As i am now comfortably back at home in the M. Dot, the rest of this blog is basically for my own memory's sake, haha, cuz chances are I'll be talking to most of you about my trip in person! May 11/09 I wake up freezing cold, woken up by 2 fighting cats. I have never heard cats yeowl (made-up word) like that. Only in Greece. With a wakeup call from the bball player, we head to our complimentary breakfast (egg, toast, croissant). After which i head to town in search of a bank. I get my refuel in money (YAY!) and attempt to walk back to the buses, which proved to be extremely difficult since all the streets in Mykonos look EXACTLY THE SAME. Narrow cobblestone streets surrounded by white buildings and obscure Greek named ... read more

May 9/09 We leave Santorini after dropping off our ATV's (Sad days...) today. Our hostel owner drives us to the ferries (the island is so small, so pick up and dropoff services are offerred by ALL hostels! soooo convenient!), and i am happy to announce that WE DID NOT MISS IT! yay! We pay a very sketchy 56 cents "port tax", which is collected by 3 casually dressed guys sitting on a bench (SKETCHY), then go onto our "Flying Cat" ferry to Myonos. After a nauseating 2 hour journey, we were there! I automatically see the difference between Santorini and Mykonos. The houses were ALL WHITE! No pastel coloured buildings were seen, but what can only be described as little white sugar cubed houses with brighly coloured doors and window frames. I definitely abused the "colour ... read more

So finally I've had some time off! Today I went to a beach by the resort all day long and it was AMAZING! The water here is beautiful. I could swim in it all day(and I did!) Alex went to santorini yesterday so I'm at the house alone... Its kinda weird but nice at the same time. He'll be gone for about a week and I think some new people will be arriving before then. So this week will bring some changes. I started learning manicures and facials this week. I'm not sure how regularly I will be doing them but my boss said he wants me to become an expert.... I hope that I wont have to tooo much because I like doing hair so much more but it will be good to have that ... read more

Today is my first day off since I've been on the Island. I was begging to worry it would never happen. I'm really excited to go do a little exploring on my own. Since I've been here I pretty much have not left the side of my housemate/coworker Alex. It been nice having a personal tour guide but at the same time part of my wanting to come out here was to do some exploring on my own. I'm not sure if he quite gets that and it seem like everyone here wants to protect me like a little baby. I appreciate it in many ways but after two weeks now I'm starting to go a little crazy. SO today came in the nick of time! I don't know how far I will get today ... read more

Friday 1st May Exploring Mykonos We knew the run of good nights sleep would have to end at some point and it was here in Elenis Rooms that was to happen. One of the problems with tiled floors and hard surfaces for walls is that any noise is at least trebled.!! And so it was to be from the early hours until 4am other guests(we have another name for them that is not printable)kept arriving home and banging and crashing their way into their room through the front door and their adjacent bedroom door as they came from home from the nightclubs nearby. We had taken count of the number of bedrooms on our floor and that had numbered six.Now we were tucked up in bed so that made 5 rooms to fill at worst. We gave up after ... read more

Thursday 30th April World famous for its windmills - Paros to Mykonos We awoke to any beautiful, calm day.We are now expecting the weather to be like this every day and I dare say we will be most upset when we do eventually strike rain again. The BBC news continues to be doom and gloom about swine flu although they don’t want to call it that in Europe as it will affect their pig trade. So while we are listening to what is being said we have decided not to concern ourselves until we come across people wearing masks. What more can one say about Greek yogurt. It truly is delicious,so creamy and thicker than the plastic like stuff we are used to in NZ.Bring on more of it !!We are going to be looking for Greek yogurt even when ... read more

HAPPY EASTER!!! Not sure you can find a place for a pin on your map for this stop. Our daily program describes Mykonos as follows: “A Greek Island and a mass tourist destination renowned for its cosmopolitan character and its intense nightlife.” We arrived here at noon and are leaving tonight at 7 P.M. We have to use the ship's tenders here, the weather is cool and windy and the sea is rough, so Granny Lynne and I opted to stay on board. The one photo shows you what we missed by not going ashore. Tomorrow we are in Athens, Greece, where we have another private tour scheduled. Love, Granddaddy and Granny Lynne Please click on the links below for the tracking map, the Queen Victoria Bridge webcam and the Queen Victoria tracking map. Chuck and ... read more

Woke up at 845 because I originally wanted to visit the Island of Delos, but was way too tired due to going to bed so late that I decided to go back to bed. It was a bummer, but it gives me another excuse to come back to Mykonos in the future:) We slept until about noon then decided to rent some 4 wheelers which were only 15 euro each for 24 hours! So only 7.50 each person since we could fit two people on each. I shared with Domi. And then we had to fill them with gas which ended up being 3 euro each. Such a good deal I thought, and ended up being the best part of the trip. We were able to ride around the entire island on them, and even stopped ... read more

We woke up, saw it was raining, and decided to go back to sleep due to the slight depression that we had since we couldn’t be spending the day at the beach. After we all woke up and were ready, we walked around town, went to a honey store, and got free samples. We bought sesame honey bar, a specialty of Mykonos. We had a big breakfast/lunch at Perfectos. I had a big Greek pizza and some Greek coffee. I ate half the pizza and bought the rest home to save for dinner! We did some pre-gaming in the room and then went out. We met some Greek men in the kabob shop and they told us to come back later to party and go out. So we did- and had a blast! They gave us ... read more
