Dear friends, a year ago we celebrated christmas in the heat of Uruguay. With 40 degrees on the beach we did not have any christmas feelings. This year, after a week in the Dolomites with -20 degrees we do have a real christmas feeling - still nearly as relaxed as in Uruguay. We wish you all a "Merry Christmas", some peaceful and relaxed days and a smooth start into 2010. All the best!

Today Kat offered to take us to Gstaad for a horse and sleigh ride around the lake with the free tickets that she had. Sweet Kat!! Gstaad is the playground of the rich and famous. Movie stars have their winter vacation homes here and Kat said we could probably bump into one of them in the town. This town also had really expensive shops, like Gucci and Prada. The girls were excited. Gstaad was so beautiful, the lake area even more so, but we could think of nothing except the biting cold as we rode around the lake in the minus 15 degree temperature. The girls were bored on the sleigh ride and frozen solid and thought there was actually no point to getting all frozen for nothing, but as usual I put it down to ... read more

The days we spent with Kat, Andy and Solo were very relaxing. We played in the snow, cooked together, and sat for hours on the sofa just chatting. I cooked chicken curry and roti which Solomon totally loved - and of course Kat and Andy too - but they knew this food from having travelled in India. Today Kat and Andy made plans to take us to the ski resort, which normally does not open so early in the year, but this year the snow started early, so the resort opened just this week - lucky us! Getting dressed for the ski trip was a big deal cos we needed snow clothes. Kris and I had ski pants and all three of us had snow jackets, but Kee did not have proper pants, so after trying ... read more

We arrive in Zweissiman and I phone our host Katherin's home - a little boy answers and he says that she is at work and that I must phone back in 5 minutes. It's freezing, we're starving and it's getting dark. I phone back and Solomon the little boy gives me his mom's cell number. I phone Kat and...surprise...she is not expecting us till tomorrow cos the last email I sent her said that we were going to spend an extra day in Venice!! Silly silly silly me!!!!Now she is at work and only finishes at 6pm and there is no way to get to her place without a car as they live up in the mountains, so we go into a restuarant and wait there for her as it is way too cold to wait ... read more

It was a long train ride to Switzerland as we were now entering another country & had to change trains, but it wasn't too bad as we were on time and hey magic we discovered that we didn't have to lug our bags down the million stairs - there were escalators and elevators. Gosh what were we thinking -this is Europe, hello!!!! The train jouney was pleasant - EUROSTAR really really fast, Krisel was feeling a bit dizzy. We passed thru the beautiful Italian countryside and then the Swiss. However it was getting dark early as it was winter, so we needed to keep an eye out for our stop. Zweissiman was our stop, so we had to get off at Bern and take another train to Zweissiman, but we did not know this and just ... read more

Well, the van made it all the way to Sunny Switzerland without any major problems! That's a whole lot better than last year! Our first stop when we hit the continent ws a place in france called Buzancy. We were only here as a quick one night stop so we slept in the tent and left the awning safely strapped to the roof of the van. nice campsite off the beaten track with its own lake to swim in and a chippy van serving burgers and chips etc. We then drove further south east to Langres (went here last year but stayed in a chalet). Lovely site looking over a large fishing/watersports lake. It has a restaurant/bar and gamesroom and nice private pitches. But hundreds of wasps, which Adam wasn't too happy about as he ... read more
