We arrived at the Wittlich train station and I fimilled the greetings of the Brothers. Dad meeting Oma was very sweet and she is very old and frail but very nice and slow and easy to understand. THat afternoon we went swimming and the Girls Anna and Julia tried to introduce german things to me. We stayed at Omas and everything was the same as always. All the streets in Wittlich were very deserted and there was hardly anybody there. The shops where ether shut down different or very expensive because of the loss of customers. Within an hour or two of being on the road we were in Germany surrounded by hills and forests which were missing in The Netherlands. We had programmed in the address of an old friend Deborah from NZ who lived near Bonn. Unfortunately we programmed the wrong Gruenerweg so ended up in the wrong place! Never mind, we were only about 7km out and found it easily the second time. Deborah has a lovely place surrounded by forest and field and we had a great time over the next day and night walking through the forest and catching up. We hadn’t seen each other for about 18 years but apart from the obvious maturing over the years it was just like old times. We would have liked to stay longer but we needed to catch up ... read more

Yesterday right after class ended I went with a group of girls to Trier, Germany. It is right near the border and it was only 6 Euros round trip ticket! (We have Jumbo cards that allows us to not have to pay for a train/bus ticket ever in Luxembourg). Trier was a huge shopping place (even my host mom said so). Its all cute shops along the cobblestone side walks and open areas with people everywhere. The Germans dress a lot more like we do as in the women wear jeans and not skirts and black tights like the French. I find this much more practical since it is the middle of winter and all. Anyway, I think we fit in much better here than anywhere else we've been so far (which, I know, isn't many ... read more

Alrighty, I hsvent been on here in a while, and I know its an excuse but I have been busy looking for work every morning, and then evvery afternoon going t german class. I have done three weeks of german class, and it is really difficult, I am doing ok, and now when I hear someone speaking german it doesnt just sound like a mummbling frog going through a blender. I can actually hear each word and can even translate some of the words, unfortunatly unless it is a really basic sentence spoken slowly, I cant quite translate the sentence yet, but, there is still time. Now on the searching for work, I have had a fair bit of trouble due to my minimal german sprache. But finally, after about 50 emails to truck and bus ... read more
