So, last night I went to Ocean for Funked Up @Ocean which was really fun. I met up with a bunch of friends (ie John, Ruth, Steph, Kiera, and Becky) and I met a few new freshers at the bar before hand. It was really really fun. They had a live band and a pretty good DJ playing. The band was "Invaders from Planet Funk" and they mostly covered other songs but they were really good for what they did, I thought. It was thus a very late night but that's ok because I slept in until about 11:30am which I'm sure Erin and Erika are proud of because they were notorious for that on the weekend, hehe. Then this morning I worked on further figuring out what modules (classes) I was going to take which ... read more

So this morning I walked over to Freshers' Fayre at the Sports Centre. It was set up in a huge marquee....they easily fit 300 stalls in it!! So I explored and walked up and down all the aisles. Let me tell you, it is the hot spot for free stuff. They hand out free stuff left and right whether you need it or not. I walked away with about 4 bags full of stuff. There are over 300 clubs and societies and when they told me that I was wowed, but once you actually see that they truly exist it's insane! and completely overwhelming. I was bombarded left and right by people trying to get me to join. Our OPERS fair is nothing compared to Freshers' Fayre. And on top of that it goes until Wednesday. ... read more

So today I went grocery shopping and finally got some food. Yes! And I got hangers for a few of my clothes, etc. Beeston's about a 10-15 min walk from here which isn't bad except when it rains and you have lots of heavy bags to carry back...which was our problem on the way back. Emily was nice enough to let me go with her and her friends, Becks and Sweyun (I probably totally butchered her name). Now I have a better idea of what the shopping area and things are going to entail. I think next time I'm going to take my backpack on wheels (yes I know it's dorky, but it'll save my back). After that I went to the Freshers' Address, which is basically hearing about the university and what's available to do ... read more

So today I moved myself into my fairly large room. For those of you at UCSC, it's about as big as a double in the dorms. I really like it though because it's the corner room and it has 2 windows with lots of greenery around. The window latches are pretty strange but they work well especially since I can't figure out how to turn both radiators off. I had to stand in a fairly long line to try and sort out my housing in the morning so that I could collect my keys....until Mom came to the rescue and called fixing the mixup. So I got pulled out of line and given my keys!!! Yes! The rest of the day was pretty much spent unpacking. Then I went to the pub for a meet and ... read more

I have gotten up way too early today so that I could shower off last night’s fun. The club was awesome and it’s HUGE. There had to have been about 300-400 people there last night dancing the night away. They played really good music—a lot of mixes from the USA and some European stuff. In total I had a blast, apart from the inhalation of smoke from both cigarettes and machines. I had to have fun to partially lose my hearing because the music was so loud. (Kris you would have had a fabulous time and I doubt you would have lost your hearing.) It was well worth the 5 Quid (pounds) and they handed out cards to go back any Friday or Saturday night for FREE with 3 friends!! It truly is a different university ... read more

Today we got up again and were fed a pretty boring meal. It seems like breakfast is going to be horrible here, so it’s a good thing that I’m feeding myself. At least today we had some porridge or oatmeal which wasn’t too bad. However, if you are one of those people that don’t like breakfast, you’d probably do just fine in England because the fare is pretty bad. After breakfast I headed over to try and get on the internet. I got there a quarter till when it would open and waited in a huge queue until half past when it was to have been opened because nobody was there to give us the login codes. One guy hacked into it and checked his email then left. He refused to tell anyone around him how ... read more

Today they fed us breakfast which wasn’t the greatest, especially since no fruit was available. We then did a whole lot. First we took a very incomplete and hard to understand/hear tour of Nottingham University Campus. It was somewhat informative if you were able to hear what the tour guides were saying. Then since we were on our own for lunch, a group of us (4 Americans, 2 Aussies, 1 Venezuelan and a Mexican) headed to the bus stop to catch a ride into the city centre. We then split up a bit and ate lunch, explored the city a bit, the shopping center called Broadmarsh, and checked out phones. I have to get a new phone it looks like because mine is not compatible with SIM cards. Then as we wandered back towards the bus ... read more

This was our first family holiday together Thomas was still a tiny little baba but had loads of confidence. We stayed in a 2 bedroom comfort villa at SHerwood Forest Nottingham. The villa was a good size and had an excellent log fire and was right in the middle of the forest, all around us was surrounded by nature, we sat for hours watching the wildlife pass our patio area, we seen squirells, pigeonns, grouse, pheasant and more squirellls in fact hundreds of them. We spent most of our time in the pool area, and Thomas enjoyed his first swimming expeirrence at the Baby Dolphins event, ive never seen so many floating babies in my life. We eat like kings while we were away and Center Parcs eatieries are spot on, not one bad meal the ... read more
