Cork is boring as hell, but I must say, it gave me one of the best stories I have from the trip. The area where we are staying is a bit in the middle of nowhere part of town. This leaves us with little to do and I believe the Contiki plan is for us to get some sleep. For some this is what happened. For the rest, the night was LEGEND- wait for it- DARY. We begin with a bit of, what they call, 10 pin bowling, which was a fun way to unwind. From there we crossed the street to the hostel bar across the way. Here we proceeded to drink as much as possible again (I believe that we are all dreading the end of this trip and a return to the real ... read more

I, Janie, have been seeing this in alot of the tourist shops, and I thought it was kind of funny, so I thought I'd post it. Love the part about tipping. Travelers' Prayer ‘Heavenly Father, look down on us your humble, obedient tourist servants, who are doomed to travel this earth, taking photographs, mailing postcards, buying souvenirs and walking around in drip-dry underwear.’ ‘Give us this day divine guidance in the selection of our hotels, that we may find our reservations honoured, our rooms made up and hot water running from the faucets.’ ‘We pray that the telephones work, and the operators can speak our tongue.’ ‘Lead us, dear Lord, to good, inexpensive restaurants where the food is superb, the waiters friendly and the wine included in the price.’ Give us the wisdom to tip correctly ... read more

We set out from Dublin on friday on the Wicklow Way and hiked to about 14 miles to Enniskerry. We had the path almost to ourselves once we left the city. The views of Dublin, the bay and the Irish Sea were amazing. It rained for about 10 minutes everyhour. This gave us just enought time to decide that we should put on rain gear, and get it on before the rain stopped. Everyone we meet keeps telling us how beautiful it was the previous week. Between the down pours it was great. This is the Ireland I envisioned. We had breakfast with a very nice Belgian couple. They we're from the north and their primary language was Dutch. The next day (saturday) we walked from Enniskerry to Roundwood, around 13 miles. The inclines were steeper ... read more

Coral: Well we've made a lot of progress distance wise since our last post. Still haven't managed to find an internet cafe with a place to download pictures yet. Oh well. There will be many pictures to see when we return, we had to buy another memory card for the camera today. Today we've ended up in Cork which is a surprisingly large city, much bigger than we expected and we haven't even seen anything but our BB yet, just trying to find it was crazy, a bit like getting around in Seattle. Anyways, since Dublin we have been to Newgrange and Knowth, two neolithic barrial tombs where they do an amazing show of light to show you what it would be like standing inside Newgrange for sunrise on the winter solstice; the Hill of Tara ... read more
