So this morning I woke up to a wonderful sun shining away and it felt like a typical Santa Cruz sunny morning. It was awesome! Add the leaves falling gracefully from the trees in multitudes of fall colours and you've completed the picture. I love that all the trees here change colors. You can actually see a change in the seasons as opposed to simply feeling the change in the temperature. In all the gross sickness and therefore laps in memory this week, I completely forgot to mention my field trip around Nottingham city. On Thursday morning I woke up really early (I had to be at the bus stop at 8:15am to catch the bus!) and headed to the city centre with Amy. We were on our way to the meeting point for our 9am ... read more

It's finally Friday!!! Yippeee. I'd probably be much more excited if I wasn't still trying to get rid of my cold. Although if it goes away by Monday (aka Halloween) then I'll be a very happy camper. :) On the off chance that it decides to stick around, I'll not be a very happy person to be around...maybe that could be my costume, a grouch. Grouches: Oscar or the Grinch?? or Scrooge?? Hmmm...I'll have to think about all those and decide later. Seminar this morning was educational. It was kinda weird. I'm not used to going to section and discussing a topic that has not been covered in lecture yet. It was kinda strange but I did a little bit of reading for it. However, today was basically a whole other lecture. My coughing got the ... read more

Okay so nothing exciting has been happening over the past couple days. The only news is that my cold has gotten worse and I hope that's a sign that I'll start to get better...SOON! I hate being sick. Other than that life has continued as normal. After skipping practice on Wed, I decided that I would try and go to practice today. It's indoors instead of outside so I'd be better off and wouldn't necessarily worsen my condition. Thus I decided that I'd try to do as much as possible at practice, which turned out to be a lot more than I thought. Partially because I was felling better and partially because we had low numbers. It was a really good practice. Then we headed over to Sherwood Bar to hang out. That was pretty fun ... read more

So today was really windy which was kinda cool. Except the wind was fairly matched by some pouring rain. The weather is kinda strange. It will be pouring rain for an hour or two and then stop and be really windy then go back to rain and so on and so forth. Anyways, I went to class and learned a bit more cultural history on the Soviet Union which was pretty interesting. After class I headed to the library for a bit and then back to Broadgate for some grub. Yay for mashed potatoes! Then I kinda messed about with my presentation info and then had to go back to campus for 3pm to meet with our lecturer about our plan of action for the lecture we're to give in a week. She okay'd it all ... read more

After a pretty late night I headed out early to catch a lift to Nott'm Trent Uni for day 2 of Damme Heere Slamme Fayre ultimate tourney. Our first game was Fling 1 v. Fling 2 to see who would go to the Middle Eight finals or the Bottom Four. Fling 2 beat Fling 1 something like 10-2 which was pretty bad. It was a really good game though. So Fling 2 moved into the Middle Eight and Fling 1 went to the Bottom Four to fight it out for the spoon. Tristan showed up for the second game of the day and was a really big help, especially since Metal Dave was out with an injured shoulder. The whole day was pretty good, kinda mellow. We won a couple and lost a few, but we ... read more

So today was my first indoor ultimate tourney, day 1. It was awesome!! Our team (Fling 2) played really really well. And of course it was loads of fun. We played about 6 games today. Each game was 17 minutes long, which is really short for ultimate but that's how indoors works. I actually really like it because you have more playing time and you play harder because you have a short amount of time to get anything done, much less a great amount of space. We did however have a few accidents and injuries today. Not so splendid but we'll deal. Nimble went for a disc in the endzone and ended up hitting the wall with his knee and then falling severly spraining his ankle, it turns out. However he should be well enough for ... read more

So it's Friday and I don't have class today. Yay! That's usually a sign that I need to go out of town. However, this weekend I will be participating in my first indoor ultimate tourney. It should be really really fun and interesting. I'm hoping to learn lots. Being that I don't have class I had planned on exploring Nott'm a little bit, but my plans were waylaid for several reasons. Mainly because I couldn't find a travel-around-town buddy which is essential and because it started to rain pretty good and exploring outdoor things in the rain is a sure way to getting yourself horribly wet and sick. Not good...thus my exploration of Nott'm has been put temporarily on hold. Instead I tried (somewhat in vain) to finish my part of the lecture presentation that I'm ... read more

Quote to ponder: 'I'm tired of chasing my dreams. I'm just gonna ask where they are going, and hook up with them later.'--quote from Tristan Today is just craziness and coming off of Wednesday night 9am classes are the absolute worst. However, today's student lecture was really really good which is kinda scary but I have a long time to work on it, so that's a plus. After lecture I went to the student union to get some more paper, too much notetaking here!, and then headed to the library. I had to read a bit more about Saint's Cults before I met up with my group to discuss how we were going to give an entire lecture on the topic. It seems that I had not been reading the 'right' material and the direction to ... read more

What to say about Wednesday..... I had a non-US foreign policy class this morning which was nice. Today's contemporary lecture was on communist world systems starting with the Soviet Union, of course. It was a really interesting lecture, more cultural history than data or political/social history--I think I fit in the cultural history framework better than the political, although social isn't too bad. Lecture was the only real thing that occurred in the morning. After lecture I went home to eat lunch, quickly, before frisbee practice at 2pm. Practice today was good although there are some people who continue to come out, which is really awesome, except that they still haven't grasped how to throw a disc correctly and arrive at practice in jeans and a jumper. It's a bit insane and at some point I ... read more

Tuesday brings a late class about Anglo-Saxon England which was quite interesting but a boring topic to relate at the moment. However, I do have a presentation for that class coming up really soon!!! After class I didn't do much which usually means that I attempted homework but most likely became sidetracked. That night though, I tagged along to a U21 international social with Leslie, Judy and Taylor. I knew a large group of who was there which was pretty cool. The social mainly consisted of Australians and Canadians or those that were headed to or just returned from Australia and Canada. It was pretty interesting. After the social we went to The Ark for more socializing but were pretty tired so we went home pretty quick. The highlight though was watching those that got a ... read more
