This day we decided to do the Manitoba Museum. I was not expecting much, but the museum exceeded my expectations. We got a taxi downtown and toured the museum. It was well laid out, and very interesting. Definitely my type of place with a lot of hands on exhibits. After the museum, we went and had lunch at a small deli downtown. After lunch we did a little walking around and headed back to the hotel in the early evening via taxi. We wanted to get something unique for dinner, but since there was nothing close, we did not know what. The hotel suggested Salisbury House, and said it was a short walk. Well we went, and really liked it. The place was old and worn, but the food and service were great! So glad they ... read more

When researching our trip, we saw that the zoo seemed to be very nice. We all love animals anyways. We visited the zoo and surrounding park this day. It was not far from our hotel and the airport. It was well laid out and nice to walk through. There were hardly any crowds at first so it was nice. We ended near where the polar bears were, and had lunch at the zoo cafe. I had my first poutine there, and although I was hesitant to try it, I really liked it. After the zoo, we walked around Assiniboine Park. This is where more of my wife's research came into play. She found out that Winnie the Pooh was based off of Winnipeg the Bear, and that there was a statue in the park. I would ... read more

In December of 2017, we had taken my father into our home since he was having early stages of dementia. We were wanting to take him on an easy trip. We had taken to Atlanta for a few days in May, and he enjoyed it. I have always wanted to visit Winnipeg, and the flight loads were great for stand by travel. We flew from Indianapolis to Minneapolis on Delta Connection 5460, a CRJ-900 aircraft, and all 4 of us sat in first class. Our connection was Delta Connection flight 5340, and it was the same CRJ-900 that we had flown up on. We all had the same first class seats as well. Minneapolis was having a thunderstorm, but it cleared as we got close to Winnipeg. Our arrival was simple. The Immigration Agent was joking ... read more

Friday and Saturday, September 29 & 30 My room is great! Very compact, huge window, comfortable bed, warm comforter, large bench to sit on during the day, sink, and toilet/footrest which is covered up by the bed at night. Shower down the hall. Dining car is next to us. Breakfast between 6:30-8:30 on a first-come basis, three sittings each for lunch and dinner - we got the coveted middle seating of 1:00-2:00 and 7:00-8:00. Four main course choices for every meal, plus soup or salad, dessert. Activity car always has coffee, tea, fruit, crackers, cookies. Activity room has tables and a small dome section, too. It took the twenty or so hours to travel across southern Ontario with a time change the second night. We got into Manitoba Saturday morning and were able to get off ... read more

The scenery improved as we drove into Manitoba. Trees, lakes and canola fields! Long hot day of driving. 3 more nights and we'll be home. It's been a remarkable journey. Can't wait to get home and put it all together.... read more

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. We are now in Brandon at the Meadowlark Campground where we are feeling decidedly outclassed by our fellow campers in their pricey RVs. We laid out $65 for our tent at walmart. Michele makes into a home that is just as nice (if not quite as comfortable) as any of the $100,000 beauties that surround us. We have now reached the point in our trip where we have to drive to Calgary in order to be able to connect with friends who are only going to be there on June 6th. We put Allan (my Fuji touring bike named in honour of Allan Turing) in his rack on top of the car. We have both made solemn pledges to warn each other about going under anything low ... read more

Geo: 49.8994, -97.1407Steve was just saying yesterday that we have had the most incredible weather so far on this trip. And that was certainly the truth. Then we woke up this morning to heavy rain. It was pouring fiercely outside the hotel. A review of the radar, however, showed it to be centralized over the Duluth area, so I was optimistic that we would drive out of it in quick order. And, as luck would have it, when we went down to pack the car and get going, it was not raining at all!! So we loaded up, jumped in, and were on our way at 8:35 and 63 degrees. And as we pulled out of the parking lot, it began to come down in buckets. I guess we had a little bit of the Irish ... read more

Monday June 6th I graduated! Yay! But that is not why I hopped on a plane several hours after my graduation. Everyone thinks I am on some post-grad journey of self discovery or trying to run away to peace and quiet after a brutal last year from hell. The truth is, now that I am free I am finally free to do what I was born to do, which is to travel. Also my boss at the restaurant needed me in July to fill in for everyone, and I eventually have to do the adult thing and look for jobs in my field so leaving in the middle of the summer made no sense. Plus it is Ramadan AND F1 weekend which means everyone who usually goes to the resto is either not eating supper this ... read more
