Days 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16- Mykonos and Paros. So, the title this week describes the sunburn I have, and the fact that Mykonos is a party island. Did not get the sunburn from partying though, but visiting the island of Delos to see some more ruins and the birthplace of the greek gods Apollo and Artemis. Serves me right for trying to get some culture in the Greek islands, what was I thinking? So we got into Mykonos on a Saturday. We originally thought our hotel was in the middle of nowhere as it felt like the cab driver just kept going. After getting to the hotel and getting a map, we find out we are walking distance to 3 beaches, 2 of which are the most popular beaches on the island. One ... read more

Alright everyone, everything you hear about the Greek Islands is pretty much true; they are absloutely gorgeous. I left Athens 2 days ago for Mykonos, and it's been great. I left reeeeeeally early, as I got some bad advice from the tourist office and was told to just show up at the port without a ticket an hour early. When I told that to the guy working at my hostel he said, "You don't have a ticket already? You'll be lucky to get on at all." So I headed to the port at 5:45am (booooo!) and did in fact get a ticket and I got to Mykonos just fine about 6 hours later, after a lovely 3-hour conversation with a 58-year-old Australian woman who was also traveling alone. I checked into the campground and set up ... read more

After working Most of the coast south coast we decided we had better speed up and visit the islands. So planning a route with a few stops on the east coast of the Peleponnese with the finally destination being the Capital; Athens. I won’t go deep into details about the other attractions of this journey so as not to bore. So just one I will mention, Dira Caves. These were amazing, I don't think there would be many to rival these, most of it is viewed by boat. I'll just let you check out some pics so you can make up your own mind. The first impressions of Athens were like a wake up to the western world. Navigating around Athens proved to be a little trickier for me than I had thought (I then realized ... read more

Mynokos was a great place to end our holiday. Although our first impression was not so good. The cabins we stayed at at Paradise beach was not really a cabin but a permanent tent- consisting of 4 walls, 1 window, 1 door and 2 little beds. Compared to a beach hut it was awful but compared to camping in a tent it was great! It was quite hot and stuff inside but everyone spent all their time outside. The beach is really nice, there are bars with DJs playing fucky tunes, cocktails, water sports etc. It was the beginning of the season so it wasn't that hot and it wasn't crowded. You had to hire beach umbrellas or sun beds for like 5eur/hour so we went to the shop up the road and bought these 2 ... read more

Hey from Mykonos Island! Wow. I could easily live here forever. It's absolutely beautiful... The night of my last entry, I met up with my Contiki group in Athens, and we all went out for a tradtional Greek dinner in the Plaka (downtown) and it was a good way to meet everyone and hopefuly try to learn everyone's names. After dinner we did a bit of a pub crawl and by the end of the night, there was only a select few of us that were still goin strong. There is a good mix of people, some Aussies, some Americans, some South Africans, and 5 Canadians, 3 girls and two guys. One of the Canadian guys, Naveed, lives like, 4 blocks away from my old apartment in Montreal, which is kind of funny. The next morning, ... read more

There are some moments in my life where I wish I had the ability to press the pause button. I have felt that way continually during my time in Mykonos. The Greek people are so warm and kind with their "is okaaay" attitude. I have made friends who have welcomed me into their homes, lent me their cars and shown me the 'secret' beaches that the tourists don't know about. Their generous spirit sparkles like sun off the beautiful waters. In turn I hope that I have offered them a positive view of US Americans. That we can be environmentally and culturally friendly travelers who show tremendous respect for the areas we visit. ... read more

Wow - Mykonos is certainly not what we had expected!!! We arrived 3 days ago, and were greeted at the port by a handful of people asking if we wanted a room - normally there are hundreds! We chose one who informed us that we have arrived on one of the busiest weekends of the year - the Greeks' version of Spring Break. Bearing in mind Mykonos only has a population of 5000 - 30,000 students have descended on this small town for the weekend! Needless to say, it was a bit of a struggle finding somewhere to stay. We managed in the end and are staying outside of the town near the beach, about 3km away. Mykonos is a pretty town amazingly not too marred by tourists. There's Little Venice where all of the bars ... read more

Flying over Athens the city looked beautiful with red tile roofs and small cobble walkways. Upon closer inspection, the city is not quite as quaint. Bustling and congested it boasts the worst traffic in Europe. However the lack of charm is quickly made up for in the beauty of its people and the depth of its history. Athens is dripping in history. Some say Greece is the the lost Atlantis. Meeting up with my tour group has been amazing. Everyone is fun and up for a good time. There are about 30 of us total. Mostly from all over the united states, we also have some visitors from Canada and Australia. It has been wonderful to just sit back and not have to worry about transportation, how to see the sights, how to get to the ... read more

The trip to the coliseum was incredible; it was much larger than I had thought. There are many areas where restoration was attempted but failed. The weather has been great a little cool but still no need for a jacket. After we left the coliseum we returned to our hotel to catch the bus to the cruise ship, the drive through the country side was very scenic. Check in on the ship went smoothly and we found our room with no problems, the first and second day was spent at sea, so we explored the ship (not as big as the first cruise) I have many pictures and video of the ship. Today the ship docked early in Mykonos, a small Greek island (85 square miles) we went into town where we discovered streets that are ... read more

April 27th Today I went to Adventure Ocean all day. We played games like Gaga Ball and Crazy Tag. At noon, we got picked up by mom and went for lunch at the Windjammer Café. It is a cafeteria style restaurant. The ship was rocking a lot and the food was good. After lunch I went to mini putt with my new friend Hugo. He is from Australia. When we finished about 3 games of mini putt my mom picked us up. But, I convinced her to stay because the rock wall was opening in about 10 minutes. We signed up for the rock climbing wall. Tyler made it halfway up three times, Hugo made it up a little way, and I reached the top on the red and blue courses. Then I went back to ... read more
