(November 23rd) Note: I have no side notes in this entry. All of the side notes in parentheses have been brought to you by Brian . . . and the letter q . . . and the number 4. Leaving Barcelona at 7:30AM on a Sunday morning wasn’t so bad. The late-night partiers were still on their way home, as well as some transgender ladies of the night. Nothing says high boots and mini skirts on a seven foot tall “woman” at 7:30 in the morning. (or the dui checkpoint catching drunk drivers at the same time) Immediately on the train, Brian had to use the toilet (really bad). A family watching the train outside before bidding their mom farewell had the unfortunate pleasure of watching Brian “flush” directly onto the train tracks. I had the ... read more

(November 23rd - 24th) Arriving at 1AM in Interlaken was not only exhausting after our 16 hour day of train rides, but it was also a bit of a culture shock. Only that morning we watched the sunrise on the beach in Barcelona, and now here we were in the middle of Switzerland with snow falling all around us. Unreal! Brian and I decided to have a quick late-night snowball fight before turning in, to thoroughly celebrate our victory in making it here without having to sleep in the train station. Unfortunately there is a 10PM noise curfew in Switzerland, and its next to impossible not to giggle and scream in delight as you’re being pummeled with fresh-fallen snow made snowballs. About five snowballs in and we called it a truce, laughed, and made our merry ... read more

Trading Beach Towels for Tobagans We always start with trains so today will be no different. The first train of the day was built in 1704 by a blind man who dropped out of engineering school after one semester. This man also had no concept of how the human spine works and developed seats so uncomfortable they actually made parts of my body go numb, but, no train, no pain, no gain. I have half my kneecap due to the automatic doors that close on you and if you’re over the age of 70, don’t expect any sympathy from people trying to get on a “no reservation,” train. They’ll run you over and then steal your purse. It’s a dog eat dog world on those trains and old people are kibble. Our train to Geneva looked ... read more

so today was our first full day here in Berne, sweeetserland. it is much different than our other host cities. it is ridiculus expensive. we went to the cheapest place that all the books and hostel recommend, a self serve caf style place 33 sfr! max it should have been 20. i had quite the hankering for some thai food, and since there is one next to our hostel i took a look at the menu- 20 sfr for pad thai, come on!! pad thai is 8 bucks in canada and enough for seconds! how sad for my thai aching tummy. anyhow, today chris and i went to Albert Einstein´s apartment, which is now a museum. it was very cool. difficult to actually imagine that he conceived his theory of relativity there, which i have no ... read more

These are a few of my favourite things to look forward to tomorrow. Hello everyone, Here were are in Bern, Switzerland the birth place of the Toblerone bar. Meg and I had a long but beautiful trip through the Swiss Alps today and what a site. The mountains were higher and whiter then they were in Austria. Speaking of Austria we spent our last day in Salzburg yesterday touring another house of Mozart and more Christmas markets. Meg and her sister started to call me the zebra as I resembled one of the striped creatures. I was going from vendor to vendor like I was trying to get away from prey. With carolers in the background it was surely the start of Christmas in Austria. If we didnt know the date we would have thought the ... read more

We were sorry to say goodbye to Andy and Austria, but chocolate and fondue were beckoning. We wanted to visit Switzerland a bit before flying from Milan to Brussels. We had a hard time deciding where to go but Andy said the capital city, Bern, was beautiful so we went with his suggestion. We got off the train starving but because it was a Sunday all the grocery stores were closed. We poked our heads into McDees and quickly bolted when we spotted a Big Mac meal for 13 Swiss Francs ($13 CAD). I broke down and ate a Kebap (Alex's favourite, a turkish scary meat thing on a giant spit). Switzerland is a very pricey country for everything except Swiss Army knives (no joke). We spent 3 nights in Bern. The first night was in ... read more

... read more
