It was quite late by the time we arrived in Buffalo as we had to fly through New York to get here. We got a taxi straight to our hotel and were just sat chilling watching a bit of TV when Sharon called to say that she had sent the Fedex and the wallet would arrive by lunchtime the next day. This meant we could still go and hire the car and once again Sharon had found out where we could go that was close to us and it turned out Avis was just down the road. With all that sorted and settled (cheers Sharon) we settled in for a good nights sleep. Waking late we found that the fedex was already at reception so while Tim went to sort out the car I went to ... read more

Well, we had to sadly say goodbye to the Rockies! But canada seamed to have a hold on us as the GPS went crazy and we ended up in farm territory, I felt like dorothy in Kansas. We finally made it in one piece to the airport and were on our way to Niagara Falls! Had to stay overnight in New York to get to the Falls in Buffalo (US side) and then walk across to the Canadian side. Well, the Americans didn't want to make it that easy and this little old lady tourism officer refused to tell me how to get to the Canadian side and kept trying to flog the crappy American side. All we needed was the name of the bridge! We decided to wing it and started running, suitcases and all, ... read more

Due to our delays (which have been up to ten hours) as we travelled across the country by train, we discovered that we had lots and lots of Via rail train credit. So for our eight hour train journey from Montreal to Niagara falls we could afford to travel first class. Was awesome we got food and loads of wine. Niagara was much like I expected, a compleate contrast of the natural beauty of the falls teamed with a street of tourist attractions, tacky shops and a glittering shiney big wheel. America is literally a bridge away from you in Niagara and I didn't realise that one of the falls is American and the other (the horseshoe shaped one) is Canadian. The bridge is named rainbow bridge and as you walk along the waterside on sunny ... read more

We decided to leave the country and visit with our friendly neighbors to the north. The views of Niagara Falls are spectacular from the Canadian side. We headed off to ride on the Maid of the Mist and we were not disappointed. The wind made the trip even more enjoyable, the gusting water pounding on your lovely rain smock, which was sticking to our skin, awesome! 223 Miles traveled in the day. 2,882 miles traveled total. 2E to 90E to I190N to Queen Elizabeth Way to 420E.... read more

We went to Niagara Falls and took a boat called Maid of the Mist, that took you so close to the falls that you got soaked from all the mist. It was really exciting. You could see New York on the other side.... read more

Patrick's lovely plums......! From Ottawa we moved on to Niagara Falls, one of the seven great Wonders of the World and it certainly was magnificent. Instead of the usual day trip from Toronto, which a lot of people that we had met along the way had done or were doing, we chose to stay for 3 nights in Niagara. This later turned out to be a great decision. On arrival at the hostel, we were greeted by our super-friendly host Patrick, who insisted on us sampling some of his delicious, local-grown, yellow plums everytime we passed reception. After a long chat (with our backpacks still on), we finally dropped our bags in our room and headed down to the falls to catch the evening fireworks display. What a beautiful sight this was. Our first glimpse of ... read more

The bus journey from Boston up to Toronto started at 5am. We got the bus from Everett to the subway and then the subway in to the centre of town and the Greyhound station. Our Greyhound bus left at 7am and was due to arrive in Toronto at 20.55. It started off fine and our first three stops and driver changes were fine, everything ran on time, but then we arrived in Buffalo. We arrived 10 minutes after our scheduled arrival time at 17.55 and we were due to leave at 6pm, but due to the utter incompetence of our driver and his faffing around, we didn't leave until 19.30. 15 minutes later we arrived at the Canadian customs. Most of us were through within half an hour but after an hour there were still 4 ... read more

A very early start from New York. The coach is full but everyone seems to be getting on okay. Our guide Miss Penny is very thorough and looks after us well. She is from Texas. As I write this, it is 10pm and we have just eaten. Finally arrived at 6,15 and seemed to wait an age to clear customs. It is very busy here. Then waited to get off the coach as there was an amazing thunder storm. I have been amazed by the countryside we have passed through. Beautiful trees and mile after mile of maize, used to feed cattle. Tomorrow is the Maid of the mist. I think we are both a little scared of this. On the journey up to Niagara we passed through some amazing forest and then into some more ... read more
