This list was compiled by Sarah and I last night. I copied and pasted it from her blog. Enjoy. #1. Stray Dogs are not uncommon. #2. We are told stray children are about as common as stray dogs. If you feed them, they will not leave you alone. #3. Things like "Hey white girls, we love you!" are heard on a regular basis. #4. When you go to a soccer game and chant "Hon-du-ras!", you will be made fun of for pronouncing the 'H'. It should be pronounced "Own-doo-rus". #5. Wearing a Honduras jersey to a game will not make you Honduran. You will still stick out. #6. Crowds of people will cheer "Asshole" in Spanish to a ref who has made a bad call. #7. People who pull out their cell phone when you walk ... read more

Yes, you read that correctly. There is exactly one micro brewery in Honduras and I choose there to go for my first weekend trip. Go figure. It's called the D and D brewery and is owned by and ex-pat named Bob from Oregon. It is quite close to paridise. After being told it was quite difficult to get to, three busses later we were in front of a sign with an arrow pointing us to the D and D. Upon reaching the hostel we walked down a sheltered stairway onto a pool surrounded by covered areas with tables and chairs for dining on American grub while drinking apricot ales. Jeff, Jill and I got a few rooms and headed to get some brews. We drank and played cards till it was time for bed. Next day ... read more

A Quick Note Regarding Pictures (or the lack thereof) Our hostel in San Jose rocks! It it huge... it has a swimming pool... a roof top bar/restaurant... and tons of computers with FREE internet. However, the internet is a bit to slow to load pictures. So, we gave up. Sorry about that. We'll post pictures for our Puerto Viejo, Puerto Limon, and Tortuguero entries this coming Monday or Tuesday evening when we are back in the land of COX High Speed Digital Cable. Sigh. I never thought we'd actually be glad to see COX. See you all soon! Intro to Tortuguero North of Puerto Limon, on a tiny slip of land between Tortuguero Canal and the Caribbean is the little village of Tortuguero, pleasantly situated on the northern tip of Parque Nacional Tortuguero in northeastern Costa ... read more

More planning and decorating at school today. However, it was what we did after school that made my day. Sarah and I decided to accompany Chris to the bank in the mall near the school. We had seen an ice cream "shop" last time we were there but no one was working then. This time, however, we were in luck. I had peanut butter/caramel/chocolate ice cream scooped the way they do back home. It was heaven, although half of it melted on the way home. In other noteworthy happenings for the day, we heard knocking on our door at around 8pm and when Toni (our security guard) opened the door it was the little lady that lived down the street. "Estan las muchachas?" she said. "Are the girls home?" Toni looked confused as to what she ... read more

It’s hard to believe we’ve already spent 3 weeks in beautiful St. Lucia! Our time in St. Lucia is rapidly drawing to a close. We’ll be leaving on Saturday for St. Kitts, our home for the next two years. They gave us our ‘island assignments’ on Monday, and tomorrow we’ll find out flight details…we’re all hoping that the no carry-on restrictions in Europe aren’t in effect here, because when packing for two years one takes full advantage of the one carry-on and one personal item rule!  It’s hard to even think now what to write about, as it has been so long since we’ve had a chance. So many times I’ve thought of things I wanted to type for the website…if only I could bring them all back to mind now! We’re staying with a ... read more

Much of the same today with school stuff. Chris and I got our annual plans done, so now I can start planning my weekly/daily plans. I am over halfway done decorations in the classroom too. Everything is well on it's way. Hmmm... exciting things of this week.... let's see. Yesterday I went to thr grocery store by myself, bought all sorts of food and then took a taxi home. I was able to tell him where I lived by giving the directions left, right, and straight in Spanish. I was very pleased with myself. All sorts of interesting things getting into our houses at night. Lastnight we had a giant beetle thing that kept flying at Jenna, Kari, and I. It was gross. Today it was a giant toad. Like a BIG toad hoping around in ... read more

To say Its been a rough couple of days to would be an understatement, ever since we arrived in Nicaragua we have drank, ALOT. Its so cheap here, even cheaper then in Honduras. Really haven't d one to much in the last few days. got here in Granada after a really easy few hours of traveling in a compact mini van and communicating with a Nica couple as the wife breast fed her baby, pretty weird. Checked into a hostel that let us put all of our drinks food misc on a tab so it got pretty scary. We tried for the record but failed miserably!! After two days of drinking, watching Old School and Anchorman we decided to check out this really cool lake about 45 minutes away from Granada and was totally glad that ... read more

The past few days have been quite stressful, and definately eventful. In fact, I can pretty much sum up Wednesday as one of the most stressful and horrible days of my LIFE. Tho it was actually SO BAD that it just became humerous... After writing about our plans to go to Guatemala, we proceeded to go to the Ticabus station at 4am on Wednesday to get our 5am bus to El Salvador, then on to Guatemala City the next day. After a long wait in line, they looked at our passports, asked me what I had been doing heer for so long, and issued our tickets. Everything went well until we hit the border with Honduras: the bus attendees collected evryone´s apassport, and we each had to pay a US$7 exit fee. Except that because I ... read more
