Monday 8th july, heading on the ferry to mykonos which is meant to be party island, bit nervous and excited. In greece we had pasteries called baklava which was yummy, the best food i have had so far is in Greece, last night we had misaka and taziki yum!. So far i have started picking up the ausi accent, not happy about it, but got them liking nz sounds. Apparently a cactus by the door is good luck, which is what we had at the plim flat so we'll keep that up. Yesterday we went to the corirth canal in greece which was quite cool, i got some good photos on my camera. We got some more new people last night one more boy and 4 girls so now we have four boys all together poor ... read more

Recap of the last few days as the wifi has been crazy.Tuesday- Italy, rome. We did a four hour walking tour through rome, it was a long day as it was 38c. We saw all the main sites, pretty amazing. When we got back we had a party night, some of girls dressed up in togas & bikinis and a lot of buckets. Wednesday- Italy, rome. Today we went to the vatican city and saw the popes balcony etc. it was amazing and the art work was very impressive. The sistine chapel blew my mind, especially how everyone can stay so quiet :). That night we had the most awsome dinner from the top deck tent, it was brusheta, risoto, chicken and teramasu yum yum. We have all had so much gelato, milly now i understand ... read more

On the road again....now it was my turn to hunt for lost luggage. 1,500 passengers luggage was deposited at the port. We quickly found 3 of our suitcases, but mine wanted to be with passengers on another floor! After a few anxious moments, we boarded a bus for Ancient Corinth. Aaron can relax because the bus driver gets to maneuver through the narrow streets (plus he KNOWS where he is going!). On the way we see the Bema of St. Paul on the beach. All this time I thought that a Bema was a church - no...it is the landing spot. So somewhere on this beach Paul landed as he entered Corinth. Paul spent 18 months with the tent makers Aquila & Priscilla. Check out Acts 18:1-18. He also wrote at least 2 letters to the ... read more

Very low key day. The nice thing about Olympia is that it's small enough for you to walk to all of the main sites. Don't have to worry about missing a bus. So took my time in the morning getting down to Ancient Olympia. The one bad/annoying thing, though, was all of the tour buses. These are the people that swoop in in the mornings, are herded around, do stupid things, and then drive off after a couple of hours in their massive buses. They give true meaning to the travel term, "ugly American" (although the most annoying are actually the Italian groups). Once the big groups left, a handful of people remained, and Ancient Olympia is large enough where you don't really run in to the same person twice. Enjoyed the Stadium the best. This ... read more

Hands down, my favorite day of travel yet, mainly because nothing went according to plan. The first couple hours went smoothly enough - I just retraced my steps on the bus by going through Sparta to Tripoli. It was in Tripoli that it happened. I knew ahead of time that the next bus to Olympia wasn't set to leave until 6 PM, and was prepared to sit in the bus station for something like six hours. As I was getting my ticket, though, this really nice guy behind the counter suggested that I set off at 12 for a little town called Dafni, and then he'd arrange for a taxi to pick me up and take me the remaining 30 minutes or so to Olympia. I know it all sounds very counter-intuitive (why couldn't the bus ... read more

Not much to do on the ferry... So I may as well continue writing out my thoughts about this trip. Me, Chris, and Sergio (the bus driver) were discussing last night that this trip is about 10,000 km and so for we have only traveled around 4,000. Of course this doesn't include water travel. Sergio was filling out Will's map and highlighting which roads we traveled and which ones we will travel on. Then he highlighted in a different color the places we stop in. All in all it looked very cool and I will have to do that when I'm back in Canada and frame it. 10,000 km. 17 countries. We're still 3 days away from the halfway point. I remember being nervous before this trip began thinking that I've never been this far away ... read more

The clocks went forward 1 hour last night. We are now 2 hours in front of the UK. We had booked our only official excursion today; a trip to the ancient site of Olympia, where the Olympics first began in the 4th and 3rdcenturies BC (Before Coe!!). Katakolon, I hear is nothing but a 2 horse town. As we are only in port from between 8am – 1pm, there wasn't enough time to make our own way to this archaeological site. It was an early start. For this reason we ordered breakfast in our cabin. I looked out of the 'round' window at 07:45 as the ship was being manoeuvred in to position. I couldn't even see 1 horse let alone 2!! It seemed a good call to be booked on an official excursion. A walk ... read more

GOOD BYE TO GREECE Today was a transit day from our Cruise ship to the overnight Ferry from Greece to Italy so not too much to report. We returned to the Port of Athens to end our amazing Greek Island Cruise. Like the rest of our tour it was designed to give us a snapshot of the islands and it certainly did that. I guess it’s no surprise that Mykonos and Santorini were the highlights however the whole cruise experience was a lot of fun and a very nice change from our day to day tour routine. One of the big advantages of touring as part of an organised group is that your bags are always taken care of. We put our bags outside our room before we went to bed and they were picked up ... read more
