I have spent relaxing days at Ray's house. My cousin and brother must share similar DNA, the dry humour and slow-to-comprehend-my words kind of DNA. Luckily for Ray, I've lots of practise explaining things to Jason. Give me a few more days and Ray will have that dry, witty resignation that Jason has when I explain things. When I'm not nagging Ray, we catch up with life. He has had a colourful career traveling all over the world. Now he enjoys the finer things of country living. I borrow Katie and Bella and take them for walks along the countryside. Today we went to the market in Long Sutton. I played the tourist and took photos of the local highlights; Ray did too. On Sunday, I'm taking the train to Scotland.... read more

Today we went to a butterfly house. There were other highlights at this park, bird averies, bird of prey display, farm animal pens, herb gardens, fish ponds but the best part was the jungle for the pretty insects. When I entered the room the hot damp air was difficult to breathe for a few seconds. Soon I was entranced with the foliage and colours. The butterflies flitted happily from exotic bloom to exotic bloom. I took so many photographs chasing the florescent blue ones who would not stay still for my camera. At one point, several butterflies landed on my shirt... read more

Yesterday Ray and I visited one of the Queen's houses, Sandringham House. It rained later in the day, and that kept the crowds away. We walked around the grounds, with me admiring the blooms in September.... read more

Yesterday I went to Kings Lynn to shop for adapter for camera. This was my first visit to the town and it is much like any British town. The High Street has ancient shops alongside Subway and McDonald restaurants. I took lots of photos to use next year in my urban geography class.... read more

All good things come to an end……… Well we are home safe and sound - no thefts or loss of our valuables and no need to claim on the health insurance. Heathrow was raining and a heavy grey sky when we landed. I had a definite feeling of “where can I get a ticket out of here”. However we were met by Dan and his girlfriend Manuela which was great and they drove us all the way home- then we saw friends the same evening and had more champagne in one day then the whole of the 10 months we have been away - next day to see more family and finally felt as though we were back. Then more friends welcomed us back. We are very lucky indeed and especially with our family. The Welcome ... read more

This is the proposed itinerary. Bold type indicates where we hope to be camping. Princess Vince thinks that one day in London is enough, so I've moved the ferry from France to the next day - which happens to be Bastille Day - This will give us a stopover on the way from Cannes to Paris....otherwise it's a really long haul. We may be able to fit in the Normandy Invasion Beaches along with the Bayeaux Tapestry (depicting the Battle of Hastings in 1066) or go via Chartres Cathedral, built by the Knights Templar with the most amazing stained glass. As far as campsites go I have reserved the one's I can, the rest work on a first come first served basis...which is good (as we can be more flexible) and bad as we'll be arriving ... read more
