Without a tight schedule to follow this morning, we were able to sleep in unlike previous mornings. Breakfast was delievered to our rooms and we didn't start exploring until after 11am. Oslo is a city that didn't really have any of those "must-see" sights. We weren't really sure of exactly what we wanted to see so we chose to check out the museums that were over in the Bygdoy area. It was another sunny day on this trip and I am still amazed at the perfect weather we have had thus far on this trip. We walked over to the waterfront where we boarded a quick 10 minute ferry over to the Bygdoy peninsula. Bygdoy is an upscale residential area on a peninsula jutting into the Oslo Fjord. Located here are some of Oslo's best musueums. ... read more

This morning we caught our Flybus airport shuttle to Keflavik airport for our 11:00am flight to Oslo. When we checked into Norwegian Airlines, we were confused about all the balloons on display in the check in area. We were beginning to believe that Norwegian Airlines just really valued customer service when we saw they were offering snacks, coffee, and soft drinks to the passengers at the gate. We later learned that this was the inaugural flight for Norwegian Airlines from Reykjavik to Oslo and there was a bit of celebration going on. The flight to Oslo was 3 hours and was rather uneventful. Once in Oslo, we caught the airport train that brought us all the way to Oslo Central Station in less than 30 minutes. Now we just had to find our hotel on Moellergata ... read more

We are on our way. Southampton slipped behind with much pomp and pageantry. God Save the Queen was sung, Union Jack flags were waved, champagne was drunk and bunting flew above the bars. Strangely as we started to gain speed the DJ felt it appropriate to play at great volume “Tragedy”, which at 2am in the morning with a skin full on board could be great humour – sober, seven stories up on a ship heading off into the North Sea could be seen as slightly dark humour. I guess the Titanic theme was not available to download. Anyway, the P & O cruise line had three ships in port and we set off up the Solent with the MV Azuranot far behind us, which led to a rousing and ... read more

I don't know what pops into your head when you think about Norway, but for me it's Vikings! As well as bolluck numbing coldness and chest-pain inducing prices, of course. And funny accents. Not to mention weird TV adverts with dancing naked people. But mostly just Vikings. Harbouring a worsening case of man-flu, I decided to leave the comparitively tropical climes of London and head for the fjords to investigate, this time with 2 lovely ladies to accompany me: My Welsh ex-flatmate from Auckland, Ruth, and my South African friend from London, Megs. We decided Viking names would be more suitable though, so after much deliberation we became Ruth the Battered, Megs the Awesome, and Clay the Undecided (Our plan was to wear Viking hats for the duration of the trip, but unlike Copenhagen Oslo is ... read more

Being on a boat seems to be a common theme throughout my travels, and on Sunday I found myself on one again! This time it was a cruise ship as opposed to an overcrowded wooden boat filling up with water. Sunday was also Tandi’s birthday, so before we went to meet the others we attempted (and failed) to find a fancy restaurant for lunch. Unfortunately not much is open on a Sunday in Lund, so we had burgers next to the train station. Anyway, after what seemed like forever of being in the cold, we finally made it onto the boat and went straight to the Jacuzzi and sauna with the girls. After a couple of relaxing hours we got ready and went to a really fancy (and expensive) dinner for Tandi’s birthday! It began as ... read more

Let's recap if you're only reading this one: It all started in May - Vancouver, Brazil, Copenhagen, France, Sweden - big events we were working in each place. Then a summer of festivals and events and now, here we are, just before Mexico. A quick run down of events: There was KulturSYDhavn, round 2. It went well. It was combined with a mobile hacking workshop so that was really interesting, and followed up with my good friend Christian welcoming his daughter, Katinka into the world - congratulations to you all! Then we had a fairly hectic insane fall - a quick trip to Berlin as part of a visit with Nick and Ben - my good Canadian friends who have now twice come to Denmark so that was fantastic. A Copenhagen Burlesque, short but lovely as ... read more

Note: All the events mentioned in this entry occurred back in late March 2007. For more updated trips and entries, please refer back to this blog at a later date. An updated trip or entry will NOT include a note like this. Thanks and enjoy! I woke up early the next day, however I was too early to get my breakfast at the hostel. Nonetheless, I had a busy day planned. I was going to Bygdoy to see the Norwegian Folk Museum and also the Viking Ship Museum. If I had any time left, I would go to see more museums back in downtown. I ended up taking the trolly from Karl Johan's Gate there, which was a nice trip. I remember seeing as we drove past, ladies wearing traditional dresses going to church which I ... read more

I had always wanted to travel to Norway ever since I was a little girl, especially after going to the Norway exhibit at Epcot's World Showcase (for more information on how Disney World has influenced my interest in world travel, please refer to my blog entry entitled "Two Days at Disneyland Paris.") However, originally I was going to go to Oslo with a new American friend I had made in my new program through IAU at Centre'Aix (for more information about my study abroad experience in Aix-en-Provence, please refer to my blog entries entitled "The Move to Aix-en-Provence" and "IAU Trip to Nice, Monaco/Monte Carlo, ... read more

... read more
