So in lieu of studying for my last remaining final, I have decided to catch everyone up on just what has transpired since the beginning of finals week. My first two finals went fine, I hope, although they were quite hard and people here write an extraordinary amount in a short period of time. By this I mean that the test booklets are on A4 paper, with about 6-8 sheets per booklet. People would actually ask for another booklet, so they were definitely writing essays.....research essays that they amazingly remembered. I was quite impressed but also quite annoyed, as I always am when people need to use extra booklets. It just doesn't seem necessary sometimes, plus they were killing more trees. ...is dangerous for my health (at least too much studying is). For the past week I have been studying for final exams and let me tell you they like to drag out the pain for as long as possible around here. Because not only do you have to come back from Christmas vacation not in the mood to study, but you're jetlagged, it's gloomy and raining, and each essay that you write for your ONE exam must be researched as if you were going to write a 12 page paper on the subject. However, it doesn't stop there....you must actually visit the library and attempt to sort through thousands of books. If you are lucky enough to find the books that you are looking for on the shelf jump for joy because re-shelving is an absolute ... read more

I have finally arrived back in Nottingham and have been attempting to study for finals, hating every minute of it. I usually don't mind studying for finals but that could be because they generally take place BEFORE vacation--not so in England. It took me awhile to make my way back from the States into Nottingham and my home away from home. Actually, it took a 10 hour plane ride from LAX to Heathrow, about 20 minutes to get through customs and grab my luggage, and then a looong walk to the tube from Heathrow. The tube took a couple hours (maybe less but I didn't time it well) from Heathrow to St Pancras/King's Cross, where I proceeded to the train station. I waited around the train station for about an hour before my train left for ... read more

Ahh the xmas social....so to start. 2 long tables, winter vegetable soup, a full turkey dinner, crumble desert and so much more! Jeffro sang a few songs (one absolutely hilarious one), we all got secret santa gifts (oh yes back to when I was 9 with the super soaker!), and then craziness ensued. Ange had an interesting and plagiarized speech from Nimble and everyone drank a lot of wine. The jelly contest: 5 teams of 5-6 had to eat an entire frisbee worth of jelly, with your face and the fastest time wins! My team: Tank (ie Tristan), Bryn, Rod, Dan, and a forgotten fifth (sorry!) We did pretty good, coming in second I think. It wasn't too bad and was actually a lot of fun. A lot of people that haven't been around in a ... read more

Today I had the worst lecture ever given , particularly on the topic of the Holocaust. The lecturer was really dry and seemed too emotionally attached to be able to detach herself and look at the material as a historian. Plus she kept making really broad claims that she said we could dispute with her but I'm sure half the class had noo idea what she was talking about. I did simply because I had taken a class or two on the Holocaust in depth last year, but in talking to other students about it they also completely missed what was going on and what she was actually getting at. She also refused to cover the topic of genocide. I mean the lecture was suppposed to be on how the Holocaust has shaped the post-war world ... read more

'Look how many HobNobs are left. I have a problem.' -Taylor, who ate practically the entire package of HobNobs nearly in 2 hours....and then she eats another one. Ha! And then of course we proceeded to eat our lovely Ben and Jerry's ice cream, a real treat let me tell you! It was fabulous fun. ... read more

So today while studying amidst a very noisy group of people eating at Upper Crust, Taylor told me to look out the window.....because it was snowing!!! It was soo cool. And then later, as I spent many hours in the library toda, it began to snow even harder, enough to stick to people's clothing and to the ground, for just a bit, before it melted. Even so it was really cool and it looked all blizzardy and wintry outside as well. I did notice the 10 degree drop in the temperature from when I walked to class at 9:30am to when I left the library for lunch at 1:30pm and again later on. So basically that's the news for the day!!! Yay for snow and takeaway....the laziness in me is coming out now. Hehe. :)... read more

I played in yet another amazing frisbee tourney, indoors again but women only this time. Flyght Club and Mushiono hosted which was nice since it was at Trent Nott'm, Clifton Campus again only 10 minutes away. Yay for no communal showers and your own bed! :) It was quite interesting, although I think I agree with Ange that it's much more fun to play mixed. However, this weekend was really good. We were seeded 3rd which was really cool and we hoped to win the whole tourney. However, we couldn't quite get our heads into some of the games, which was frustrating, but we did okay as is. We did drop pretty far down though. But we saw this weekend as a practice really for regionals and then nationals (women's that is). Saturday night we all ... read more

Today is Thanksgiving, and of course it was lucky that I'm on reading week. However, since Thanksgiving is not a national holiday here, it's going to be quite fun to celebrate it with my fellow North Americans (Taylor, Judy, and Leslie). Potluck is the order of the day with a fabulous menu as well. Our thanksgiving dinner will have cranberry chicken with mashed potatoes, cooked carrots, and a lovely green bean casserole. We will also be devouring cheese puffs and ending it all off with some cranberry ice cream. And of course a great big group hug and lots of pics! :) I'm really excited about it and plus my parents are about 500 miles closer to me, hehe, on the east coast of the states. Plus Thanksgiving marks the beginning of crunch time for essays ... read more
