WOw...the heat today was quite brutal...about 46..but with the humidity...way more! I found out that there really isn't much to do in Dubai except eat and shop!...shop ...shop ...and shop! The amount of money in this place kills me...all made from oil...gas is like 60 cents a litre..from what we figured out....a/c is everywhere..the energy consumption here is enough for for all of Canada! They idle their cars, don't recycle, and waste like there is no tmrw! The amount of Gold is alos ludicrous! Muslim law reigns...but not for foreingers...things learned...how hands are chopped off...heads are chopped off..there is really no crime here...sheiks are a dime a dozen and that's because there are so many little kings marrying so many women. Day 3: That night we could hardly sleep in some dormitories (by the way, in Turkey girls and boys don't share the dormitory, they are 2 separate buildings, sometimes in different areas of a city), for 2 hours (personally, I only took a bath and got ready to leave). We had to start our journey to Mount Nemrut at 1.30 am, because of the long distance problem. We arrived there at about 4 am and started to climb about 1 km of rocks, on a blistering cold, a tough wind and mini-darkness. Time seemds to pass so slow and I felt like going around without being up. In the end, at about 4.30 am we were there...sweating, freezing, tired, but full of relief...hehehe....I surely need some exercice. When the sun appeared, the spectacular view opened ... read more

Hey all, sorry for the extreme delay in any posts. I've just been busy a lot in general. Obviously really busy since I'm writing this in Aug 7th. Anyway, this site crashed recently so most of my old stuff was lost. Sorry bout that. Enjoy what I give you though! There'll be lots more to come in future days, and some really great pics. July 4th, 2007, There's a place called Mike's Place in Tel Aviv that is basically a straight up American bar. It's filled with American tourists and everyone speaks English. I don't really like it there too much, but I went there celebrate my independence the best way possible...by getting really drunk. U.S.A.!!!!!! G-d bless America, Marcus Velelis... read more

Yoga! getting used to doing it in the heat, and very well needed as my back is quite messed up from travelling for so long. Today we are going to those insane malls we all hear about..and tyring to get into the 7 star hotel..however, I heard it was 200bucks just to get in to see? Rumour or truth..who knows? This morning we actually called the local hotel to bring us our breakfast..yummy masala dosa! Geo: 39.9439, 32.856Day 2: Still jetlagged. I got the kids to sleep by 11pm, but I didn't nod off until about 3am (That's 8pm at home). Hopefully I'll have that sorted out in a day or two. Josh was up by 8 and we let Kate and Alex sleep until 9. We decided to try the hotel breakfast which had the advantage of being both close and free. There was a huge array of breads, spreads, fruits, vegetables and olives. There were also a couple cereals, veal sausage and boiled eggs. I think the highlight for everyone was the honey served on the comb:We spent some time back at the room writing up our thoughts on yesterday and then went downstairs to ask the best way to get the the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. I know ... read more

Geo: 39.9439, 32.856I'm hoping to get the kids to write a little every day and then I will give them their own blog entries. Mostly, I will be true to the original wording and may even leave in some of the more creative spelling. As Josh likes to quote, "It's a darn poor mind that can only think of one way to spell a word!"Josh: We woke up at about 12:00pm. We all went on a walk and mom bought five simit--they're like bagels. Then bought some drinks. Went to a park. I bought some sunglasses (I haggled with the seller!). We went back to the hotel room, got our hats and went on the metro. When we came out we went to the maesuleom then got dinner (I star in some pictures). There was some ... read more

Orumiyeh - Tabriz - Tehran - Mashhad - Bam - Kerman - Five Finger Mountain - Shiraz 'I wanted to escape, to experience freedom. I left Iran, crossed Turkey & paid a few thousand dollars for a place on a boat, already full of asylum seekers, heading towards Greece. My own passport would get me no further; I disposed of it and bought a fake one from someone else. The journey was treacherous; the boat sailed at night and when we reached land the only way forward was up. Beyond a precarious cliff edge climb was freedom. By the time I reached the top my hands were bloody, I was exhausted. I'd made it; but not everyone else was as lucky as me' Welcome to Iran; a land of contradictions where people are extremely passionate about ... read more

Hey all! I am currently sitting in the computer lab at the New York Institute of Technology. Not in New York though... the "posh" school here in Amman must be a branch... I've yet to figure that out. This uni will be the basis for our presentations here in Amman. Five other University students are scheduled to bring around 50 students each day here. My flight was very good considering how long it was. I met up with three of my friends in Istanbul and we all arrived together in Amman Airport at 2am. Customs was smooth and all my luggage made it safely. Above the customs desks was a large sign announcing the presence of the "Tourist Police" in both Arabic and English. We met up immediatly with Bashar who is our organizer here ... read more
