Wednesday I had planned as my first time in London with nothing SPECIFIC to do, just wandering around with a small bag (no backpacks/laptops weighing me down and banging into people!) and my camera, being a complete tourist. Had a slight hiccough in this in that we’d been talking about the V&A collection, which holds a lot of London Transport’s artwork - and not finding a lot of material about the First World War, decided I needed to visit there (the Victoria and Albert Museum) first for a look. I was thankful to find out that there was not a lot of material onsite (although material held at Olympia could be shipped in with a couple of days notice), but I was given a chance to go behind the scenes to see the HUGE lithographic stones ... read more

Our stay in Denmark was filled with days of castle hopping. Alicia pretty much took charge, as this was her 'country of choice' on our holiday. Alicia, a fan of Crown Princess Mary, wanted to make sure we squeezed in all possible attractions which involved the Crown Princess. This meant dragging Josh to all the Castles, but I think he enjoyed himself more than he leads on. They were all extremely beautiful and impressive as you can see in the photos. We also spent 1 day in Malmo Sweden, where we spent most of the day relaxing in a beautiful park. On our final day in Denmark, Josh took a day for himself to go on a 3 hour walk around Copenhagen to take many lovely photos of objects and scenery that did not invole palaces. ... read more

Just a few quick photos of the latest trip down to Cornwall. We stayed with Chris's relatives and relished the chance to get away for a bit. After weeks of beautiful weather in London, it all went pear-shaped on the second day with rain and wind! Visited a few neighbouring villages and did a road trip around the North Coast of Cornwall. Great pub lunches and a few too many servings of good ol clotted cream!! Won't write too much as we'll be back Cornwall in a less than a week. More photos then, but no more English wild flowers I promise!... read more

I always knew I had it in me, and have had plenty of oppurtunity to practise on our travels (Hyde Park, Mirabell Gardens, Schonnbrunn Palace...), but in Budapest I have perfected the art of sitting and watching the world go by. Often I have a book with me, other times, its just my I-pod, but there is never a shortage of people to watch. I sat in a Square, and some Budapestian locals, maybe on their lunch break, dressed in dark suits (one crushed velvet!), sunnies on, ties slung over their shoulders stroll into the square with half a dozen long necks (obviously containing Hungary's finest) and two big bags of chips. They flip the top off their bottles and perform a strange 'cheersing' ceremony, the bottles are clinked multiple times from top to bottom, slowly ... read more

I made a trip to Regensburg to visit Ruusa and Hannu May 4-7. I travelled by train and it took in total 4,5 hours (delays included) to get from Darmstadt to Regensburg. The trip from Frankfurt to Regensburg takes 3 hours by IC train. We had an easy and relaxed weekend in Regensburg. Went shopping (of course!!) and did some touring in the city, ate well and drank enough in restaurants. Surely a great place to visit in Bayern!!! Beer lovers - go there! :) ... read more

UntitledAndrea Still in Budapest. Wandered the city with Kobi, Bec and Emma. Got lost in Pest ended up in Buda. Ate so much it was almost like Italy all over again. Went to the Buda Castle Labyrinth and got ourselves lost. It was interesting. Walking around in these tunnels built years and years ago originally for shelters and such. There was a calender of sorts down there. A room where wine ran into these mazzive bowls, strange statues and paintings on the walls. Just a strange place in general. Very dark, half the time you didn't know which way to go and turned back because you just ran into a dead end. One room was completely dark - you just held onto the rope rail and walked around hoping you didn't fall into some vast abyss. ... read more

TOURS to LA ROCHELLE - 4th May 2007 (Friday 20º Sunny in Tours and Sunny and 27º in La Rochelle) Arrive late for breakfast and it is a terrible mistake. There had been a tour bus or two staying in the Hotel overnight and they had hit the breakfast room before we did. The devastation is locust like and complete. There were empty little butter containers strewn hither and tither. The coffee pot was empty and the croissant basket was bare. Seats had been pushed back as though someone had yelled 'abandon ship' whereas I guess it was probably just the bus driver who had said “nous allons” (we go). Pay up at the Best Western and fire up the Ford Focus Ferrari. Deb guides us unerringly through Chatellerault, Poiters, Noitre and into La Rochelle. It ... read more

Europe » Croatia » Dalmatia » Zadar May 4th 2007

My town! By every meaning. Zadar is an old, old town, dating waaaay back in past. There's proof of stone age cultures living in this area, and it's got the name from an ancient Mediterranean people living here: Jadera - Zadar. In 8th century b.c. it was inhabitated by Ilirian tribes, in 7th and 6th century b.c. it was already important center of Liburns, great sailors, to whom Zadar was a harbour and starting point of many journeys, specially with Greek colonies. Throughout the centuries it was a site to many battles, from Romans, through Bizantium to Venets, and then to Austro-Hungarians, Italians, Germans, and the latest - ourselves (ex. Yugoslavia war). As far as art is considered, the main characteristic of this area is romanesque art, but signs of time b.c. are still visible, ... read more
