23rd Nov After leaving Carlisle I then headed to Yorkshire to drop off Anna (one of the road crew) then proceeded to York to look around. Since there was not much time left I only entered York Minster. The cathedral was pretty amazing inside; I was a bit shocked to see how much was inside. There were head stones from graves and plagues, coffins and many alters. The place had more packed into it than I had ever imagined. After leaving York the next destination was agreed to be Nottingham, I had a feeling it could be interesting visiting the famous Sherwood forest. The town of Nottingham was fairly small and quiet in respect, however it was pretty clean and friendly I felt. Accommodation was very basic and the hostel was being renovated which meant there ... read more

Hi again, Ok, so I said I would keep the last one short, and I kind of lied. Not on purpose, but there it is. So I'm not making any promises this time. Up to Thursday 9th. Didn't really do anything on friday either, spent basically the whole day inside, but I did go to the post office, and bought 3 boxes, packed up the stuff to post home, but then couldn't carry it to the post office to post it, so ended up taking it the next day. Saturday. Went to the postoffice. The staff there thought I was crazy. 3 boxes (all more than 5kg each) and a poster tube to send. But it all left, and I just found out it arrived safely at home. Then went to Portabello Road (yes, again), but ... read more

Hello everybody, Well i'm nearing the departure day and i'm still getting the little little people inside of my head raising their flags of doubt, some saying "what are you running away from" and some asking " was there anything more i could have done". When i was younger i really didn't understand why you had to go away to find yourself but now with those halcyon days behind me i see why! it's so that you can remove yourself from surroundings of familiar friends/places and buidings that you only serve as a reminder of the past,i'm hoping this extended vacation helps. Now with the happy bits, the flights are booked and the first few nights accomadation in kuta are also booked, according to the guide books the best words to describe Kuta are "it's a bit ... read more

Well, we've both spent the last two weekends catching up with friends (thanks everyone!) and we've got just one day left at work! Its going to be strange not having to work for three months but somehow I think we'll cope just fine! We then have Thursday and Friday to do those "last minute" jobs, pack our rucksacks, and to see the family before we head off. Itinerary We'll depart from Chesterfield, England, in the morning of Saturday 4th November 2006, taking a coach to Heathrow airport in London. From there we'll have to endure a 27hr flight to Aukland, including a 3 hour stop over in Los Angeles. This is one heck of first leg and we'll be glad when we finally touch down safely in New Zealand! New Zealand - We'll be landing in ... read more

Test packing our rucksacks to see if we can fit that extra pair of welly warmers or duds and socks. No Donna...the rucksacks dont have to be 'even'!! Our backs are aching at just the thought of carrying these things. Other backpackers we spoke to say halve whatever you plan on taking and then halve it again....I dont think so! This is the 21st century after all...What would Buck Rogers say??? Packing up the house is one of the worst bits so far...We are convinced that career gappers have a much more difficult time of it than other gappers. We have a list as long as your arm of things to take care of before we go (most are to do with the blooming house)! Both of us are experiencing waves of panic and that bloody ... read more

The land of Robin Hood. I travelled to Nottingham to umpire a match between the Nottingham Scorpions and the Reading Roos. Both teams play in the British Australian Rules Football League (BARFL). Train travel is very expensive in the UK and it cost me £45 to get from London to Nottingham! They really encourage British people to see their own country.... read more

Exams have ceased to rule my life now!! So excited. However, it is also a sad day because people have already started to leave. :( Deborah and Cynthia left last week for Italy (I so totally wanted to go with them but my stubborn lecturer wouldn't let me write an essay rather than sitting the exam). They seem to have had an interesting time sleeping in airports and such because the hostel had overbooked. I won't have that problem, hopefully, when I get to Italy in 2 DAYS TIME!! It's T-38 hrs for me to be in Roma, Italia. I have very high hopes for this trip to be an amazing adventure. I'm taking a Contiki tour of Italy for 10 days. I am going on the tour by myself but seriously plan on making a ... read more
