Just tomorrow to get through then it's up bright and early on wednesday to start our journey in such a romantic way- National Express coach from Cirencester to Heathrow. First hitch already, tried to check-in online and got myself checked in, Barb unfortunately not, so the time we'd hoped to save at the airport will be taken up sorting this out. Oh, and we've both got vile colds to spread to our fellow passengers. Still, nothing a few paracetamol and valium won't sort out. More when I sort out internet access in Thailand.... read more

When I booked this trip on the 19th November 2005, February 11th 2006 seemed a very long way off. In reality the time has flown by. I can’t believe where the time has gone. Well its now just 16 days until the flight and I think pretty much everything is sorted. Heaven knows how I’m supposed to live out of a rucksack for 6 months, guess I’m about to find out. I hope you follow my travelblog as I will make an extra effort to keep it up to date. ... read more

Three weeks until we start our little adventure. We've had this itch to do some travelling for years, but what with raising children, jobs and 18 years of dog companionship the opportunity to do it has just not been there. Now the kids are grown, we manage to get by without proper jobs, and sadly we lost our much-loved dog in December. Life in our house just isn't the same without him, so off we go. February 1st we hit Heathrow going to Thailand, intend to be there about a month, then onward to Australia, aiming to take in Womadelaide in March, also hook up with a friend from our home town who's acting in a touring production in Brisbane. After that, who knows. Whatever occurs, we'll try to keep y'all up to speed.... read more

Here is my first travelling blog, which I'm not sure what to make of. Not very exciting yet as I'm still at home in good olde west country but we will be adding loads of highly profound musings and breathtaking photography whilst we find ourselves. I think I'm hiding under the sink. Still got lots to do and lots to pack. 1st stop Quito. Hazar!!!! Our excellently devised plan and no doubt not quite so well executed is this: South America (Equador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina and Easter Island until xmas eve (have no Christmas day as crossing over the date line). Then in 2006 New Zealand, Australia. Then South East Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Bali). All sounds so easy. IF ANYONE HAS ANY USEFUL TIPS, THINGS TO SEE/DO OR PEOPLE FOR US TO ... read more

I MADE IT! I actually stayed in one of the incredibly long place names England has to offer! Unfortunately, it doesn't have photo access to offer, so this little texty entry will have to suffice. I'm staying with Alaya's auntie Debbie (who is REALLY cool!) at the moment and Alaya should be arriving today. LOTS of job prospects arising in Scotland! mmmm... :)... read more

Here is the begginning of my trip. I've been having a great time in Cork and am sad to leave but I'm excited about what I'm about to do. I met up with my Grandpa Arch, my mom, my brother Greg, and my uncle Geoff (UG). We're staying in Fort William for a couple of days and making day trips. Today we're seeing the Cotswolds and Straford-upon-Avon. We went to the little towns, they were beautiful. Almost cute looking. All the buildings are the same taupe brick color. We went to the church there and saw some reeeally old graves and an old clock that still works. There was a group of graves that told a story of a duke and his children. His older son died at about 15 and his daughter was so overcome ... read more

Well, despite the lingering desperate need for a job and a place to live, I still feel like I'm on holiday. Went out today with Benny to his grandparents' lake in Gloucestershire and spent the afternoon fishing, drinking lager and playing ukulele. I actually caught a fish! I'm not sure if I ever have caught a fish before, but if I have, none come close to rivalling the size and magnitude of the one I caught today! It was most exciting. There wasn't much action in the lake after that, but the lager and ukulele did a good job of occupying the rest of our time. When we got home, to make up for lost time I spent the rest of the arvo emailing every possible person I could think of who might have job/accommodation potential ... read more
