Emma had a need to get her new passport quickly, so decided to take the Thursday off work and go into Liverpool to get this. Having pre-booked an appointment she headed off early, and I had a more lazy get-up - found the train station by myself all right, and enjoyed chilling out on the train, enjoying the view… vaguely noticing what at first site appeared to be a Portaloo, then I realised was Dr Who’s telephone box as I headed for Manchester Oxford Road for change of trains! There’s so much work going on in Liverpool I got slightly confused as to where I was, but then got my bearings and headed off to meet Emma - unfortunately we’d marked different places to meet on our maps, but after that slight hiccup (hurray for mobile ... read more

Hey everyone (anyone?!) Doubt anyone will read this but it will be good for me to keep it updated with all the new things I'm finding out as I go along, researching and eventually planning this whole exciting journey. So, the other night (March 29th), I was chatting to some guy about road trips. He was planning driving north-south, east-west through Iran, and I was saying how brilliant an idea that was. It kind of got me thinking; do I want to travel? The answer to that was a definite yes. So I thought, where to? Europe? Well I live in England, its not exactly a life affirming thing to travel an hour on a plane into the middle of France, and come back again a week, a tan and a cultureless holiday later. Australia? Not ... read more

Hi everyone! I'm simultaneously having a lovely time & missing you tremendously! This past week has been busy busy busy. My friend Felipe's birthday was last weekend, he had a party at his flat down the road. He's an exchange student from Brazil, therefore most of the students at the party were also exchange students from all over the world...resulting in lots multilingual conversations throughout the flat all at once, it was a bit surreal. Almost like how Mamella's house was when everyone in the family went there and a million conversations were being yelled in Italian all at once, except here it was Spanish, German, Portuguese, etc. My classes have been so interesting, for the most part. Especially 'Enduring Realism' because many of the novels we're reading are written by authors I've never read but ... read more

Hiya guys, Well the last week or so has seen some more preperation for the big trip - Insurance matters to be dealth with, as well as some running repairs to Sheryl the van. We managed a quick day trip to the local Town/small city/village/settlement of Chester, South-West of Manchester near the Welsh Border. Chester has the reputation of being a standout shopping centre; but it also has lots of old Tudor buildings, a large Cathederal and a Roman wall surrounding the township. All of this you might say, makes up the recipe for a quiet day out with nice strolling along the wall, stopping to look at the cathederal and the old black and white shops (see photo's below) And it was, for the most part. But we also saw the other side of chester; ... read more

After leaving Egypt I arrived in Liverpool to visit my Aunties, Uncles and Cousins, and to be greeted by SNOW! I was so cold! I only had one jumper and two pairs of pants! I was only in Liverpool for 2 days as a quick stop over before I hit South America! Due to this there I didn´t visit Tourist attractions as I have seen most of them before and wanted to spend time with "The Fam", plus it was my 7th visit! Thankyou to my loving family for their continuous warmth, hospitallity and insanity! Love you all!... read more

So, mini-backpacking trip set to start at 8am in London heading to Liverpool. That didn't happen though. As usual, disorganised me left the tickets to be print out in the last minute, but just so happened that the printer was outta black ink and wouldn't print the bar code!! So I thought to myself..."well, it's London, I'll just go to the station a bit earlier and find a net cafe where I can print it". Yeah...not really. As I was leaving the house, I have no idea what happened, but the alarm wasn't working and I had to turn it on cause I was gonna be away for 10 days...and it's London! But anyways...I did something and still wasn't sure if it was on, but left anyway...to find out the tube wasn't working properly (nothing ... read more

4 short but busy days in the UK before we set off for Bangkok tomorrow. We had a fantastic flight from Philadelphia to London in... Business Class (free upgrade)! We've decided it's the only way to go from now on, so we will need to find some way to win the lottery. We spent the day in London on Friday and the rest of the weekend with Richard's family in Meols. As you can see, Sharon was really enjoying the beautiful English weather. For our next entry hoping to trade in the Gortex for some shorts and sunscreen! See you on the other side! ... read more
