Came back to the gift shop to finish our entries for you guys. Hope you like them....they cost 1000 colones for every half hour! Ok, so back to Tues nite and dinner. So we ate at this place...a local establishment..."Angles", which was situated on the main drag here in town....and in the back yard were the nino's playing, and with the eldest in the kitchen cooking(she was all of 14). Presumably the father was our waiter who spoke VERY little english....THANK GOD for peter! He is truly amazing with his language skills. We were one of 3 tables being served...the first were two fishermen and their costa rican guide, there was us and then, there was this odd man that walked in and first spoke spanish to the father...then, made a phone call on his cell ... read more

We crossed the border into Guatemala without incident and were faced with our first collectivo ride to the village of El Remate on Lake Peten Itza. Collectivos are cheap alternatives to buses used by the locals, basically a mini van crammed full of at least 20 people or more where often the doors are left open for maximum capacity. The lake was stunningly surrounded by jungle covered mountains with white horses grazing by the lake's edge giving the place a magical feel. Accomodation is dotted around the lake with the place we had decided to stay being a 2km walk with backpacks in the midday sun. The walk was well worth it though, with the hostel providing one of the nicest dormitories you would ever want to see. Attic style thatched cabanas with a large hole ... read more

Life is all well in these parts... We now have had 2 days of straights sunshine, which I understand does not happen that often here this time of year. We took out a boat and cruised over to 2 other islands yesterday, we packed this canoe-type boat full of 12 people and just motored around, it was nice. When we got into town we ran into everybody from Costa Rica that we had hung out with, our group of about 15 people. It was awesome to see everybody again and hang out as a group! Today, we took a boat over the Isla Bastimientos, an island not far from here with no cars on it. We got dropped off at a deserted beach that happens to be the set for "Survivor: Panama". It was pretty wild, ... read more

wow. all the buildings are pink here. it looks like the energizer bunny threw up everywhere!! We set sail on thursday for Puerto Rico and the journey begins. I started my malaria pills and already the vivid dreams have begun. If you've ever had a dream that seemed so real, multiply it times 100. I've never been afraid to sleep before. Mostly there just dreams filled with anxiety and nausea...hmmm. I wonder why. Could I be a little excited/ nervous? No, not Liz :) Funny enough, i had met a girl named Kerry from Doylestown before I left and we ended up sitting next to each other on the plane. Life is weird and unpredictable. Everything is buzzing with excitement as our ship is sitting in port.. it's not exactly lacking in size, either! Boarding the ... read more

Since I've been here we have had all sorts of weather. Today it rained a little, it's been overcast, really windy and my favorite sunny! Yesterday I went swimming with dolphins! It was so much fun. We took a boat to a small private island to a dolphin conservatory. This was a gift to me from my grandparents and aunt/uncle-thanks guys!!!! :) I was in a group with about ten other people and we each got to kiss, hug, dance with a dolphin and have them jump over us. The best part was when the dolphins pushed us by our feet across the water at 25 mph! It was like I was flying across the water. It was a really great experience, one I won 't forget! Tomorrow the ship leaves! I'm getting really excited ... read more

iiBuenos Dias familia, amigas y amigos!! Well, I finally got here and have had a week and a half to look around and see what's up. Saw some service sites, went up north to an all-inclusive resort, didn't get a sunburn. Also, made friends with Creighton kids, they all seem nice, and they all like me a lot. Missing the family and SLU community quite a bit. I keep thinking of things to say to you guys, or jokes only y'all would laugh at, and nope, some don't go over that well down here, particularly the crude jokes. Creighton girls don't think those are funny. I've got almost everything in line except for a loan that's supposed to come in from SLU, and I don't remember too much Spanish, so that kind of sucks. I expect ... read more

Nicaragua: Leon - Guatemala: Monterrico, Pacaya, Semuc Champey, Rio Dulce, Tikal- Honduras: Utila - Mexico: Tulum, Playa del Carmen My big cruise North towards flying home made me border hop some more and gave me the chance to visit missed parts and missed people. Summed up: I stayed at Bigfoot Hostel in Leon, which was great. The owner was lovely and took us to the beach where he was building hostel number 2. Swimming relaxing and looking at a volcano starting to smoke from the beach. Leon is a gorgeous place with a favourite: a homeless mute boy, I shared 2 meals with him and he enjoyed looking at pictures in the Lonely Planet. From here I took a bus cruising through Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador into Guate. Visiting my long time Dutch friend who was ... read more

We started bright and early again today. 5:45 breakfast was served, egg and bacon ommelette with coffee and juice that they call orange but can't be real orange juice. Julie delivered the devotion and we all listened from the front porch. We were in the bus and on the road by 7:00. The drive was long and long. Paved roads into the mountains for a ways and then it turned into a smooth dirt road that carried us high into the mountains and accross frighteningly scary skinny patches of roadway. The smoothness soon went away and the road turned into a constant bouncy, swaying, nausiating ride. The views were breath taking and well worth the rough rode. We bounced around holding on for dear life for about two hours through no mans land occasionaly passing a ... read more

Hello! Andrew is too drunk to contribute and he is swirling on an office chair with an orange and vodka in his hand and he also has a whole pineapple on his lap. We are in a strange bar / internet / TV lounge / chess club in San Ignacio. Jan 14th 06 We were up at 4:30am to catch a 5am bus to the Tikal ruins, one of the largest and most famous ruin sites in Cent. America. It is different from the other ruin sites because it is in the jungle, and while you walk around the ruins you see lots of beautiful birds and hear howler monkeys. The main word to describe Tikal is BIG - the temples are BIG, there are LOTS of them (over 4000 structures), and they are spread out ... read more

(one day) Het schooltje is erg klein (3 andere studenten, niet direct mijn type mensen). Mijn familie is aardig (hoewel ... read more
