today we all went on an all day tour to the cotswolds. we stopped at 3 different villages. 2 were really nice and 1 really was nothing special and not worth stopping at. i did see a hostel there at one of the more famous villages and it was really nice. so far every official hostel international hostel i have seen has been clean, at a good location, and the workers friendly. maybe i should have planned some of my nights there. thing about hostel international is that they kind of cater to a crowd that doest really want people to talk to them lol. I'm looking for friendly people and wants that want to socialize and junk. anyways, the Cotswold region is really nice and definitely worth a day trip and maybe even an extra day ... read more

We have wheels!! Yes we have bought ourselves a motorbike. Our main aim is to tour the UK on it, specifically Scotland in August this year. But we'll also use it for weekend trips as much as we can during the summer. For anyone who knows bikes it's a Yamaha Fazer 600 (1999 model). We have gradually bought all the kit that we need including enough luggage for our trip (well, it's enough if Rach can leave all her clothes and shoes at home!!). It's first test was a 3 day weekend around southern england. We went to Stratford Upon Avon, Bristol and Glocestershire. Unfortunatley it rained every day (and even hailed occasionally) but that wasn't enough to put us off. Saturday 27th May 2006 We rode to Stratford Upon Avon which is where Shakespeare was ... read more

The annual Cheese Rolling festival is world famous, and rightly so. Crazy, deranged people run down a hill so steep that their head overtakes the rest of their body almost immediately. The object is to chase a large round cheese, that hurtles down the hill at lightning pace, although sometimes it is stopped when it takes out a member of the crowd. If you come here, don't read the paper whilst the race is on! I thought about going in the race but decided I was rather fond of my unbroken bones. So I ended up going in the uphill race instead. This was a big mistake. I pride myself on my fitness but almost came last. It was very wet that day and I constantly slid back down the hill. The sneakers I was wearing ... read more

Part III 26th May - Friday Our First Wedding Anniversary We were out on the road by 1000 - jet lag must have caught up with us, as we didn’t wake until 0830. We followed ‘The Romantic Road’ around the Cotswolds - very appropriate! It is a route used by the tour buses but still very pretty. The best place we saw was Lower Slaughter where we encountered a group of Japanese artists painting the cottages and stream through the village. The road took us through Broad Campden, Moreton-on-the-Marsh Located at the head of the beautiful Evenlode valley, Moreton-in-the-Marsh is a thriving market town, which dates back 1000 years to the Saxon era. Bourton on-the-Water Probably the most popular village in the Cotswolds, and often referred to as the "Venice of the Cotswolds" because the River ... read more

Ed: After spending the last 3 weeks without travelling anywhere (care of KPMG keeping Matt extremely busy and stressed), a driving trip to Cotswolds for the weekend seemed like the perfect escape. For those who don’t know, the Cotswolds are quintessential England - one of the most picturesque regions, full of rolling hills and charming villages full of golden stone cottages. It’s the perfect romantic getaway. So with an early start on Saturday, we headed out west of London, with map in one hand and a Lonely Planet guide on the other. Now, the Cotswolds covers quite a large area, so after making a rough itinerary we selected a few villages and decided on Lechlade-on-Thames as our first stop. As we drove along, Matt noticed a White Horse symbol on the map, which he described as ... read more

ahhhhhhhhhhh, 36 hours to go. I’m all packed, everything fits in my rucksack, just, and at the moment I don’t think I’ve forgotten anything. (That’s bound to change in the next 24 hours.) I’ve discounted the option of third world child slavery as my bag is far too heavy for them to carry even for a dollar a day. Considering I am about to head off into the unknown and give up all the comforts of home (currently eating crisps and drinking wine) I am very calm and not at all nervous. Mind you the wine come from New Zealand and all being well I’ll be there in a month’s time. It’s all a bit surreal really, I’ve been thinking about a trip like this for years and with one thing and another I recon most ... read more
