Well the days are passing so fast just now its crazy, so i finished work on the 23.11.07 and a few drinks with work colleagues in the local pub and a leaving card and £25 from work colleagues which was nice:), then drinks with some friends that night and then went for a coffee with my friend Sal at the Trafford center on the Saturday (24.11.07), nice coffee and Trafford center on a Saturday leading up to Christmas was possibly a bad idea, but we had a good chat and the time flew by. Before i knew it Friday and Saturday had a flew by and i was a jobless bum.....hehe. So Sunday morning arrived and well i had been packed for weeks apart from a few bits i needed for work and round the house ... read more

Well, I have left Carol snoring in bed to do the blog - partly because I have been told that it is early in the morning when the creative side of the brain works best, partly cos I was getting a headache from the noise. However what comes next is absolutely true. We have been getting the house ready to move (welcome to Ian and Maureen who are renting from us) and as part of that I have been going around tidying and emptying. There are lots of pennies and tuppences which I have been picking up to take to the bank (apologies for the rest of the queue for the half hour it took to get the money counted). So, I've been tootling around the rooms picking up coins and feeling jolly useful and putting ... read more

So time marches on and we still haven't finished sorting out the house. I have been in the rapping mines (no not where they find the bip bop music) the wrapping mines and I have been wrapping the house. There is enough stuff to open a chain of shops - when I raised this with Carol it was apparently my fault - I can't remember the reason?!! Carol has spent most of the time re-packing her case to go away (wot -only one case!!!) and I see her from time to time when she asks me questions such as - "What does 20kg look like???" We have also spent a lot of time saying cheerio to friends and family who will miss enormously. However my liver will be able to take a well earned rest. Well ... read more

The plan is to fly to Amsterdam then see where the wind takes me before i fly back home from Paris on the 20th Dec. Well - it doesn't seem to have been a long time from making the decision to spend a year travelling the world to it being a week before we go. As I write this I can hear the early fireworks exploding outside. Carol has the whole of the travelling papers in front of her and I can just see the top of her head. I have now finished work for a year - many thanks to Xansa (or Steria as we are now) for allowing me to take a sabbatical - much appreciated. Carol and I will of course have to work until we are 109 in order pay for the year. Many thanks as well for the collection from work which I have used to buy my rucksack. Anyway in the interests of adventure (and ... read more

Well, its the 10th October and 22 days and 21 hours until I leave. Setting this up early so I can give the address out to everyone! I have now moved out of my house and the tenant is moving in next Friday, (hopefully!), handed in my notice at work (12 days left to go!) and am just now trying to sort what to put in the backpack & I am off. A year away... no idea what to expect and am so so excited, nervous, happy, worried, shocked and amazed all at the same time!Hopefully this travelblog will keep everyone updated with what I am doing & where I am. As well as making as many of you as possible insanely jealous everytime you log on :-) ... read more

Well, that’s it! We’re back! Very tired, very skint and happy to be here, not! This morning we finished packing and had a last healthy breakfast. We then took a slow drive to the airport, which was only about 15 miles from our hotel. Fifteen days and nearly 2000 miles later I handed the car back to the rental company in one piece. There were a couple of times during the last 2 weeks when it could have been in more than one piece, particularly in Los Angeles, but luckily we came through unscathed. We had to remove shoes and belts to go through customs, and liquids and gels are still forbidden in large quantities, but we were processed quite quickly. Sam didn’t think that the large can of energy drink he was carrying in his ... read more

Well we're back. When I said I wasn't looking forward to coming back I was only telling a half truth. As someone who has only gotten out and stretched their wings once there were a few home comforts I missed about the nest - or at least realised I had done when sat with a plate of Fish and Chips on my knee, chatting with almost-family drinking much cheaper and better beer and watching crap telly. Martin on the otherhand who has had the taste of freedom more than once feels somewhat cooped up and I completely believe him when he says he hasn't missed a thing. When I was little I was always the one off away on Girl Guide camp, sleepovers and adventure weekends with school, but it's still nice to see family again. ... read more

Lately we've been pretty chill. There has been alot of rain. Which makes for pretty miserable travelling/siteseeing conditions. Cold too--the weather keeps acting like April. I keep waiting for the summer to start and last night had the harsh realization that summer has started!! The weather just isn't cooperating. We have had major flooding the last couple of days. Tuesday was particularly bad. The river here in Scotter (we call it the duck pond) flooded. Some people in this region of the country are still flooded and homeless. Most of that is an hour SW of us. There is a damn that is about to burst too and there is still more rain in the forecast. We're still hoping for the best--the sun has to come out sometime! A couple of weeks ago another one ... read more
