Hi everyone! We're still around, now lounging in Bad Bertrich, a beautiful little spa town where we're studying with John Perry. Unfortunately, our internet access is VERY limited here, so our updates about our little sejours in Geneva, Gipf-Oberfrick, and our time so far in Bad Bertrich will have to wait until we have some spare time to update. For now, we're too busy practicing and bathing in the thermal spas...! CC MR... read more

I'm going to try to keep this short, because we are in the middle of mid-terms and I have tons of work to do, but I have alot to tell. So, this past weekend we went on a 3 day excursion through German wine country. I enjoyed it alot, because it was much more laid back and relaxing, and thw weather was much better. What was not better, however, was our transportation. Our bus driver was basically insane. He drove like a nutjob, and I was constantly fearing for my life. Also, to top it all off, our bus was not exactly the fines piece of machinery either. It broke dow twice, and some of the guys (including myself) had to push it to get it to start. I guess their standards are a little more ... read more

(Please note that the comma between drinking and driving indicates that we did these activities at separate times; my aren't we clever) Driving codes and conduct vary widely from country to country, as does the training required to recieve ones licence. In most of Europe people must take extensive and expensive driving courses which involve learning defensive driving techniques, and hours of in car testing. Some people spend years training to recieve their licence... In Saskatchewan on the other hand, when highschool students turn 15 they take a short after school course that is supposed to teach them how to be a good driver without actually putting them behind the wheel. Those lucky enough to log two hours in a car with underqualified instructors, usually only recieve emotional scars. Nightmares of Mr Boida screaming at me ... read more

I must say, I am very impressed with Germany. It's very clean, beautiful, the people are friendly and the culture is strong. At least, Munich and the countryside.... I woke up to the soothing Landscheid church bells outside of the house. They chime about 3 or 4 times a day. It was also a beautiful day. We slowly got up and gathered downstairs for coffee and breakfast and of course chatting. They have the AFN (Air Force) Network here, so they get American TV shows, but what is a little interesting is that every commercial has to do with the Air Force. It is a little shocking, some of the ads. Around noon, we decided to go for a walk/hike down one of the farm roads into the countryside and forest. It was perfect. Very quiet ... read more

We woke up around to 530am to drive to Frankfurt. What a foggy and dark morning. We got to Frankfurt in about 2 1/2 hours and dropped off Carrrie for her journey back to Idaho. Fun Times Carrie! Happy Early Birthday! Colleen and I then drove straight back to Landscheid since she had to go to work at noon. Colleen teaches Pilates on the Spangdahlem Air Base so I tagged along for her class! We rested for a quick second back at the house and then on to the base! It's really close to them, about a 5 min drive. After checking in and getting a day pass, we realized that it was pretty quiet around the base. We went to the gym to warm up before class and found out that it's an Air Force ... read more

What a wonderful nights sleep @ Hotel Europa! Before we crashed, we did watch some German TV. It was like the first time I had watched TV in like 3 weeks. Actually, I did see some German MTV at the piza place a few days ago. It was funny. Anyways, we watched some soaps. They did have BBC too. Woke up to a nice beautiful day in Munich. Went downstairs and had a great breakfast buffet. I grubbed. From there, I wanted to head back towards the train station to get some souvenirs. Oktoberfest shirts and stuff like that were only 9 Euro, compared to 15 - 20 Euro at Oktoberfest. While driving down there, we ran into major crowds. It was Saturday morning, so everyone and their momma was going to Oktoberfest. It ends on ... read more

We had a four day weekend this weekend but Matt ended up having to work Saturday and Sunday, right in the middle of it, so it kind of ruined our chances of going anyplace outside of Germany. So, we decided to take advantage of the day off and go on a day trip. Trier is near the French border and has changed hands between Germany and France many times throughout history. It also has, I believe, the most Roman ruins of any town in Germany. Trier is a small town but makes a great day trip and is fun to walk around. Porta Nigra (Latin for 'Black Gate') gets its name because of the pollution that has turned the stones black over time. It's a 2nd century Roman gate and the stones are only held together ... read more

We have always wanted to visit the Mosselle valley. Since we are from Belgium, it is not too far from where we live. The culture and environment are completely different from the one we are used to at home. Sounds ideal for a short break with kids. So off we went! Glad to say we were not disappointed. The Mosselle valley is a very beautiful environment to visit. I have the feeling that many Belgians underestimate this. We visited a number of villages and towns in the Moselle valley. Many impressed us because of their beauty. These trips had another thing in common, namely the fact that we tasted several times the delicious riesling wine. Needless to say we bought some riesling wine for back home...... read more

Here is the text that you have already read but here are some pics to go along with it. I will post Heidelberg and Switzerland pics soon!!! Love an miss you guys!! Trier was about a 3 hour train ride from Neubruke. We got there at about 11:30 on Saturday morning. The first thing we saw was a huge foot and we continued to see these feet throughout Trier. I think it was supposed to be a replica of a foot that used to be on a huge statue of Constantine a long time ago. Jules and I licked the toes of one of them. We also saw a site called the Porta Nigra. Trier used to be a completely walled city and the Porta Nigra was the main gate into it. Then we went to ... read more
