Taas on yli viikko hurahtanut tosi nopeasti! Mitään ihmeitä ei oo tapahtunu, normaaleja päiviä vaan.. Käytiin viikko sitten Michellen kanssa rannalla. Ensin pitää mennä veneellä San Joseen, ja sieltä sitten kävellä joku 20min ni pääsee rannalle! Se on kyllä semmonen tosi kivinen ranta, ei oikein pysty makoilemaan siellä. San Josessa on joku luostari, jossa semmonen mies laulaa joka ilta. Mulle kerrottiin, että se saa laulaa siellä kuulema sen takia kun se on tosi sairas tai jotain.. Kamalalta se laulu kyllä kuulostaa! Yleensä se ei kuulu Muelleen asti, mutta jos on tosi tuulista ni sit se kuuluu ihan liian kovaa. Arturo ja Damien tuli tosiaan El Perusta takasin tänne sivistyksen pariin! Toissailtana oltiin Muellessa syömässä, Arturo ja Ana tekivät ruokaa (salaattia ja katkarapupastaa) ja mä ja Annie katettiin pöydät sitten valmiiksi. This is Sam, the social host’s, last cruise. She really wanted to do something fun. So we went on tour together today in Grand Cayman. We first visited the Turtle Farm. At the farm, they breed sea turtles. Since 1967, they’ve set something like 70,000 sea turtles into the wild - major numbers for these endangered animals. The farm also raises turtles to be sold as meat, a delicacy in some places. This really disturbs some people. While I have no desire to eat the meat, I think that if it helps them fund the breeding and freeing of the turtles, then why not. Ondanks dat ik het niet van plan was, heb ik toch besloten om jullie het een en ander te vertellen over hoe het me hier vergaat in de Dominicaanse Republiek! 27 april nam ik dus het vliegtuig vanuit Amsterdam naar de hoofdstad Santo Domingo. Daar werd ik opgehaald door Vicky, de projectleidster en vervolgens zijn we een paar dagen in de hoofdstad gebleven. Echt een andere wereld is het wel te noemen. Het doet me wel sterk aan Costa Rica denken maar het is hier duidelijk een stuk minder ontwikkeld. In Santo Domingo heb ik vooral de stad een beetje ontdekt en er was een festival met allerlei standjes waar we naartoe zijn geweest. Ook ben ik naar een concert geweest van een cubaanse zanger. The Bahamas are near to Florida and Cuba. They were originally inhabited by the Lucayan Indians when British Settlement began in 1647; the islands became a colony in 1783. Independence was obtained in 1973 and the country has become quite prosperous with tourism, international banking and investment being the main industries. The USA trade embargoes on Cuba have helped to increase tourism to the islands particularly the capital Nassau. Because of its position, it has also become a staging point for smuggling of drugs and illegal immigrants to both USA and Europe. A quick stroll around the capital will illustrate that there is a fair amount of prosperity but the main street of Nassau seems to be in recession since the man made ‘Paradise Island’ was opened to tourism. Good morning too everyone, from Haiti With now over five months under our belt here in Haiti.., we are doing great and all is well with us. Our living experiences keep growing and we are learning so much during our time here. We have had so many touching moments here, from being invited to soccer matches and watching the game sitting on the ground surrounded by so many young children that it would be hard to count them all. So many of them asking how to spell our names and asking us to describe what it is like where we come from, to even just wanting to touch you, or hold your hand or touching our hair (they are amazed that our hair is straight and silky, unlike theirs).
