today is my last morning at the keenen property. it has been an interesting few weeks on the wirral coast. learned to drive a JCB, huge yellow tractor, that pants = underwear, its better to say 'trousers', french people are addicted to nutella, and that english weather is the most unpredictable thing ever. most importantly, made a few good friends. the days have begun to blur a bit. i feel like i have finally settled in, here but also as a traveler. home feels removed, so i feel like i can be more present in the moment. update - (I am now in girona, spain) the last days of england: Said my good byes and the espanola chicas, perdona, catalanas, and i went to manchester to try out another city. the city is actually very cool. ... read more

hello! emma & isab here, writing from our couchsurfing hosts awesome apartment in central liverpool. since last writing, we stayed in seaford college for 3 nights before being politely asked to leave...haha we were scaring the little boys on summer school! from there we headed east to bristol, alex tagged along because he just cant bear to be away from us. we stayed in the bristol backpackers for 2 nights, which was pretty cool, big, friendly, nice kitchen, lots of comfy tv watching space. first night we all collapsed. next day we did a day trip out to bath, we skipped seeing the actual baths but got the gist of the area...very pretty cathedral, lots of stone, had terrible tea in what we were hoping was an authentic traditional tea house (tea bags! sif!), sampled much ... read more

As a sort of disclaimer to my mates, this entry is in no way me 'avin' a laugh. My continued fascination with the skilled and widely varying ways in which the Brits wield the English language stems from sincere admiration, and, at times, downright awe. I would love to be able to one day take the lift up to my flat, but, regrettably, I understand that it will always be an elevator that delivers me to my apartment. I assure you that someone who calls sleeping policemen "speed bumps" with a bland Upstate New York accent is in no position to ever take the piss. That said, as best as I can, I will continue here with terminology that seems appropriate for detailing the events of the past week. I crossed İstanbul from İstinye to the ... read more

Kath and I spent the weekend in Liverpool. Unfortunately we missed the last train from London that went direct to Liverpool so we had to catch a train then a bus then another train and it took almost 5 hours! When we arrived we trooped around Liverpool trying to find our accomodation, it took a while but we got there eventually. We dumped our stuff and then headed down to the meeting point for the Magical Mystery Tour - the Beatles Tour. It was pretty cool. It went for 2 hours and we saw the childhood homes of all 4 Beatles, this was a little bit strange though because a couple of them are owned by ordinary people now, and so everyday that get bus loads of people coming to stare at their houses. Kath and ... read more

This morning when we got up, we discussed our game plan. We can't check into the bed and breakfast until 2, and trains leave for Brighton every half hour. We are planning on going to go see Big Ben, St. Paul's, and Buckingham Palace before we leave for Brighton. Before Hyde Park, we went to St. Paul's Cathedral. We were going to go inside St. Paul's, but it cost 10 pounds, and we could see pretty much the whole cathedral from where we were standing, so we didn't spend the ten pounds. The second thing we saw in London was Hyde Park, as Kyle wanted to see the Princess Diana memorial. It was a lot farther away then we had thought. We probably walked around the whole park before we found it. Sarah didn't want to ... read more
