Well, when were in Monteverde we met a guy who had bought this T-shirt, with a cartoon depicting a scary cliff side drive, with Monteverde as the location and a slogan ´´I Survived the road to Monteverde´´ As we had arrived with the Jeep-Boat-Jeep trip we thought that maybe it was the route the local bus took to get there from La Fotuna.....because we had not experienced anything to warrent buying such a Tshirt. We soon realised that it was the route we were now travelling on to the beach! After two hours of bone jarring and a bit of cliff skirting we were so grateful to hit the tar road that would take us to Pontareus, the ferry port for the Nicoya Peninsular. We had to wait a couple of hours for the next ferry ... read more

Thursday 20th April - Thursday 27th April On the thursday I left my cousin Jon in Manuel Antonio and took two buses and a Ferry to the town of Montezuma which is on a peninsula on the west side of Costa Rica. The journey took around 6 hours but it wasn't too bad as it was broken up by the ferry crossing. I got off the bus in in Montezuma with two gorgeous and tall girls from Canada (Tamara and Jordan). We decided to get a room together at a sort of hostel/pension and from then on we hardley separated for a whole week! Unfortunatley I caught a stomach virus a few days earlier so wasn't really well enough to do much, luckily Tamara and Jordan were in the mood for a couple of relaxing days ... read more

Hey, another day in Montezuma. It´s getting better everyday. Yesterday Antoni showed me the best spot to get mangoes. There are tons of trees and they´re all loaded with yummy mangoes. So you just walk down there and load up and your set for the day. I´m so tan now, I didn´t know I could this dark. Don´t worry mom, I use lots o´sunscreen. I look like quite the beach bum now, lots of fun jewelery, and blonde hair, and a great tan. It´s awesome. A couple more days to go here, if I can make myself get on a bus one of these days. It can be really cheap here to if you want it to be. I usually buy one meal of gallo pinto in the morning and then just eat mangoes the rest ... read more

Buenos dias, so it seems I can't leave Montezuma because I love it so much. I've only been to two places and I am already finding spots I could stay for a long long time. Sada, Dave and I went to Cabo Blanco yesterday and it was beautiful. The park was really empty so we had it almost all to ourselves. It was a two hour hike into a gorgeous, deserted beach and then two hours back. The hike was actually pretty hard because it was stupidly hot in the forest. We saw tons of monkeys, big packs of them and we were really close. They were just chillin' in the trees and checking us out as we checked them out. We saw lots of the little monkeys with black faces, and some howlers. If you ... read more

Hola amigos, I´m still in Montezuma and it´s really beautiful here. I´ve met some great people that I´ve been hanging out with for the last few days. One of them is even from Prince George, haha sucker. My tent on the beach is great, not that I really spend much time in it. I usually get up around 5:30am because my tent is in the sun. But it´s great, the beach is deserted at that time of day so I can get in some sunrise yoga...oh yeah. Yesterday we went on a pretty intense hike up to a crazy waterfall and did some jumping. It was nice to get into some fresh water and not be trashed by huge waves every couple of minutes. The hostel is run by a bunch of crazy Italians, I think ... read more

hey everyone, hmmm what has happened in the last few days. Time is going by really slow and really fast at the same time. I'm losing track of the days, is is the 9th today? We went to a surfing competition in Playa Hermosa yesterday, that was pretty sweet. Mmmm surfers. Alex and I left Katie in Jaco today and headed up to Puntarenas. After a relaxing two hours of standing up on a stinking hot packed bus, we finally got there and bought ferry tickets to get over to the Nicoya Pennisula. The ferry was really nice, but again the dreaded death heat. We split up in Cabano and I headed down to Montezuma and she went to Mal Pais. It is so bloody hot everywhere, I'm sweating in places I didn't know possible. At ... read more

What a difference it has been in weather from La fortuna out here on the coast! We made a stop in Monteverde, a town created by some quakers from Alabama in the '40s that wanted to avoid getting drafted. Very nice and expensive hotels around there. We went on a canopy tour where they fire you down steel cables across valleys...it was awesome, such a rush! We were en route to Montezuma on the bus and ended up in Putarenas, a tiny penninsula that used to be a major port about 10 years ago i think. Since then the port had moved and the town was needless to say "run down" I wouldn't walk around after dark there. We took the ferry and it took about 2 hours and we met Daniel, a guy from Switzerland ... read more

Long time since my last blog so Happy New Year to everyone. Since my last entry we had a 5.1 earthquake hit. It was my first one that I recall feeling. All the times I´ve been to San Francisco and they occurred, I never felt one. This one nearly knocked me off my feet, but it was just one big jolt and then I didn´t feel anything else. Other friends felt a slight tremor afterwards for about 10 seconds. Davide felt nothing. There was no damage. Last week our friends Steve and Kathleen took us up to see their house that they are building up in the hills above San Ramon in Los Angeles Sur. I am posting a photo of the view from their house...it´s breathtaking. We then drove up the road about another 10 ... read more
