I am including this photo for my mother. Our school is just down the block from here in another old wooden building. There are not many wooden buildings in town as they were wiped out by a tsunami in 1997(?) or thereabouts. The people we are staying with lost their home in the tsunami. Remarkably only one life was lost. The buildings are constructed of concrete and steel now.
Hello again from San Juan del Sur,

We were able to watch the playoff games yesterday and Terry is watching again today. How about those Broncos, and how about the interception by Champ Bailey. I am not much of a football fan, however, that play was really fun to watch, and then we got to watch it over and over and over again. Everyone at Big Wave Daves, the gringo bar we watched from, is still talking about it today. It has been real interesting meeting other travelers at the bar and hearing their travel stories.

San Juan del Sur is a real tourist town, travelers from all over the world. We hear many different languages spoken here. And like most resort towns, it is a party town. We went dancing at the Disco last night. It was packed and we danced and danced and danced. The Nicas can really dance. After our dance lessons, we were dancing just like the locals, what great fun we had, stayed out till the wee hours of the morning. Not bad for a couple of old folks. We probably had some of the kids laughing at us. The dance floor is open

This is a photo from taken from an observation point overlooking the town San Juan del Sur. We walked by many casa grandes to get there. The hill we climbed is littered with oversized homes, just like the resort towns at home, and what beautiful views they have. The coast line here is really nice with rolling hills and secluded beaches.
air and right on the beach. We had a good rain early in the evening then the skies cleared and the full moon came out. It was so beautiful. When we overheated from dancing we just walked down to the water to cool off. I could live like this.

We have really been pestered by mosquitos for the last two days, it has been real humid, most likely the reason for the pests. It is quite windy this time of year down on the Pacific. I wonder how those mosquitos can fly in the breeze. They are the smallest mosquitos I have ever seen.

My only other complaint is the food. They eat so much fried food down here and they use a lot of sugar. I am getting tired of fried chicken, even though the chicken here is much better than the factory raised chicken we have in the States. Red beans and rice are served with every meal. I have not had any good seafood yet, a little tuna, is all so far. We did find a nice mediterranean restaurant and had a nice fish filet there. I miss fresh vegetables, however, I am really enjoying

This Asian man entertained us all on his kazoo at open mic nite at Iguanas Bar. We met several other travelers from Colorado there that evening, even a couple from Fruita. They tell us a good many of the tourists from the states that visit San Juan del Sur come from Colorado. No doubt, like us, they are escaping the winter
the fresh melons and bananas.

Well it is time for me to go take a stroll on the beach. The beach is very busy on Sundays as most Nicas do not work on Sunday they like to play on the beach. There are vendors selling jewelry and pottery. The people watching is great on Sundays. The rest of the week the beach is rather quiet, only a few tourists for the most part. Terry will be in the bar watching the ball games all day, way too boring for me.

Speaking of boring, I'll quit boring you all with my idle chat. Here are a few more photos for your enjoyment.

Until my next posting,

Love Kathy

This young monkey was playing in the tree while his mother watched from nearby. They didn't seem to mind our presence, and luckily didn't throw things at us, like feces, as they are known to do.

The horses here are much smaller and skinnier than the horses back home. Look at the simple saddle on this horse.
