As a continuation of my efforts to see more of the UK as well as European nations, I headed to the Cotswolds this weekend with a group of friends. Although we were all Aussies - it seemed like a much more international affair. Three of us are now living in London, two were here on holidays from Australia (but had just flown to London from a 'great Alaskan adventure'), one is living in Geneva and the other in Zurich. We stayed in a cute little bed and breakfast in Winchcombe, a cute English country town among the rolling green hills (and yes - they are green at the moment now that there has been some rain) about 2.5 hours from London. The rooms were all decorated in ‘cute English country’ décor - in my case including ... read more

“The world is a book and those who don’t travel have only read 1 page.” THE PLAN: This is it, a journey throughout the depths of the globe, through timezones, jungles, over oceans, down highways and back. Some would say that an adventure filled with perrils and danger along the way could only be completed by the hardyest of explorer. I can hear it now, in years to come our names will be uttered in the same breath as the likes of Christopher Columbus, Captain Cook and of course, Michael Palin. Are you crazy or just god damn brave? I hear you ask. Well the likes of myself and my trusty side kick / girlfriend Jackie are not your average traveller. We are made of tougher things. We laugh in the face of danger, stand toe ... read more

Oh, Strew just reminded me that we should tell you all what we've been doing since we left manchester at the beginning of August, after several tears shed, (including a bizarre outburst from myself outside the Cheese Hamlet in Didsbury(!?!) we set off (thrilled that we escaped the clutches of our evil landlord) to my Brothers in the cotswolds, where he owns a pub http://www.theebringtonarms.co.uk/attraction.htm it was agreat chance to relax, and we thought it would be brilliant to get back to nature and live the country life for a few days, needless to say we spent the majority of our time watching DVD's, complaining about the lack of shops that sold cigs and on one day we went to Drayton Manor Park. We're now in Cambridge, living with my mum for the next few weeks ... read more

Arrived in London on 3 August and nearly immediately headed to a three day music festival called 'The Big Chill' in the grounds of Eastnor Castle. Went with a group of Adam’s friends - mostly New Zealanders - see photo of the crew below. As it turned out, other friends of mine from Sydney were also there - and although mobile reception was patchy at best, I managed to find them by running into one of them walking along a path around the campsites!!! While there is a range of music - from the Ukulele Band of Great Britain (popular songs played only on ukuleles) to blues - the music was mainly towards the dance music end of the genre. It was my first camping festival - and I must admit to being a bit concerned ... read more

Monday 10th July After a relaxing Sunday at Rob and Sasha’s Guest House in Worcester watching the Wimbledon men’s final and the World Cup Final, Rob dropped me off in Winchcombe and I was walking without my large backpack! I got through the last of the hills during the morning and then down onto the flat ground. I surprised myself at one point by catching some other walkers up as they were walking up a hill… I can only surmise that I must have been walking up hill faster than they were which, as most of you will know, is not like me at all! Highlight of the morning was seeing the sign (see photo) that there may be Bulls ahead and making the decision not to walk round, which would have been a 3 mile ... read more

Hello to everyone we are in England! Actually we've been in England for a while now... Since the 4th, Tuesday night. We took a flight from Athens and got picked up at London Luton by my Aunt Teresa. So first in Devizes, right near Bath... Was wonderful. Teresa was a very gracious host, lots of food in the fridge, very comfy beds, my cousin Josh showed us around, it was great. We went to Stonehenge, which is right near their place. Beautiful sight, right off one of the roads. Pretty funny that this is regular scenery for them. We got in on a student discount (thank god) and got a free audio guide with that to learn about the sight. We came out feeling full of new knowledge! Wonderful and wonderous to think of how those ... read more

Saturday 8th July This is my seventh day of continuous walking and I can definitely feel a bit of weariness setting into my legs. I got an early taxi back to Condicote and started exactly where I left off by the red telephone box. I was quite nervous about this day of walking since I think it is one of the hardest days due to the hills as I approach the edge of the Cotswolds. So it was a lot of uphill walking, then down and then up again... One of my hair-brain flights of fancy today was about designing a really light weight footbridge that you could span from the top of one hill to the next, sort of like spiders web bridges. And despite my fear of heights I would have been quite happy ... read more

Friday 7th July My bed was sooo nice this morning it was hard to get out of. If anyone wants somewhere nice to go for a lovely country weekend then “The Kings Head Inn” in Bledington is my top top recommendation! The hills started properly today and it was shocking looking out over a valley and seeing I had to down to that river and then all the way back up to that hill over there! But as always step by step and you get there... eventually. Got to Stow on the Wold and booked into a B&B and then at about 3:30pm I set off to do a bit more walking without my rucksack… it is GREAT and a lot EASIER walking without a big rucksack! (It was just the lack of accommodation in the ... read more
