Currently on the ferry to Mykonos. Just tried Greek coffee, quite interesting! I guess its like Bosnian coffee, the grinds are super fine and actually stay in the coffee, they settle to the bottom. We didn’t know this at first and added our sugar and stirred it up and took a sip and wanted to spit it back out. It was like drinking sand or dust! I was about to go complain about it but then Shannon realized that it might be like Bosnian coffee she had tried before. We let the coffee settle for a few minutes, and then tried it again and it was sooo much better once the coffee settled and stuck to the bottom. The water here is to blue! Like a deep, true blue. It’s a bit cloudy right now, but ... read more

We checked out of Athenais Hotel on a bright, sunny morning bound for Piraeus where we would be boarding our ship. We booked this cruise with Louis Hellenic Cruises months before. The itinerary includes: Mykonos, Kusadaci (in Turkey), Patmos, Rhodes, Heraclion (in Crete), Santorini and back to Piraeus, Athens. All of 5 days. Out Monday and back Friday. I know......it could have been a lot better to choose just one or a couple of islands rather than island hop in the next 5 days. But then again, we can always go back and this should serve as a good preview. After "exploring" our cabin , checking out the buffet, Shelly and I were so happy to be unpacking and packing just once in the next 5 days. The cabin is small, but it is clean and ... read more

After a 5 hour ferry ride, we arrived on the island of Mykonos in Greece. What are you doing here?" - that was the first question 50% of the people we met asked. Mykonos is a couple hundred miles South of Athens in the Meditteranean and is about 15x10 miles long. We arrived midday on Saturday and quickly realized that the residents are the nicest people ever. It is definitly the down-season as with any beach town, but it was almost a vacation within a vacation. We got a ride for free to our hostel, which overlooked the beach and had the nicest owner of all time. She did our laundry for us as we explored. We did have some issues with hot water at the hostel, but we got it taken care of after the ... read more

This past week has been power packed with action and drama on the high seas! First, I stubbed my toe and it hurts ALOT! So, a storm blew in last week and we were stuck in Egios for three days, that is in the Ionian Sea. With conditions not expected to improve, we jumped ship and took a bus to Athens to a larger boat, and it is so luxurious! A 50 ft sailing catamaran with 2 fridges, a computer with internet and big cabins are among the most BASIC necessities. Best of all, we have finally seen some dolphins, bottlenose. We are now in the Aegean Sea and it is been nice, but Tuesday was very rough and I was out of commission so to speak for most of the day. Finally, Wednesday: the boat ... read more

The beginning of our trip was a bit of a mission covering most modes of transport. We were up at 4 am and got a taxi out to heathrow for our flight to greece. Four hours later we then caught a train for an hour out to the old port on the opposite side of athens. We struggled to find what ferry we needed to catch and after asking at information they got some streert bum to direct us over to a ferry company. We then faced a 4 hour boat trip out to Mykonos followed by another car ride to our camping ground. Mykonos is the biggest party island so at 11pm after we had settled in we headed straight over to 'super paradise beach' for a ministry of sound dance party. Our camping ground ... read more

I'm including a few places in this entry because I didn't really do too much there. I actually didn't even get off the ship in Mykonos, Greece, but I took some great pictures from the ship. A cruise ship is actually and excellent vantage point for landscape or panoramic shots. You're elevated enough and far away enough to get quite a bit. So I have a lot of those kinds of pictures. That's the first thing I do when we get into port is head out on deck to see what kind of pictures I can get. So anyway, Kusadasi, Turkey is a much tamer and touristy Turkish town (say that five times fast). It's a little island with lots of resorts and shops and fisherman. The only thing you have to be wary of is ... read more

Hi everyone We boarded the ship yesterdya around 2.00pm. A lot of getting use to the ship so didn't do a blog entry last night. It is now Mon 12 and 8.15am. The ship is rocking very slightly. I was on top deck when the sun when down and was able to photo the sun going down. the wing was great had to lean against the front of the ship to stay upright and hang on to the rail as you walked. I have a great group of people who have included me in their circle. The ship is only rocking slightly. It is easy to get lost on b oard but I feel I now have my bearing as I have walked around on my own and got lost and found my way out. Last ... read more

Today we slept in and after buying Robyn some Greek sandles took a bus to Ornos beach. We had intended on going to Elia Beach, but we missed the 2PM bus and the next bus there wasn't until 4PM, so Ornos it was. We were plesently surprised with the beach. The sand is nothing like the beaches in Hawaii, not quite fine enough, but it was excellently equipt with sunbathing beds and wooden umbrella shade.... read more

We got up around 10AM and made the last boat over to nearby Delos. This island is famous for being the remains of the once Sacred Greek town which was unspoiled by the Romans as they abandoned the island. Walking around it reminded me of a Greek version of Pompeii. Beautiful mosaics preserved of Dyonises and another of Dolphins. We summated Mt. Kynthos for sweeping views out onto the sea and nearby islands. We made our way to the museum and saw the famous Delos lions and on our way to the return ship we saw the replicas that show where they originally stood. All in all, a very worthwhile little half-day trip. Not only that, we got into the site for free because we're students of the EU, I do a wonderful British accent.... read more

Today we slept in late and boarded our ferry for Mykonos around 10:30. When we arrived we met a nice lady who offered us a room (and really nice as well, a ride - as we arrived in the New Port which is far away from the center of Mykonos Town). The room is a great price for the location - a 5 to 10 minute walk from the center of Mykonos town, located by the famous windmills with a sea view and a balcony - all for only 50 Euros a night. We were happy to move in to it for the next 3 nights. Mykonos is a great island. It has everything an island hopper could wish for: Beautiful beaches, insane Nightlife and frozen in time Archeological wonders on nearby Delos. We wandered around ... read more
