On my night of arrival Sam took me to a local pub for the pub quiz night. Pub quizzes are really big in the UK. The questions are also much more difficult than you would think for testing a bunch of inebriated people. I was lucky to arrive at all with many parts of Britain under a fog alert. Gloucester is probably a typical smaller English town. It does stand out with its enormous cathedral and small canal running through the centre. The weather was mild and mostly sunny (or foggy); a nice break from the torrential rain and winds in Glasgow. As always, it is the people that make the place and I was never lacking in invitations for parties, dinners, and pub nights. I probably spent more than a healthy amount of time drinking. ... read more

What happens when you get a bunch of strong willed Aussies together in the Cotswolds with a plan to cook their own Christmas day lunch? You get more food than said Aussies could finish if they were to eat solidly for a week!! I am sure that no Christmas menu was ever as hotly debated as this one. Think of all the foods that you think 'it would not be Christmas without....' and multiply that by 10, and you will start to get the picture. You know it is getting complicated when even the veggos start giving opinions as to what meats should be eaten on Christmas Day. On the plus side, however, it did mean that we had amazing food, and plenty of leftovers for Boxing Day! As you can guess from the above, I ... read more

Right, you've had enough opportunity to previously unsubscribe so you might as well read what is most definitely the last entry. With our travels an almost forgotten dim and distant memory coupled with the way we've just slotted back into society so seamlessly living in the same town and going back to the same old jobs, I feel like I'm pining for the fjords (of which we saw many) and thus need to reminisce and review just to convince myself that we really did go round the world for the full 365 days. Making good use of my last few days of leisure before I have to start the evils of working for a living for the next 100 years until retirement at 132, or whatever Gordon Brown decides by then, I've been going through all ... read more

Coming back to enkland makes me feel like I never left!...last week we were on the narrowboat, cruizing the waters leaping from one riverside pub to the next!. we decided that drinking beer and driving river boats was ok.. I mean. there are only two directions to go!... upstream or downstream. not rocket science... having said that, at one point we were frantically picking apples from a tree on the bank that we forgot to steer and ended up across, blocking the river.. then in our slight '3 pint panic', Jon thought he was going backward but insteam rammed foward into a tree which resulted in the front of the boat looking like the garden of eden!! we are now staying with debbie and today we visited these great neolithic standing stones... soo lovely... with a ... read more

Me Myself & I (Ben) (2 Weeks untils departure.) Well seeing as Jackie has already introduced Mr Onion Head i feel it necessary to introduce myself. Name: Ben Lewis Code Name: Vagabond 1 Age: 23 Description: I'm a whimsical fellow, with a tendancy to have extremely high expectations of what can be achieved in life. Ambitious? Yes, Couragous? Definately. My devil may care attitude was cultivated during my early life. When i was born i had already mused over a more exciting exit from my mothers stomach for 9 months. Feet first? Head first? Oh no my friend! Bum first...Yeh thats right, cheeks before head. I came out folded in two, touching my toes like some naïve prisoner bending over to reach the soap in a prison shower room. So before you considering following Jackie & ... read more

Ok, Now lets get down to the nitty gritty As this is my first post, i think it's important that I get a few things off my chest before this whole "look at us, we're going travelling" thing gets out of hand. Therefore, before we've poured our hearts out over all the magnificent places where we're going and what crazy, once-in-a-life-time things we'll be doing (in an attempt to get all of you green with envy) its important that all you fellow bloggers (in particular the females) realise what an epic this next year will be for me, and you should all feel very sorry for me. For no longer will I have my endless resources of expensive hair products, my masses of makeup, shoes, clothes or handbags, nor will I have my full length mirror ... read more

With approximately one month until departure I think it is necessary to introduce our trip and ourselves, the 'Vagabonds' or VB's, (as we shall be referred to from this point onwards. Please note a fan of the VB's i.e. you - the fanatical reader, will here on be referred to as 'VB-ites'.' Firstly the Destinations: 1) USA - San Francisco California. 2) Honolulu - Hawaii 3) Australia 4) New Zealand (Hopefully) 5) Bali 6) Singapore 7) Thailand & maybe other parts of Asia 8) Home So that is the planned journey. No doubt along the way we will struggle with the possibility of terrorist attacks, crocodiles, komodo dragons, snakes, spiders......But do not fear for us good VB-ite. We have prepared accordingly. No stone has been left unturned. Now if you ever plan to travel this next ... read more
