So it's been awhile since I've reported here. I've now been on the island for a week and I think I'm suited to this environment very well. Athens was beautiful, as far as ancient art and food, but dirty and crowded and tourist-y. We left at the crack of dawn.... No, before the crack of dawn. The De La Soul show was the night before so I had zero sleep. (I danced on stage with De La and sang back up on "Me, Myself, and I" - it was the best night). The ferry ride was hell because I was exhausted, but heaven because of the sun rising over the sea and the live Greek music pouring from the musicians at the front of the boat. I slept sporadically. When we arrived, it was so dramatic. ... read more

We began our trip to Santorini by leaving Olympia at 7am on the train. Our train took us from Olympia to Corinth then we transferred to a train to Athens. This ended up taking about six hours in total. We then went out to the docks at Piraeus to buy ferry tickets to Santorini. Our ferry was to leave at 5:30pm and we could board at four. So we hung out for a couple of hours and waited to board. I must admit the idea of taking the ferry scared me quite a bit at first (they are so unnaturally large) but once we got started I thought it was pretty cool. We arrived in Santorini at 4:00am, with no place to stay and no idea of what to do. There were a lot of hotel ... read more

Annette: Like Christopher, I have been delegated to write about our Greek Odyssey with the boys. Everybody who’s anybody knows that Greece has always been like the Holy Grail to me. Finally, with Ed, Matt and Paul in tow we set out on this journey of self discovery! After a semi teary goodbye to Christopher, we set out for the train ride to Luton airport which was pretty uneventful. That all changed when we arrived and our Easyjet flight had been replaced with Air Finland. The plane looked like something left over from WWII, with broken seats and threadbare carpet! Not very reassuring! And upon looking out the window, we discovered we could see not one, but HEAPS of other planes zooming by far too close for comfort! Now I’m not religious by any means, but ... read more

So, I probably won't be writing in the blogger all the time now. Access in these southern countries is hard to find. And I am finding harder to have time to do it. But e-mail me as much as possible, I miss hearing from everyone back home. If I start writing in here more often I will e-mail. ... read more

Sightseeing trip with Christos 26 Sept (guy I met on the mountain top in Santorini). Firstly it was kind of funny I thought, the tall, loud Kiwi girl showing the short ( I did him a disservice in my previous blog as he is 5 foot 4 lol, not 5 foot), quietish Greek boy around the gorgeous town of Oia. We had a ball. Christos was so pleased to have me as his tour guide. I took him to all the sights I had previously seen then we went down to the little port of Ammoudi. WOW. What a gorgeous place. The colour in the cliffs was just unbelievable, as hopefully my photos will show. The raw beauty of the place is breathtaking. The energy or vibe that the whole area gives off is hard to ... read more

A 200 CC Motorbike around Santorini. Yesterday, Monday, I hired a proper motorbike (half road, half trail bike) and went off exploring. WOW, I loved it. And I was a good wee tourist and used the helmet, although most people don't. I hadn't riden a bike in a few years and had forgotten the joy and freedom I used to feel when burning up the highway......not that there are highways in Santorini mind you. Just narrow roads and lots of bends. It was fantastic. I had a ball. I was also able to explore lots of tiny wee roads that meandered round tradional villages. I had to hire the bike as my legs were totally knackered from all the walking I had been doing. The bike cost 20 Euro for the 24 hours and if I ... read more

We had nine days to spend in the islands. Not enough time for too much hopping around, so we chose Paros and Santorini--supposedly the most beautiful island. Three days in Paros and five in Santorini, but the long ferry rides to get around. I thought I would get sea sick, but I took my ginger tablets and and boats are so big that the only thing you could really get sick from is all the cigarette smoke! Greek people are lovely, but not when they smoke EVERYWHERE without any regard for others :) We didn't book our hotels ahead, rather, we showed up and were hoarded with "touts" advertising their rooms. We got lucky on both islands and ended up bargaining for some nice rooms near the beaches. We had our own kitchenettes so we did ... read more

WOW! Saturday 23rd and I get woken up at about 9am by the biggest, loudest crashing and banging sound I have ever heard. I thought bombs must be going off somewhere....well I was half asleep and did have my ear plugs in.....lol.... I get up, look outside to find it totally pissing down, then see a streak of light and realise it is lightening and then the thunder follows. Never in my life have I heard thunder like that before. Last night being Friday........funny that.........I decide to step outside my comfort zone and go to the clubs by myself. I knew they didn't really get going until late so thought that if I went at 11pm I should be ok. Wrong! I went round all the ones I had previously been to but the music wasn't ... read more
