Tamara and I
Outside our room in Montezuma Thursday 20th April - Thursday 27th April
On the thursday I left my cousin Jon in Manuel Antonio and took two buses and a Ferry to the town of Montezuma which is on a peninsula on the west side of Costa Rica. The journey took around 6 hours but it wasn't too bad as it was broken up by the ferry crossing.
I got off the bus in in Montezuma with two gorgeous and tall girls from Canada (Tamara and Jordan). We decided to get a room together at a sort of hostel/pension and from then on we hardley separated for a whole week!
Unfortunatley I caught a stomach virus a few days earlier so wasn't really well enough to do much, luckily Tamara and Jordan were in the mood for a couple of relaxing days so we just spent our time on the beach (in the shade for me so no tan yet!) and eating out. We did manage to visit and take a swim in the nearby waterfalls one morning which was really nice.
Montezuma was a lot smaller then I thought it would be but it was quite cute and full of backpackers.
I planned to get back
to San Jose on the Sunday and Tamara and Jordan decided to join me so they could then make their way over to the Carribbean. I would have liked to visit the area of Monteverde and see the active volcano Arenal, but I though it would be best to get back to the city as I wasn't very well and would be flying out of there.
The journey to San Josae wasn't great, the roads in Costa Rica are very bumpy and very windy, so once we got to San Jose we spent a full day just relaxing and concentrating on feeling better! We went back to the hostel that I stayed at on the day I arrived in Costa Rica. It has everything you need (including swimming pool, restaurant, tv room, movie room, free internet) and is like an oasis in a big dirty city!
So I managed to get to a pharmacy and luckily for me they can give you antibiotics over the counter without having to see a doctor! I was almost immediately better and celebrated by making up for lost meals by eating everything in site!!!
The second day in San Jose I joined a tour
which went up the Poas Volcano. Unfortunatley as it was the start of the rainy season and we were in the clouds, I couldn't see the crator or nearby lagoon at all! It was just a sea of grey fog! But after that we visited a butterfly farm, hummingbird area and the La Paz waterfalls which were all spectacular. I particulary liked the tiny litle hummingbirds! The final part of the tour was a boat ride. We saw some monkeys and Igunas but I had already seen many of these much closer in the National Park in Manuel Antonio. The highlight of the tour for me was actually the drive back to San Jose. We took a route that went through the forests and across the hills and volcanos. They are so thickly covered with forest and you have clouds above and below you..the views were just wonderful! but unfortunately the road was a main route and we couldn't stop to take photos which was such a shame as the sun was setting perfectly.
On our final day in San Jose, Jordan, Tamara and I had our final breakfast and said our goodbyes - they left for the east coast
and I went to the airport to catch my plane to LA. I had to stay over a night in Charlotte, North Carolina as there was no immediate transfer to LA but have now arrived at my hotel and I start my Trek America tour at 7.30am tomorrow morning.

Hope you're all well!
