We are now living in Cork city. We found a really nice apartment that overlooks the city and the river valley. Most of our time has been spent looking for jobs and trying to get our place set up. Unfortunately there is a recession going on and there aren't many jobs but we are hoping we can tough it out. Our place is in an area called Sunday's Well. There is an old prison down the road from us as well as a huge church. We also have a pub right across the road from us, we will go there to celebrate once we have jobs, hopefully soon! This weekend we want to go to Taste of Cork, maybe have some soda bread, or fresh fish.... read more

It seems the wind in Connemara & the Cliffs of Moher was too much, as I now have a major case of nose-leak and hurt-throat. I've been barely audible for a couple of days (you should (not) try out ordering food without any voice, it's kinda interesting), but I know my throat is getting better - now it only hurts when I cough or get out of breath. XD Yesterday I coughed up this incredible, sticky yellow slime that would not break. It was really some kind of alien-slime, I believe, that somehow landed in my throat from outer space. (Whaddaya mean too much info? XD) Anyhow, I booked a flight back home to next Monday. I like being abroad, but on the downside my sholders ache from carrying so much stuff around all the time. ... read more

Here are a few pictures of another church designed by Pugin, Ss. Peter and Paul in Cork. The Blessed Sacrament was exposed for adoration, so I was somewhat limited in what pictures I could take. I had intended to hear the traditional Latin Mass here at 10 a.m., but my €2 alarm clock failed to wake me in time. Oh well, at least I got a good, solid nine or ten hours of sleep. I inadvertently deleted the pictures I took there this morning (I'm not used to moving files on Windows Vista), so I went back this afternoon for a few shots. I also picked up some political literature in the back of the church about the "abolition of the Irish Nation for the EU Dictatorship." The other pamphlet was titled "A Godless Empire." I ... read more

We made it to Cork in one piece! As it turns out, I had to drive from Dublin to Cork (3+ hours), which wasn't exactly what I had bargained for, but all is well! The actual competition is tomorrow night; our twelve minutes on stage will be what we've been preparing for all semester. Our performances yesterday and today went very well. Here are a few pictures. Also, check out Ashley and Chris's blogs at http://socontinental.blogspot.com/ and http://www.chrisjosof.com/Light/Blog/Entries/2008/4/30_Much_needed_rest.html Patrick... read more

I'm in Cork now, flew over from Cardiff eight days ago, which means I'm on day 5 of 7 here. So far I have learnt and forgotten some Gaelic (aka Irish). The government people in Ireland are trying to reintroduce it as a widely spoken language (as if that's going to work) so they've put the Irish translations onto road signs etc, and in some places everything's in Irish (which is very confusing when you're looking for the toilets but walk straight into the staff office!). Anyway, I can't think of anything else to write, except Iva, if you're reading this, thanks for being great! (by the way Iva is the person who's spare room I'm renting for the week that I'm here). Maya xx... read more

I've put up pictures on my picture site. I've set up folders for them, so peek through the folders to the left. dropshots.com/imaginarygill Go look! PS... the site went funny on me and scooted everything to the left. So, some of my captions or the pictures might be missing letters because I ws blind typing. There's also a caption of a scenery pic saying "Cows!"... that's not supposed to be there lol But the site won't let me edit it right now, so it's going to have to stay that way for now.... read more

I've just arrived in Cork about an hour ago... a day sooner than I planned. Let's start with Dublin first. After I arrived to the city center, I found an internet and baggage storage place. From there, I met up with a girl from California and wandered around for a while, took pictures, and had to chicken curry before I hopped on a train to Tralee. The train to Tralee stopped early and we all had to hop on busses (provided for us) the rest of the way... something about a strike. At Tralee, I shared a room with 3 Irish guys, 1 Swedish girl, and a Scotish guy... there were 2 others but we didn't talk. There was another person in the hostel that I found out lives in Bothel. Saturday morning, I caught a ... read more

While we were in Cork, Ireland, we took a daytrip to a wildlife park that we had read about randomly in an atlas. My friend Kate and I thought it looked like a really cool place, the other girls weren't interested but they dropped us off on their way to a different tourist destination. The park was amazing! The moment we entered we could see giraffes and they had a huge field and even though there were fences, it was nothing like the zoo. Everything was much more open! FOTA has a lot of endangered species and a lot of them are able to roam free around the park and get along well with other animals. The giraffes also had ostriches, oryx, and zebra in the same field. They had a lot of cheetahs too! That's ... read more

Ireland - Kilkenny to Cork Monday 17th March We awoke to another cold morning, but no rain. The sun was shining although it was still bitterly cold outside so we rugged up. Breakfast at Rosquil House was great - these Irish B&B’s certainly know how to do things. The lady who runs it is a doll, she’s great. Our train to Cork wasn’t until 2:00pm so we just wandered around town and checked out the sights, and watched them setup for the St Patricks Day Parade which was taking place at 3:30. We were sad to miss to it, but the next train after ours would have left us getting into Cork at about 9pm which was too late for Reag. It’s funny, but we seem to celebrate St Pats Day more in Australia than they ... read more
