Well the last day and a half have been interesting to say the least. The hotel has been taken over by a very large group of rowdy frat boys and sororiety girls. They arrived yesterday morning for a few intense days of drinking in the mountains. There from all over western Canada. They have been keeping work exciting. Yesterday there were girls walking around in ass-less chaps with just thongs on and apparently they kept flashing the staff. They had a no pants party on the 4th floor and some naked girl grabbed one of the servers name tags then ran into the elevator never to be seen again hahaha. They were already stumbling through the staff area drunk this morning at like 10am. Oh and for the boys that read my blog there were two ... read more

The first stop after leaving Banff, besides the hearty breakfast of artery clogging proportions, was Lake Louise which is one of the most famous sites around Banff national park. Featured is a spectacular view that can be seen on various stamps, papers, currency and other canuck approved things. Besides the site of the vast lake and the overshadowing mountains, Lake Louise is know for the imposing Chalet. Another place for the rich and famous to hang out, this monster of luxury has quite possibly the best view any hotel could ask for. The gift shop/museum inside is not meant for poor folk such as myself, as some of the more exquisite jade and other semi precious rock carvings are sold at a bank draining price. Sometime I'll grab one I'm sure. Legally I mean. The drive ... read more

Happy Halloween Ontario friends and family! Last night was the biggest pub night i've seen since I have gotten here. Sadly I missed most of it because I had to work. I know your all crying a river for me hahaha. But I did manage to get off early at the expense of others. That's right I was greedy and the chef in my kitchen offered me the choice of going home early but only if he didn't make any soup for the staff lunch tomorrow. Now this may not seem like a big deal but at the Bean sometimes the only edible thing is the soup but it was Halloween and I couldn't care less about my fellow employees. So today everyone has hungry bellies because the rest of the meal was some sort of ... read more

Greatings from my snowy mountain top. Yes that's right it has started to snow quite a bit lately. We actually have snow on the ground and it seems like it never stops snowing all day long. The aussies are absolutely loving it and I love watching them. They walk around with there heads in the air watching the snow fall all the while getting snowflakes in there eyes. It's very cute, not very smart but cute. Anyways yesterday was my first day off so my friend Stacie and I hoped on the Brewster bus and headed in to Banff for the day. We were told that being in the middle of no where can drive you crazy after a while so fearing a mental break down we decided that a day of shopping was just what ... read more

Yesterday was day one of my life as a professional dishwasher. I am working the night shift so I get to roll out of bed around the same time that I did when I didn't have a job. I start at 4pm and work till 1am so at least on my days off I won't be messing with my sleep schedule. I haven't decided wether or not the job is tolerable yet. You do get extremely dirty and have old food all over you by the end of the first hour but you do pretty much get left alone to do your thing and we also are in the kitchen with the pastry chefs who occassionally give us free baked goods. So i'm thinking cookies trump dirty clothes. I figure by the end of my shift ... read more

Hey All! I am finally getting a chance to get to a computer after a busy week of orientation. I arrived on sunday and as we drove closer and closer to Lake Louise the scenry started reminding me more and more of the kokanee beer bottle label. Just mountains everywhere and yes it has been snowing here but just flurries everyday nothing to big. Oh and Aunt Diane you can tell your fellow employees that the lake is all glacier water so you definatley can't swim in it now and in the summer you don't want to be in there for longer then 15 minutes. I've already met a ton of people because of orientation and no one is really local. Lots of people from Ontario (I even met a guy from Whitby AND he went ... read more

We drove for two days on the Trans-Canadian Highway from Vancouver into Alberta. In most places, the Highway is two lanes and the scenery is beautiful. We spent one night at a rest stop in Revelstoke before arriving in Banff. A rustic campground in the heart of the Canadian Rockies was our base for a two-night stay. One morning in camp, we heard a "bugling" bull elk. When he finally came into view, he was the largest elk we ever saw, with a massive set of antlers. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the camera handy at the time. We did have the camera ready when we spotted a rare pack of black wolves. We were heading to Lake Louise when we saw the car ahead of us slow down on the winding two-lane road. We pulled over ... read more

Ok, so the weather caught up with us..... We woke up to rain and freezing cold. So much for a day of climbing! Oh, well, we decided to take a day trip to Calgary, get some groceries and run some errands. We stopped for lunch at a bar/concert venue that turned out to have fantastic sandwiches. Calgary also apparently shuts down on Sundays, so after lunch we went back "home". As we were rained out of our original climbing plan, we came up with plan B. If the weather sucks tomorrow, we are moving on to Jasper for a pit stop at the Columbia Icefields and the hotsprings. If it's sunny, we're sticking around for some climbing for one more day in Lake Louise. From Jasper we are heading straight for Kamloops, stopping for sleep and ... read more

I just don't know where or how to begin! I am back at Susan's in Burnaby after my romp around Banff & Lake Louise in Alberta. I am totally speechless, but you guys know me, where's there's a will, there's a way so I will do my best to pay justice to the sights I have seen. As you know I booked a tour of Banff in the mornign & did Lake Louise in the afternoon. It was a rather shitty day weather wise (well for photo's anyway) but I did my best. It is the prettiest little village / town I have seen. The major attraction is Banff Ave where pretty much everythign is. All the hotels & the hostel where I stayed (SameSun Backpackers), the major shops & restaurants. I spent the 1st day ... read more

Hi everyone We've had problems accessing the internet as been so busy doing exciting things!!!! (Where we are today we cant add photos as they are charging $5 for 15 mins so will do the best of them in an entry when we can.) We left Red Deer and drove to Banff via the Columbia Icefields - what can we say apart from the fact that the scenery was absolutely stunning and we only hope that the photos we took can do it justice. In Banff we took part in White Water Rafting, took the Gondola to the top of the mountain at sunset and also tried the hot springs. these had changed quite a lot from 1942 when Geoff visited them. We also visited Lake Louise and Moraine Lake two absolutely beautiful bodies of water. ... read more
