So I got up at 8:30 and had breakfast with Steve, did some photo transfers from the cameras (this will turn out to be important soon) and video camera onto my laptop and backed everything up to Steve’s external hard drive. Steve and Rachel went to sleep and I went down to the lobby to meet the rental car agent at 10am. We ended up with a blue Chevrolet Matiz, it was tiny and had a 0.8 liter engine!! The agent told me we might have to turn the A/C off going up steep hills with all 3 of us in the car. Okaaay. I decided to do some exploring while Steve and Rachel caught some z’s and first went get some gas. I put 20€s in and should have known that would be way more ... read more

Kali mera (good morning in Greek)!! This morning, we headed to the Athens airport for a noon flight to the island of Mykonos. We had to transfer trains 4 times and it was a confusing system. We picked up other confused tourists along the way as we all navigated the system together anxious to get to the airport in time for our flights. We got to the airport with 40 minutes to spare and made our way to a small wing of the airport set aside for the frequent trips to the islands. It was only a 40 minute flight but they still served food and drinks albeit hastily. We could see other islands from the air and by 1 pm, we landed in Mykonos. The airport was in the middle of nowhere so, as suggested ... read more

Sunday 5th June 2011 contd We popped across the road to the restaurant Perfecto as it had free wifi. We had some sandwiches and drinks while catching up with the outside world. Then back to the room and that was us finished for the day. Monday 6th June 2011 The room is pretty sound proofed but there was some noises during the night from the surrounding rooms. Both of us managed to get back to sleep each time. We appear to be next to the car hire car wash and also the smell of cooking meat from the gyros cafe nearby adds to the ambience of the place. The maid tried to get in the room at 9 o'clock, but neither of us had stirred by that time so she was shooed away. We did amble ... read more

Saturday 4 June 2011 contd We went out for our dinner at 7 o'clock. First stop was the harbour as we had saved some bread and wanted to feed the fishes. Then into the main street and stopped at Lollo's Italian restaurant. A mixed salad, lasagne with salmon and zucchini and a Lollo pizza, with drinks came to €43.50. Then a walk up to the Kastro and back to the Nautica cafe for a little blogging and surfing, back to our apartment at 1030. Sunday 5th June 2011 We had a couple of boat trips to make today, so a slow start to the day saw us packing our bags and checking out of the apartment. We took our bags downstairs and Antonis was there, we complimented him on the apartment, it was excellent and at ... read more

This morning I didn't wake up until 10:30 am. I went for another great breakfast, then walked over to the hotel's gym for my massage. It was a maze and I had a hard time finding it, but eventually got there. The massage was meant to be kind of like a sports massage, and it was extremely painful. Good, but painful. Afterwards I felt so much better, more rejuvenated, and ready for the remaining three weeks of our tour. Traveling is a lot of fun, but it can get exhausting after a while. I'd been doing so much walking around and sightseeing my muscles were killing me! Try to splurge on something like this for yourself at least once if you can - you will feel great afterwards! Afterwards I went back to my room to ... read more

Today we all got to sleep in for the first time since we had left London. I slept until 10 am, then went to breakfast with Karly and Sharna. The breakfasts here were amazing - there was so much food and it all tasted great. For the next few hours I got ready, booked a massage for the next day, mailed some postcards, and used the computers in the hotel lobby. It was quite nice to not have anything to do, and to just catch up on de-stressing and some chores. At 1:30 pm, I met Karly, Sharna, and Debs to catch the bus into Mykonos town. Once there we split up - Karly and I went shopping one way, and Sharna and Debs went the other. Mykonos town was absolutely beautiful. I just found everything ... read more

Today was a very early start. We were up at 4:30 am, and breakfast was at 5:15 am. Our coach was meant to leave the hotel at 6 am, but Seb slept in so we were 15 minutes late haha. It was only a 30 minute drive to the port at Piraeus, where we boarded our ferry for the island of Mykonos! This was the place that the majority of people on the tour said they were most looking forward to, and I think it was one of the highlights of most people's trips (it certainly was for me). At the port we had to take all of our suitcases off the coach and walk on the ferry. The coach wouldn't come with us to Mykonos- it would stay in Athens for the next three days. ... read more

We woke up early Sunday morning to enjoy some sun by the pool before heading to Mykonos. This time our ferry did come and it was time to officially say goodbye to Santorini. Another stop complete filled with memories that I believe the “fabulous four” will never forget. Mykonos The gusty winds that cancelled our ferry finally tired of blowing and left us with a brilliant sunny day. With no winds, the water was still, glistening, and postcard perfect teal. We stepped off the ferry from Santorini and were greeted by Andreas- owner of Kymata Hostel. “Be careful your head,” almost obsessively Andreas warned as we entered his van or apartment. At Kymata, we had two beautiful rooms in a classic white/blue Greek city. Mykonos town was a winding maze of stone streets lined with shops ... read more

Greek Isles Chris and I always knew it – but it was confirmed from the moment we stepped on our ship the Louis Cristal – the Purser addressed us as Princesses. This was despite the fact that we looked a bit worse for wear – the trip to the port being a worrisome one that we would not arrive in time. BUT our gorgeous guide Enis ensured a car would be waiting and our driver whisked us to the boat in record time. Within an hour we were unpacked and up at the bar having the first of many cocktails. Everywhere we hear Aussie accents so although it is a Greek line there are many different nationalities on board. All the staff speak excellent English and there is under 1000 people. As we pulled out from ... read more
