Di Wood & Louise Kingston

Lou and Di (Mum & Daughter) are off on another adventure, to South Africa and Zambia this time. It's to mark the recent 40th birthday of one of us, (and a VERY VERY belated one of the other.)

Our last day and a very quick update, we will add the whole story and more photos on our return home. We have been busy trying to see all the wonderful things there are to do here and not even done half so will have to come back. The temp has been in the 30's almost evety day and today is the one day tghat has reallt clouded over. We have been on the red and blue bus tours, to Kirstenbosch Gardens, Camps Bay, Hout Bay, Cape Point & the Cape of Good Hope, Table Mountain, Signal Hill, Llandudno & Scarborough, Simon's Town and the penguins. Now very tired and not looking forward to the overnight flight back to cold Heathrow and for one of us work on Monday morning! Thanks to all who have commented ... read more

We haven't been washed over the falls or eaten by lions, internet access has been a bit sparse only logging on from the phone (hence the spelling mistakes Barbara!). Idube - Update This was amazing, an experience of a lifetime. Thanks to Wessel our guide (& intrepid off roader) and Lonnet our tracker we saw: Male Lions Lionesses with at least 3 cubs (After a bit of off-road manouevering by Wessel) Elephants - herds and singly and some with little ones Cheetah mum with a baby (3 out of the 4 days we were there) Cape Buffalo - once being helpful and feeding the terrapin his tics Rhino & baby Zebra Kudu Impala (most spotted variety of animal!) Puff Adder Birds incuding vulture and eagles, kingfishers and owls plus the oxpickers and thickknee (no idea if ... read more

No photos today (well not yet) as too many to look through and select the best of the bunch! (Those who know Lou will know this is not unusual but we took loads and loads!) The day started with a monkey invading the room to steal sugar but because of that we were treated to a family of 2 adult and 2 young zebra grazing outside the balcony. Then we had breakfast folowed by a guided tour of the falls with the fabulous Arson (pic to follow). Wet doesn't even describe how drenched we were. The falls were faster and more full flowing than yesterday as there had been heavy rain and thunderstorms last night. Even so Lou managed to get really close to the river Zambezi at the top of the fall's Eastern Cataract. After ... read more

A quick update, the falls are absolutely spectacular - if you ever get the chance you must come and see them for yourselves!! Guided tour of the falls tomorrow and sunset cruise (which may be minus the sun as it's rained nearly all day!). Even though there has been a lack of sun, the rain has made the water coming over the falls even more impressive - a lot bigger than Niagara was. Back to Johannesburg on Thurs.... read more

After Heathrow giving us a parting gift of a snowstorm which meant the wings had to be de-iced, we arrived at 9.50am local time at OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg. The welcome was warm and sunny and we even managed a swim before the thunder and lightening has just driven us inside!! Hotel staff are very friendly though we are right under the flight path and can almost see the colour of the pilots' eyes as they come in to land/take off. An early night tonight as we have to be up at 6am to catch our flight to Zambia and the Victoria Falls, we hope to have some photos for you next time we log in. Lou & Di x... read more

Lou and Di are off on another adventure, to South Africa and Zambia this time. It's to mark the 40th birthday of one of us, (and a VERY VERY belated one of the other.) Well, preparations are almost complete, bar last minute adjustments, like what can we leave out of the suitcase in order to meet weight regulations. Excitement is gradually mounting. We expect to arrive in Johannesburg bright eyed and bushy tailed(?)after an 11 hour overnight flight , courtesy of Mr Branson. We have 1 day/night to relax and soak up some SUN (it's snowing here as I write!!!) at an airport hotel, before air transfer on Tuesday to Livingstone in Zambia, where we hope to be amazed and wowed by Victoria Falls and the mighy Zambesi River. Hopefully we will then be able to ... read more

The perfect way to round off our trip in Geoff's footsteps to Canada (see earlier blogs). Mum, me and my dog Luca travelled to the Lake district in the North of England on a very wet and windy day to attend the war memorials in Kendal that both have Geoff's name on them. One in the Market Place and the other in .........Park near Romney Bridge. We'd also booked an appointment with the local newspaper The Westmorland Gazette to tell them our story and maybe get an article published along with the rest of the round up of Rememberance Day news. Never been a model for a newspaper photo before, it kept raining and was quite an interesting experience!!! The article was published the weekend after Remeberance Sunday and generated lots of calls from relatives and ... read more

Hi! As Mum has done her back home update, now it's my turn. Wow..... what an amazing time and the memories will last for ever (if not I have around 900 photos to remind me!!!) Canada is definitely a place I would love to visit again but spending a bit longer in the places I liked most - living out of a suitcase is not ideal (will probably sound quite bizarre to any back packers who read this!!) Hard to pick favourites as each place we went to was very different. I'd like to spend more time in all the places we visited but especially Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver/Victoria. We didn't really have enough time on Vancouver Island to explore but would like to if I ever go back. Oh and I would stay till I ... read more

Hi Everyone. Some of you will know we are now safely home and Lou has unfortunately had to return to work. Di (currently writing) has been able to adjust a little more gently, though the mind is still very much reliving some of the memorable moments we spent across the Atlantic, whilst the body is still functioning on Vancouver time!! The blog was expertly typed up by Lou whilst we were in Canada, as her typing speed is much the superior and her camera provided all the great "stills", whilst Di was the movie expert, and has 6hrs of tape should anyone be interested in being tied down to watch!! However, there are one or two shots from her camera which should be included in this entry, so hope you'll be able to link them up ... read more
