It’s been a fairly quiet week here at Angel Valley Farm Bed & Breakfast. Well, not perfectly quiet. This past week has seen to brought many cows, calves and bulls in our yard! One more, we were awakened early by the bloodly loud sounds of Osita and Reina yelping at the top of their lungs. From my window, I couldn’t tell what they were barking at, but later on, we discovered a bull had gotten loose and came right into our side yard, most likely to feed on the various vegetation growing there. Later in the week, in full view of our guests sitting outside on the patio, we had a whole parade of cows, calves and bulls streaming up our driveway—they apparently got loose from their pen down the road. This happened several times this ... read more

01/15/06 ***some of these photos are really of day 3. I would take the time to correct the photos to their proper day but it I don't have the time....ATW This morning breakfast was around eight. Esmeralda and the rest of the team were there when I got into the room. I ate light, a banana, toast with fresh local honey, and a cup el café. Afterwards we had a devotional time of music and song. I played guitar and we sang as a group a couple of hymns and other praise songs. Then there was a reading from Genesis, the first few verses about God’s creation of time. It was related to our time here working and living in Honduras. The time we give of ourselves to work for the good and the spiritual and ... read more

I finished my last article a little puzzled about the attitude of many a traveller with some more thought, and help from a book, I have come up with a way to shed a bit of light of this. A few defintions and terms are necessary first. I´m going to borrow the terms from Zen and the Art of Motorcycle maintenance. A simplistic breaking down of human understanding gives two types: Classical and Romantic. Classical being ´primarily one of underlying form´, this basically means seeing things as part of structure where logic rules and things are restricted. And with Romantic being ´primarily in terms of apperance´ which is a little more self-explanatory. Both schools of thought suffer from similar problems and this can be seen when pretentiousness is considered. Classical Pretentiousness to the other school: Here ... read more

Hello again from San Juan del Sur, We were able to watch the playoff games yesterday and Terry is watching again today. How about those Broncos, and how about the interception by Champ Bailey. I am not much of a football fan, however, that play was really fun to watch, and then we got to watch it over and over and over again. Everyone at Big Wave Daves, the gringo bar we watched from, is still talking about it today. It has been real interesting meeting other travelers at the bar and hearing their travel stories. San Juan del Sur is a real tourist town, travelers from all over the world. We hear many different languages spoken here. And like most resort towns, it is a party town. We went dancing at the Disco last night. ... read more

Hi everyone!!! Well I made it to to Nassau last night, it was a L O N G travel day. We are staying at the Atlantis hotel, it is the Disneyland of all hotels. The place is huge, there are many different swimming pools and slides all over. They also hava many pools with all sorts of animals in them. There are sharks, sea turtles, sting ray's and tons of fish. There is this one water slide where part of it goes under water and the tube is clear so you can see through. It goes under the pool that has the sharks in it!! It is really cool. So far we have just been laying around the pool and relaxing- I know pretty tough... :) I am getting really excited and ready to leave on ... read more

I woke up this morning to constant, heavy rain. Clouds as far as the eye can see...not too happy about that. I decided to make the most of the weather and head on down to Bocas del Toro, Panama-why waste a rainy day just sitting around when I can sit on a bus and a plane and be going somewhere? I met up with 4 other people who are going with me, we are getting a bus to the border, and we found an 11 dollar plane ticket from there to the islands. My hope is that I will be at a bar with a beer in my hand in time to see the second half of the Panthers game. I figure I will stay in the islands for roughly a week before heading back up ... read more

Well we finally have a break from our Spanish school. What a great time we have been having. we study each morning and have activities in the afternoon. Our knowledge of Spanish is progressing quite rapidly. For our afternoon activities we have been taken on several hikes, two excursions to some remote beaches, cooking lessons, and my personal favorite, dance classes. Me gusta bailar (I like to dance). We danced salsa, marenge (sp), and palo de mayo, which is the maypole dance from the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua. Tonight we will go to the local disco and try out our new dance steps. It will be a beautiful full moon night and the disco is right on the beach, perhaps we will take a dip in the ocean under the full moon to cool us off ... read more

For the first time in a long time I actually sat next to strangers on a plane flight that were interesting. Gayle and Scott from Nebraska were next to me from Dallas to Guatemala City and the three-hour flight flew by (no pun intended). They were the exact opposite to me - conservatives from the mid-west who were very religious and home schooled their children. We had a great time discussing American foreign policy and the problems facing the USA. We decided it was mainly high fructose corn syrup. Surprisingly, we were in agreement on a lot of issues and they invited me to call on them next time I happened upon the mid-west. Scott was heading down to Guatemala for knee surgery as it was too expensive to do it in the USA as he ... read more

Hola Familia y amigas, I don't actually start my Spanish classes until Monday but it never hurts to start practicing. Actually, I've been getting a lot of practice this week as I've had some wonderful visits with Delta Kappa Gamma ( DKG) members here in San Jose. What is DKG you say? First, I'll tell you what it isn't. It isn't a sorority. It is a 75 year old honor society for key women educators with over 140,000 members. I was honored to be invited to join 25 years ago. It has been a very important part of my life. DKG is an International society with chapters in 14 foreign countries. I have held many offices and now serve on one of the International Commitees- Travel and Study. When I first started studying Spanish, Dr. Maria ... read more
