Heelllooo everyone I have been living in Antigua for about a week now! Its pretty cool and i am having alot of fun. This past week has been extremely busy! I've had spanish lessons every morning from 8 to 12, then i get on a bus and go to Itzapa...a small town about 45 min away. Its truly incredible there...... im not sure how i can explains, except that is a poor town filled with the nicest people! The school im working at is a big "room" with 5 "classrooms". There are tin roofs covering portions of the area, which is like all the house there too. The desks are all plastic, and during breaks they kids all LOVE to skip, play with puzzles, and toss aroung a soccar ball. On Thursday we had sports day, ... read more

C’est époustouflant la végétation ici! Wow.

On our first weekend in Peten we visited the famous Maya ruins of Tikal. As we haven´t uploaded any pics yet and are always behind with the blog, here we go. Tikal were our first ruins and hence we were really impressed (in hindsight there are better ones to visit, but hey there was no way of knowing)! We took a minibus on Saturday afternoon to get there after 3:00 pm as this meant that the ticket of Saturday will be valid on Sunday too. As staying in Tikal is pricey we only could afford a hammock space, but this was good enough for us. On the next day, we had to give some money to be allowed to enter the park at 5:00 am to see the sun rise from Temple 4. For being ... read more

I'm having trouble coming up with titles for these things anymore, so forgive me. Alright after the island I came to San Juan Del Sur. I'd head from so many people that it is the biggest tourist destination in Nicaragua and super crowed with gringos, so I wasn't sure what I was going to think about it. So it was a nice little surprize when I get here, run into a friend I met in Granada who is living here, go to a bar on the beach and count 4 people in total on the beach! I knew I was going to like it here and am going on my my 5th day. It is a big surf town, though the beach here is not good for surfing as it is a horse shoe bay, ... read more

To maximize time we decided to suck it up and endure a 15 hour adventure that took us from Belize City across the border and then into Flores. At Flores we switched buses to an overnight bus that took us down to Guatamala city. I can´t say that it was a restful night of sleep, but we saved on accommodation for the night and got to where we needed to be. (The rough plan is to get south and work our way back up) They played a crappy Disney movie "The Princess Diaries" which i actually watched in its entirety. The only gem in the whole film came in a small piece of advice given from one character to another: "The brave may not live long, but the fearful don´t live at all." Little did ... read more

Since the rest of the vacation has begun to mesh together in my mind, I figured I would summarize it in one post: A few days before I left NY I checked the weather and was dismayed to see a 40% chance of rain each day for the entire trip. I told my mom expecting her to be equally upset, but she laughed at me. She told me that in the tropics there is always a 40% chance of rain but if it does rain it is usually only for a few minutes. True to her word, it didn't rain at all. Just one more reason not to trust the weather channel. We spent most of our time at the beach. I would have liked to have spent all of our time at Playa Flamenco, ... read more

I guess you can say that this is a lemon-to-lemonade type story. We both quit our jobs for similar reasons and faced with the prospect of being unemployed, we decided to do something we had dreamt and spoken about ... a world tour. With the decision made, we jumped into setting the priorities. We decided on the places to visit - from Cuba to Australia and most everywhere in between. We'll swim in the turquiose waters of Aruba, soak up the majesty of Kaieteur Falls in Guyana and sleep in the lush hinterlands of Surinam, admire the lights of Times Square, New York and segway thru Centennial Park in Atlanta. Maybe catch a game of cricket at Lord's in England and take pictures at the RLD in Amsterdam, take a safari in South Africa and gaze ... read more

Oh my, my, my! What a wonderful summer this is! So far, the weather has been just as gorgeous in Kentucky as it has been in the Caribbean! We have many beautiful lakes and mountains to explore, but I still have to constantly have my fix of palm trees and magnificent beaches! Not to mention-my sinus and allergy issues completely disappear in the Caribbean! It's so wonderful to be able to breathe! : ) We just returned from Anguilla, and, as usual, I have tons of awesome information to share with you! There is no way I will be able to squeeze everything into one issue, so you will get at least two issues out of this island! Anguilla, which rhymes with "vanilla', and means "eel" because of the eel shape of the island, used to ... read more

Well, tomorrow I fly to Costa Rica. To live with a family I dont know in acountry where I dont speak the language--Im a little nervous, but excited. Ive been wanting to do a language immersion program for years, and truthfully, this is probably gonna be my only opportunity to do it. Dreams do come true... So after working for the last six months to pay for this adventure, its finally here. I fly into Miami from Washington, D.C. and then straight into San Jose, CR. Someone from my program is picking me up and taking me to the local bus station which will take me to Turrialba, where my host family will be waiting for me. Did I mention I'm a little nervous. The feeling is similar to when i moved to Dominica, WI back ... read more
