Central America Caribbean December 28th 2005

Hello, me AGAIN, ok so I have given up on Andrew adding to this thing, he is looking at cricket scores and we just found out Kerry Packer died. Anyway, Nicaragua is great. Here´s the rundown of the past few days... Xmas Day afternoon - Ziplining through and above the canopy and Monteverde. There were about 16 lines which you connect yourself to via a harness and cables. Then you are flung out at high speed at about 200m above the ground. We also did some rapelling (sic, no idea how to spell). My favourite was the tarzan swing, actually tied to a tree, where you free fall from a high tower for about 15 metres. It was really really REALLY fun. Boxing Day - we crossed the border into Nicaragua- a hot, dusty, long, boring ... read more

Running aground is a great way to meet the locals. My alarm beeped at 6:00. I snoozed for ten. Then, I woke everyone else up. We pulled out after a prolonged breakfast, closer to 7:30 than the 7:00 we had planned. Doing so required a 180 degree maneuver, all the while clearing the other boats in the dock. We had discussed the operation the night before and , given the low amount of wind on this morning, decided that we should swing the stern around with the bow still at the dock, and then throttle away. Sounds easy. Somehow in doing so, the boat began drifting towards other expensive yachts and in order to compensate, the captain motored ahead... into the dock. I was standing on the bow pushing with all my might against the ... read more

Errr, October 13th? So first its two weeks, then four and now, well who would ever have predicted this, eh? Perhaps its time to start thinking about making lots of New Year’s resolutions I’ve no intention of ever keeping. I managed to leave my diary somewhere in Antigua so I've given up on that one. Means I can hardly remember what I've been up to though so I'd best start making things up.... NOW! So after all of Mexico - or at least the 3% or so that I must have seen - I had to take a boat and a couple of buses to make my way into Guatemala. Here's a beautiful but poor country with an unimaginably turbulent past, culminating in some 36 years of civil war (which only ended with 1996’s peace accords) ... read more

We spent this beautiful day diving. Although we don't have any underwater pictures, the scenery from the water is beautiful. We went on the Habitat dive boat and got a great view of Curacao's south-western coast. All the dive sites were within 30 minutes of Habitat. ... read more

When you get this dance down, your officially a Belizean. Check out these punta video links to the left:::::::: Me and my girls went to a dance at a place called the Garden of Eatin' a little pass where the buses come for pickup. It was cool, many youngsters though. But it was nice to watch everyone dance this dance in unison. It's as if everyone gets into a punta trance and it becomes hypnotic. It's crazy. Any how... Me and Y were ready to go to sleep by 10pm, and when Belizeans party, they don't get there till 1am or 2am and don't leave until 6am.....I'm not the one, Good nig... read more

Never a dull moment...last week we made our first visit to a Costa Rican dentist to have our teeth cleaned. They don´t do it the same way as in the States--apparently it´s the same as in Italy. They clean them by using a tiny drill that shoots water between your teeth--kind of like a deep pressure cleaning. It worked fine, but I was soaking wet by the time it was over--but the best part is it was only $16.00 each. A few days later I ended up with a UTI and had to make a trip to the doctor. It´s so bizarre here. There is never a wait at the doctor´s office. You walk into a clinic and a doctor sees you within a minute. They have labs there also, so they can run tests and ... read more

We've spent a little too much time here at Old Bahama Bay Marina, idling amongst the wealthy. The rest was welcome from the rough crossing, but the only thing to do here is while away dollars and show off your diamonds and your $1.50 boobjob. The locals can barely hide their smirk in the face of it all; they can play this game. They even have a patois so that the USers don't understand. These are the weekend jetsetters from Florida escaping their family and financial problems just to show off their motorcraft's widescreen TV during the Packers-Cowboys game. No worries, they'll head back in the other direction soon enough. As for us we're headed up through shallow waters to a few cays, where we'll anchor for a night, and then on to more cays with ... read more

After scheduling a dive for later in the afternoon, we went to explore the northern coast at National Park Shete Boka. It was about a 20 minute drive in our clown car through 2-lane unmarked roads. The scenery was beautiful, but arid. It was odd not seeing any fresh water - almost like being in the US Southwest. ... read more

Flying In to North Eleuthera So close yet so far, we flew down to FLL which was nuts and finally got into this rattle trap. The family took up half the airplane. But if anyone ever needed a beach vacation, we did, look at those mugs. The only way to get into Harbour Island, in many ways as exclusive as St. Barths, is via plane to North Eleuthera followed by a ferry ride to Harbour Island which sits 2 miles across the bay. Harbour Island & Dumore Town Forget Nassau, Freeport, Paradise Island, Coco Key, and any of the other cruise ship islands. If you want to see some great islands, go to the other Bahamanian islands. You truly feel some of the old English colonial spirit and there are not the cruise ship loads coming ... read more

Mijn laatste week Spaans is aangebroken.
