First off, happy father’s day to all the dads out there - thank you for everything 3 Mmk, I started my day quite late because since I’m in a hotel I took advantage of prime sleeping time… ie. about 13hrs worth of prime sleeping time haha. By the time I headed off into town I was like “oh so much energy! Let’s go!” We’ll see how long that lasts haha. Thankfully I had google map’d how to get to the Metro from my hotel because the instructions the front desk gave me were not only crap, but they were also wrong. He told me to take a path through the two office buildings and it goes straight there. Uhm, try you have to cut through the parking lot of 5 apartment buildings, turn up the street, ... read more

It’s quite remarkable that I’m able to type fluently at the moment - I thought that the crowds were quite tame (albeit large) back on Independence Day in Reykjavik. Little did I know that (seemingly) all of Iceland was waiting for last night to party it up. Since I've been staying on one of the main streets (more pedestrian than car traffic), I do expect lots of noise… but an outdoor concert, on the street, in front of the bar (which was diagonal from the hostel) STARTING at 11pm? Oh, and throw in a bunch of soccer fans with blow horns. Lovely. Any other night would’ve been cool, but considering I had to catch the airport bus at 5am this morning, I was a little less forgiving lol. One of my dorm-mates was also planning on ... read more

After a hard year in Vilnius University I’m back at my old summer work in Oslo. It is awesome to be back and meet old colleges. Unfortunately, I couldn’t manage to finish my yearly paper earlier and I needed to fix it in same time like I worked. Believe me, it was really hard to study and work in same time, but I have learnt from my mistakes - never leave the studies to last minutes. However, I managed it really well and now I could concentrate on my working holiday. I really enjoyed my work - I was working with older people in the care home. It is a great experience for my future work like a psychologist. Of course, it wasn’t easy every day and we had a challenge to cope with it. Also, ... read more

Eg har då og vore so freidig at eg har pakka med solbrillene mine :D ... read more

I spent the past couple of days in Oslo, Norway visiting my friend John-Rune. Up until this point, the furthest north I had ever been in Europe was Copenhagen, which happens to be one of my favorite cities in Europe; needless to say, I was definitely looking forward to what the rest of Scandinavia had to offer. In general, I had an amazing experience in Norway. The people are the nicest, Oslo is a nice city, & it's a genuinely great atmosphere (minus the fact that everything is expensive). Norway isn't a member of the EU; therefore, it's not a part of the Euro-zone so it uses its own currency (the Norwegian Krone). Right now, the exchange rate is about 1 USD for every 6 NOK. When I withdrew 1200 from the ATM, it freaked me ... read more

Norway welcomed us with the frosty arms of a chilly windy with fleks of snow breathing down our necks matching the chill in my heart of the impending financial crisis I felt was imenent. This mattered little however as the exitement of sandy joining us warmed us like a sleepness night before santa comes when your 6. The fear of overpriced watery bear lead us to stock up on as many spirits as we could in england before we left. This turns out to be a good idea for anyone who is thinking of coming up here, but a bad idea if your pack is allready in the super heavy weight category, clocking in at around 19,2 Kg and your backpackers is at the top of a deceptively steep hill. The packers I mention is a ... read more

We woke up around ten and took our time to get ready and eat breakfast. Our plan was to take a boat to an island in the fjord, then meet Emma’s cousin, Kristi, for lunch, then maybe a museum or something else. We had looked at the boat schedule with Jan the previous night before and he told us about the boat at 11:25, which I told him was optimistic. We decided to plan on the boat at 12:45. We didn’t make that, either. We decided to return to the pier for the boat at 3:25, and in the meantime we would wander around the fort nearby that was currently a military base, then make our way over to Kristi’s café for lunch. We approached the open gate of the fort and found ourselves face to ... read more

Emma and I finally escaped the volcanic ash cloud that stopped flights from leaving or entering the UK for six days and arrived today in Oslo, Norway. I will write more about my semester at LAMDA when I have more time, but I want to stay up to date with this current journey. Sorry about my ridiculous lack of entries throughout the semester... So to begin: the initial plan for studying abroad in London was to come home the day after the course ended (April 17th) and go back to the real world and my American life, but shortly after spending time in London and falling in love with it, I realized that this was the perfect opportunity for me to do some traveling throughout Europe after school. I realized I had both the time and ... read more

Have had two sleeps in Oslo at the Perminalen Hostel. Liked it so much that I have booked myself in for January. Arrived at 06:25 by train from Bergen. Hostel open but room not accessible. Have coffee and eat the sandwich i had made on ship ... yesterday. Walked past fortifications to Pier 3 and paid the fare to go on a cruise around Oslo. Big deal cruise ... sailed , by motor, saw the fortifications I had just walked around, went past huge cruise ships and stopped at the Opera House. Good views of city from water perspective. I got off at the next stop, which came after a sail around a big island. Because this is the winter route I am asuming that the number of stops have decreased in number. Was dropped off ... read more

After my organized spring break trip through school I jumped on a plane to Oslo from Berlin. I wanted to spend some time up north in cooler weather and also wanted to see the mountains and fjords of Norway. My mother’s family is from there and some still live near Oslo. When my flight landed it was pretty late and I had to take a speed train from the airport into the city and then walk to my hostel from the train station. My hostel was near the center of the city, so it was easy to find with a good map and near the things I wanted to see. I was supposed to be there for 3 days, with one of those days a side trip to Drammen. The first morning I slept in a ... read more
