Steve and Pat travelling Europe from late 2008,

Having slaved away for thirty or so years, we have decided to give up the rat race, head off and look for warmer climates to spend our dotage in warm sunshine.

Sunday 11 March 2018 Weather back to sunshine after a cooler couple of days. Slept well. Our original plans changed due to technical difficulties! Thai tummy. Pat did some packing in the morning and we left the room at 1.30 pm for a stroll. We walked along the road for a while then back to Sena Fast for a Starbucks visit. Picked up some supplies in the supermarket and back to the room for 2.45 pm. Pat did some more packing in the afternoon and had said that she wanted a drink by the river on her last night. So in the evening we headed to the Asiatique mall to try and accomplish this and left the room at 6.30 pm. We both spoke to our Mothers in the afternoon as it is Mothers day back ... read more

Thursday 8 March 2018 continued We waited at the gate and saw the plane come on to the stand. The airport had quite a few shops and food outlets and was very well set up. Much better than I had expected. Boarding commenced and we walked out to the plane, which was nearly full. Only a short flight of about an hour. We were given our arrival cards on board. We circled Don Muang airport a few times, but eventually got down. Smooth landing. This arrival into Thailand was sort of not planned as we didn't know 100% whether we would do Cambodia or not. So, we thought we needed a visa on arrival. We filled in forms and were waiting in a queue for the form to be checked, when an official approached us, asked ... read more

Wednesday 6 March 2018 Alarm set for 6 am. We both got some sleep and the alarm duly went off. We had packed most things last night apart from the things we needed this morning. The beauty of this trip is that we are only away for 3 days / 2 nights. Also we are keeping the room for that time, so can travel at minimal level, making life very easy. We showered, got ready and left the room at 6.40 am. Down to the ferry and a little jog at the end to catch the ferry and off straight away. Across the river and up to the Skytrain. The train was busy, but we were heading out of town, so the people reduced the further out we went. We changed at Siam to go to ... read more

Friday 2 March 2018 We both had a good nights sleep, after an early night. A retail day today. Stirred early and on our way at 9.30 am. Back across the river on the ferry and up to the Skytrain. First I added some money to our Rabbit cards and then a simple journey without changing to the last stop at National Stadium. A friend had previously given us a recommendation about MBK Mall and there are signs from the station, so easy to find. It is seven floors of shopping. We arrived at 10.30 am and did every floor leaving at 4.00 pm. We had refreshments occasionally to give us a break. We made some purchases, nothing of particular note but good value. Our journey back was easy and we were in the room at ... read more

Sunday 24 February, 2018 Woke about 8.30 am. This morning we were due to change rooms, at the hotel's request. We got our coffees and started putting things in bags to move four villas down to number 3. At about 11 am Nadege came to the room and said the other villa would be ready in 10 minutes. Shortly after we noticed a small green snake climbing along the roof and heading down the rope into the hammock. We don't have a problem with snakes, at home we know which is which. Here they are unknown to us. So I popped to see Nadege who came back to the villa and said it was a coconut snake and harmless. So, we moved the stuff with a bit of toing and froing, to a better villa as ... read more

Wednesday 21 February 2018 Our last full day in Aonang. Weather hot and sunny. An easy day today. We left the room at 10.45 am and headed up the coast. We watched the world go by at the port area for a while. We have been very patiently waiting and watching for someone to fall in the water as they get in or out of a boat, but sadly it hasn't happened. So, after being disappointed again, we walked along the beach and headed to one of the posh bars for a drink. A small Chang and a pineapple juice. Then back along the front to Anchor Blue for a drink and some lunch. Thai food today. All very nice. Then returned to the room for 2.15 pm. Pat packed and I gave moral support. After ... read more

Saturday 17 February 2018 A good nights sleep. Weather hot and sunny. After chatting we decided on a beach day today. At 11.00 am we left the room. A stroll up to the coast to see what was happening with the boats, then along to find a place on the beach. All very busy, but we squeezed into a spot in the shade. Turned out to be a good place which kept the sun off us most of the day. I had a passion fruit and ice drink, Pat had a Chang beer. We popped in and out of the water. We had sandwiches and drinks at the beach cafe behind for lunch and eventually left at 2.30 pm and sauntered back. A quiet afternoon and we were hungry, leaving the room about 7 pm, we ... read more

Monday 12 February 2018 Weather hot and hazy. Woke about 9 am. Left the room about 11 am and strolled to the port area to people watch for a while. Then off for some beach time. We went to the end of the Aonang beach to our usual place. Lots of people here, with the beach bars behind and vendors selling drinks and various foods on the beach. We did the usual of cooling off now and again in the water, but after a couple of hours decided to finish. On the way back we both had sandwiches in Cafe 8.98 for our lunch. Back to the room for 2.30 pm and a quiet afternoon. Around 7 pm we strolled out and went people watching. The ladyboys were in the street and Pat wanted a picture, ... read more

Thursday 8 February, 2018. Weather hot and sunny. Slept ok. Our plan today was to visit Krabi by local bus. We left the room about 1045 and dropped off some laundry next door. The bus stop was opposite (or so we thought) and we waited for a little while, a bus came along but the driver told us we had to wait on the other side. So over the road we went and only waited a couple of minutes before our bus came. It turns out the bus goes up to the coast and around, which we didn't know. The bus by the way is basically padded seats in the back of a truck and a roof. The journey seemed to take a while and go all over the place, but eventually we were dropped off ... read more

Friday 2 February 2018 We had awoken earlyish after our recovery nights sleep. A slow start to the day was in order. Pat sorted out our stuff, the UK heavy clothing certainly not required for the time being. We eventually left the room for an explore about 1100. First stop, Starbucks for coffee. Weather sunny and hot. We ambled along, looking at shops and people watching. Up to the coast, stopped for more drinks. Purchased an Aonang hat. Lunch was at an Indian / Thai restaurant looking out to sea. Pat had the Pad Thai and asked for not spicy, I ordered Thai Green curry. Pat's came spicier than she likes, but not strong enough to not eat it. Mine broke through my sore throat and was excellent. Our pace was definitely slow today, but it ... read more
