This weekend was a bit more low key than last. We had a Field Trip for British Studies and I participated in a Day Trip thru the school. For our Field Trip we went to Lincoln and visited the cathedral, castle, and awesome shopping. It was beautiful and we were on tours all the time, since it was a mandatory field trip and all, so we didn't get to do much by ourselve. The cathedral was gorgeous and it reminded me of Lord Farquard's castle on Shrek. I couldn't get past that thought all day long. It was a long day. However, the highlight was when we were shown the chapter room at the cathedral. The chapter room was famous because Richard the some-number (I can't keep them all straight) named who his successor would be ... read more

This is my first entry in our blog so please bear with me for the time being. I wanted to get this blog going in plenty of time ahead of our trip so I can share our thoughts on the trip and then we can look back in a couple of years and see how things changed and panned out. Currently, we are in the planning stage. Our house is on the market (if anyone is interested in buying a beautiful house in a beautiful village in Lincolnshire then we are open to offers :-) What this means is that we currently don't know when our trip will start but what we do know is that we can't go until March (mortgage tie ins etc etc). As soon as the house is sold though we will ... read more

Yesterday was a really nice day. Caught up with my 1st boss with ALSTOM/Siemens. Looked back on the last 4 years. However, I am sure we will still keep in touch. I got the "Gandhi" autobiograpghy from him as a leaving present with a few choice words in it which was very "sweet" and considerate. Although he will hate for saying that. So cycling tonight. Although because the light is bad I hope only the short route!!!!!!... read more

Well time is ticking away. Went swimming last night in the hope that my general fitness would improve, but I have severe doubts about that!!!! However, 20 laps later felt much better that I actually got my butt off the sofa and went. Today is a day of rest, don't want to over due it now - do I!!!!!!! Most of the people who know me will laugh about how quickly I find excuses not to exercise and when I do I moan and winge a lot. But I hope you all are impressed that even at this late stage that I am making an attempt. Tomorrow is cycling. Although, I am trying to convinvce my cycling buddie, Dave to do the short route, but he always manages to trick me into doing the long route!!!!!!! ... read more

Clear blue sky at 530AM. Showered / breakfasted and packed up tent by 715AM - by which time the sky had clouded over. Set off towards north east Lincs - found some interesting landscapes to photo also found Thornton Abbey - little remains other than the magnificent thirteenth century gatehouse. Returned across the county to study the northern part of the Vale of Lincoln. Unfortunately by midday the showers had merged into continuous rain creating a depressing scene. Took some photos of the Trent that marks the boundary with Notts and then headed north into Yorkshire (northern England ??) and made for the camp site into which I had booked in Sherriff Hutton a few miles north of York. Much of the site resembled Glastonbury in the rain (rock festivals in the mud in case you ... read more

Woken by heavy rain but my breakfast (6am) the sky had cleared. Set off towards Skegness with various landscape shots on the way. Saw some deer which I captured on camera and yet another barn owl which unfortunately was a little too far away. Visited the ruins of the once powerful Bolingbroke Castle - where I also found a brightly coloured snail that I have yet to identify. Drove along a minor road which was underwater - testament to the amount of rain in recent days. Found the nature reserve at Gibraltar Point to the south of Skegness and then made my way around the town itself. By this town the showers had really set in. Moved on to Cleethorpes but by that time the rain was continuous so retreated to the camp site where there ... read more

A relatively relaxing day - and only one shower until the evening. Drove west towards Sleaford (small market tow) taking photos of the landscape. Very agricultural … little of real interest although not unattractive. First place of interest was Cogglesford Watermill on the outskirts of Seaford. Convenient and free car park adjacent to the mill allowed a short walk in both directions alongside the small stream. Continued on my way until I found Belton House dating from the late seventeenth century and considered to be one of the finest Restoration estates in the country. £8 entry to the house of gardens - no charge to me as a National Trust member. Wandered around the attractive woods and took photos of the house. Continued my travels in the afternoon nothing of significance. Spent some minutes searching for ... read more
