Skip Naxos, go to Paros! Paros is not as touristy as Naxos but has plenty of fun things to do. I stayed at Athena's studios on the north of the island. This town had a great little downtown with restaurants in the marina and square, shops meandering through the typical greek mazes, and a selection of stylish bars to relax with a cocktail or cafe, listen to good music, and watch the fashionable locals buzz about. It was here on Paros that I rented my favorite scooter of the entire Greek island tour. It was an orange and cream Mio FunBike 150. Gorgeous! Proud dog owners constantly take pictures of their pups, the term is dog-porn. (nothing actually pornographic about it for those not in the know.) Me, I spent an entire day making scooter-porn. A perturbed Athenian quenched his divulgence. He chose me and filled my carefree mind, causing the strange restlessness of a pilgrim whom sets his first steps upon a long, unending journey. Like Ulysses’ banishment from home by angered Poseidon, I was on another island, the island of Rhodes, and the restlessness came surging in a torrent of tides. Another languid day of exploration had passed when it struck full force, and I was then on the town beach taking my evening bath. The sun was setting, west below the island of Symi and the exotic land of Turkey. And like Ulysses, this restlessness grew, springing forthwith from the churning waters of the directional soul. Passing Rhodes The day had been uneventful; a ferry the evening prior from Karpathos, the sleep and enjoyment in a first of ... read more

Well hello again. I know I said I was only going to write once a week, but I'm not so sure I'll be doing it for a couple of days and I want to catch you all up. So I got up to our first night in Athens. We all had a great sleep, even after the afternoon nap. Went down to breakfast (which was an additional 4euros, but no kitchen if you wanted to provide your own, very strange), which consisted of a side plate covered in yoghurt, with honey and museli, a cup of coffee/tea, orange juice, and 5 pieces of tiny bread (kind of like short stick cut downwards). Very filling, although I'm not quite sure the price is worth it. As I've said before, I think hostels are losing what their original ... read more

More photos from glorious Santorini. These ones are of the 'famous' church at Firostefani. I came here many times hoping to strike some great light. The church is beside Apartments Gabby, a place I was thinking of staying at as it boasts fantastic views over the Caldera. ... read more

Ok, so this is now the third time I've typed this, as it keeps deleting what I type. The flight to Milan from Madrid was a disaster. From the zig zagging on the tarmac before we even took off, to the bad pressure in the cabin, to the turbulence, to the fact that they didn't even apologise for being over an hour late, we were mightly sick of easyJet when we got off. Once in Milan, now an hour late, we lost any chance of getting a bench to sleep on, as we had a 7 hour layover until our flight to Athens in the morning. The one bench that was left was uncomfortable. I wasn't going to sleep, but kept nodding off, and Alex and Chez, who were intending to sleep, didn't get much more ... read more

Although 'blue' is not my official color (they are cardinal and gold), but the quaint Santorini is only best described as 'beautiful' and 'blue', and I have to admit that I even like it. I haven't seen anything bluer than the Mediterranian Sea water, which contrasting the white-washed churches and houses here. Donkey is the main transportation up the hill from our cruise ship to Fira, somewhat the center of Santorini. But we mainly spent our day in Oia, which is quiter and better, in my opinion. Off we go, back to our cruise ship. -Cy... read more

Here I am at last......WOW, what can I say. If you all thought I was obssesed about Santorini before I left NZ you will be worried to hear that now that I am here I am even more obssesed. So much to say, so little time. Most of it will have to wait I think until I get back home. My expectations were huge for this place and they have been met and then some. I love it immensly. I don't want to come home..........but don't worry Dad I will!! Have met wonderful people at hotel, girls from UK and USA. Have been out hooning around in an open top jeep thing to the famous Red Beach and winery. Dancing the night away on Saturday night. Even got to wear my good Ceroc skirt and shoes ... read more

Photos of Fira, the main town in Santorini. I loved Fira and was staying in a villa just outside the town. Some people have written that Fira is overly commercial, sure it is commercial but no more so realistically, than Queenstown in NZ. Santorini is a tourist island, as Queenstown is a tourist town. Get over it! And enjoy everything else it has to offer. There is nothing like sitting back in a comfy chair sipping an ice cold drink with cruisy sounds playing in the background as you take in the wonderful view of the amazing caldera. Fira also has some wonderful churches to photograph, great narrow pathways to walk along exploring and lots of food stands where you can get good gyros (which I lived on, along with the grapes)! It also has some ... read more

Hey all Told you we would write again soon. We have had another busy day. Last night we went out for dinner with the Aussie couple and their daughter. We went to a restaurant where they were holding a greek wedding while waiting for our table we were invited to join the celebrations that were going on. The red wine started flowing and the father of the groom welcomed us all into the party (family). We met the groom and bride and watched on as the dancing took place all around us it was certainly a very special time. When we sat down to order our meal the father of the groom came over and told us that he was paying for everything (our meal, our drinks the lot). This was hospitality that we had never ... read more
