Well, not quite. Day of departure is still quite a few 'sleeps' away. (Learnt that term from someone's blog and quite like it. Not that falling asleep is getting any easier as my stomach tends to get quite fluttery when I lie in bed and think of all the things to come.) But on July 11th I will turn my back on good old Germany and start my year off. Kenya, Tanzania .... all the way down to Cape Town, then Perth to - one way or the other - Sydney, or rather Mudgee (!!) to visit a good friend of mine. End of October it's on to Hanoi, up into the mountains, then southbound through the hinterlands to Saigon and the Mekong Delta. Cambodia and Laos will follow. Then it's home for Christmas. After Mass this morning at the main parish church in Bruchsal, we went to Speyer to see the diocesan cathedral, which is the largest Romanesque church in the world. This is the burial ground of kings and emperors. Dedicated to Our Lady, the floor of the center aisle bears the four inscriptions "O clemens" (O Clement), "O pia" (O Loving), "O dulcis" (O Sweet) "Virgo Maria" (Virgin Mary). These are from the final invocations of the well-loved Marian hymn "Salve Regina." After visiting the cathedral treasury several a couple blocks away from the church itself, we had a very filling lunch of bratwurst and sauerkraut and saw some other sites in the town, including a lovely parish church. After leaving Speyer, we toured the palace in Bruchsal, Constantin's hometown. The palace was over 90% destroyed during ... read more

This is what I like to call a cheater entry. Right now, let's pretend I'm not sitting in a hostel which is located in the middle of a forrest on the edge of Berlin, but instead inside a cute little apartment in the fairytale city of Prague. A fairytale city, peppered with communism and a rather violent history. Before I forget I get too ahead of myself, I would like to tell you that homeless people in Munich can be extra special. Even now, a long while after leaving Munich, we are still talking about a woman who was sitting outside the train station when we were saying goodbye to Jessi. She was crouched in a ball, while we waiting for Jessi's carpool/organized hitchhiking ride to arrive, we were standing in a circle talking, when from ... read more

Greetings to all! First post in quite some time. Quite frankly, there has been little to report. The second semester of school was very busy and challenging leaving little time for travel, fun and games. However, the semester ended this past week and it was certainly time to go on a bit of a holiday. Conveniently, my birthday was Thursday of this past week so that provided additional insentive. My flatmate and I found very reasonable airfare to Berlin and so took advantage of an escape to central Europe. We arrived in Berlin on Thursday afternoon and after making our way via bus and train to our hostel, began venturing about the city. In our first afternoon we saw the Berlin Dom as well as the Brandenberg Gate and the Reichstag. I have to say that ... read more

Dear Blog My hostel in Berlin is in the middle of a forest. There are wild boars in said forest. It's awesome! I drank desperados tonight. With a side order of pistachio nuts. Met a boy from Canada who moved to Germany for a girl...there is a god, boys that follow their heart do exist! I think Berlin and I are going to have a love affair. I'm digging this city! Love Anna... read more

Hello Everyone!!! Wow I only have 3 days left if you don't count the day I leave. I can't believe it is almost over. I met 2 girls from Australia and hung out with them the whole time I was in Berlin. Last night we were having some beers and they were like stay another night in Berlin! So I did. It has been a blast hanging out with girls that I feel like I have known for such a long time. I did mess up my ankle and I haven't been able to walk as much as I have in other cities. I think in Munich I am just going to relax and not do much. It has been super hot here. Here is a sum up of all I saw in Berlin: I went ... read more

Back in Germany, but this time - Munich... The city of Monks... I think in my past life, I was from Munich. Nothing else explains my passion for beer, skiing and bike riding. This blog is going to be short and sweet... The german keyboards are hard to type on, im hungry, we leave tomorrow, and there is a beer garden within 5 minutes walk from here. Thursday We arrived in Munich at 6am after an over-night train ride from Budapest, it was a cramped up sleeper with two beds that i only just fit into. I found it hard to sleep on the train. It was very bumpy and noisy, but we made it. Since we had the whole day ahead of us, we decided to go to the Dacau Concentration Camp. It was the ... read more

Helloooo!!! I have finally managed to get onto a computer here. It took me ages to organise a time where I could get an internet card & write my first message from another country! Well, it's been a busy week with drills, inductions, getting lost etc etc. The first day was a bit of a blur with all the info I had to take in. I was given what has to be the hardest 'crew station position' ever! We all have one on board & have to go to it before going to the muster stations where all the passengers would gather in an emergancy. I got lost of course & walked the ship 5 times, & even then officers who tried to help me didn't know where it was! Needless to say my friend Vinnie ... read more
