to tire out the little ... read more

Couchsurfing is truly an amazing thing. It makes traveling anywhere possible because wherever you want to go, you have a place and a friend to stay with. Well after my trip to Vermont for Memorial Weekend, I decided to head to Niagara Falls for the hell of it. I made the seven hour drive up there on my own, but very smoothly, jamming out to my ipod the whole way. The only inconvenience of the entire trip came when it was time to cross the border to get into Canada. The Canadian immigration questioned me about every detail of my short trip to Canada, asked me what I had been doing in South America and how I funded such a trip, and searched every inch of my car before letting me into the country. What a ... read more

We made it to the border today, around 4:00-ish or something. After a lengthy interrogation from a friendly Border Patrol, we crossed into Canada. It was my first time in a foreign land, but both of us were startled by the immediate changes. Speed limits were in kilometers, bags of chips were written in French, moose roamed the sidewalks, and cars drove on the left side of the road. The Niagara Falls are two tremendous waterfalls, both reaching over 700 feet into the air, and stretching over 8,000 feet wide. They pour a staggering 500 million cubic meters of water over their edges and into the rocky fathoms of its pits every minute. People can stand behind the railings right next to where the Horseshoe Falls drop, but those who veer too far over the edge ... read more

So today was the day my geography class was going to visit Niagara Falls. It was going to be a long yet fun day. So first thing I did was get to school early. The bus was leaving at approximately eight so we had to be there at least fifteen minutes early. Everyone was at school and we decided to leave, little did we know we left someone behind. Luckily we drove past him and picked him up. So as we're driving we hit some heavy traffic leaving Toronto. It was taking a long time to leave Toronto and everyone was getting a little restless. To help the time go by I decided to read a book called A Brave New World . After what seemed like forever we finally arrived at Niagara Falls at around ... read more

Yesterday we visited Niagara Falls. It was interesting to compare these falls with Iquazu. Both are beautiful. Iquazu is three kilometres in jungle environment and heat, yesterday Niagara Falls still had glacial-type snow at bottom of falls. We took the Maid of the Mist boat to get up in front of the falls. This was fun; quite the experience. I was pleasantly surprised at the price,$14.95 each. When I think of the entry price to Iquazu and MachuPicchu and some museums in South America, the Niagara Falls boat trip is a bargain. Everyone in the boat laughed while getting soaked. Being so close to the rushing falls was awesome...yes, awe inspiring awesome. There was leftover snow and ice at the bottom of the falls that looked like vanilla and chocolate ice cream. We were given (wow, ... read more

I think that I had the worst sleep of my life. Some inconsiderate foreign students living in the Toronto hostel were up all night running around and listening to Tupac. So in retaliation, when we got up at 6am to go catch our bus, I hit 'em with a little "Ghetto Gospel", cranking my iPod to full volume. I added a bit of tap dancing and door slamming for good measure. That hostel was rubbish actually, it was old, noisy and the roof leaked, if it was a person it would be a grumpy old man with insomnia and incontinence. Once aboard the Greyhound bus we were a bit dubious to sleep after the whole murder case where an innocent traveller was brutally stabbed to death by a deranged psychopath. So sleep was a little hard ... read more
