This weekend is a long weekend in the UK, or what they refer to here as a Bank Holiday weekend. No, no, everyone gets a holiday- not just the banks. So it seemed like the perfect opportunity to get out and about. But, like any good Bank Holiday weekend (as we’ve been told) the weather is a write off except for a small window of opportunity on Saturday morning. Not to let a little bad weather spoil the whole weekend (a little rain never hurt anyone- right?) we got up bright and early on Saturday morning and caught the train to Lincoln! We headed straight up the super steep cobblestone road to the top of the hill, only stopping once to get heckled by a pikie (think Brad Pitt in Snatch) passing us on his ... read more

Hello Mates! Well it has seemed like a long journey and we are only 8 weeks into it! Hopefully all the technical stuff is over and we can really begin to enjoy England and Europe. Our house is feeling more like a home everyday. We finally have high speed internet so that gives me more to do during the day. I thought I would write a blog to tell you a bit of what goes on around here. We live in the village of Scotter. We love Scotter! It has 3 pubs and Chinese take out, what more can you ask for?! We have gotten into a routine of going to our favorite pub, The Gamekeeper, every Friday. We have met some people there and they really like our "accents." Funny, I never knew I ... read more

Scotter to LincolnStacey Morford One of Koi's bosses came to visit the jobsite. While here he wanted to go "see something cool." So it was back to Linconln Cathedral. We hadn't seen the whole inside yet and the town is easy/fast to get to. So off we went. When we first arrived there was still church service going on so we went and ate lunch and walked around in the rain. There was a bike race going through town so there were lots of people to watch. Not much else happened. It took a while to see the cathedral and take pictures. I will let the pictures do the talking. Sorry if some of them are blurry. I'm still trying to figure out how to take clear photos indoors. We were able to see part of ... read more

Hello All~ I have been getting tons of messages asking about more blogs. So here's the deal---we have moved into a house. We have been in the house for over 2 weeks and still don't have internet. Koi was able to download a wireless program to his computer but that means I can only use it when he's home from work. Also, it is very, very, very slow. Therefore, I can't download photos(there's also security things that won't allow it on his computer) and it is difficult to email b/c the service is so slow. I would love to go somewhere to use the internet but no one here has it! We are currently, finally, getting a landline connected today so we will be receiving our equipment for the internet sometime in the next 2 weeks. ... read more

Hey guys, By the time you read this we should be enjoying our final nights kip before flying for 19 hours (with a quick stopover in Schipol for breakfast and a beer :)) into Lima, capital city of Peru. A quick confession from under the excited exterior: I'm pushing my comfort zone totally. We haven't really planned much and as I've never travelled before its a) hard to let go of the 'it's-the-end-of-the-world-if-I'm-late-and-miss-the-bus' kind of mentality, which is daft as I already know another one will come along in a few hours, or days. B) I'm a worrier by nature so this is one giant leap of faith and trust. C) (stands for cliché) This will change my life. The planning we have done goes vaguely as follows: We'll spend a couple of days in Lima ... read more

Hello All~ We took a small tour of the countryside on Saturday. Sadly it is very similar to Kansas (but much greener) so it wasn't as interesting as I had hoped. We did see Koi's jobsite from a distance--its in a "dodgey" area--glad we're not living in Immingham! We will have to venture farther away to see better landscaping. However, it was very exciting to see all the different architecture and old buildings. We visited our first Cathedral. It is in the city of Lincoln, about 30 minutes from where we are staying. The cathedral is appropriately named, Lincoln Cathedral. You never really realize how old, old is, until you see it. It was an amazing site. So beautiful and so huge! It is tucked away in the centre of Lincoln. There are little streets ... read more

Hello Friends & Family~ Welcome to my blog--We have made it to England! We are sitting at the Forest Pines Hotel in Broughton, North Lincolnshire. To be blunt the hotel is a maze(we're in the middle) and the staff is unfriendly--we really don't like it here. We are ready to find a residence! Not much has happened in the last 48hours since we've arrived. Jet lag is catching up to us. We've tested out the roads--wrong side of car/road & different road signs--and and we've looked for homes. We've looked at some dumps and have more to see tomorrow. Looks like we might be living with the couple we flew in with just so we can have a house that's similar to our standard of living. We have been searching so far in the Scunthorpe ... read more
