Hei folkens!!

First a brief recap with pics of my time in Montezuma, the place I visited before departing for Lima. So basically I spent my last few days living in my cool little shanty apartment. Eran left me but I adopted two wonderful Americans, a couple, Christian and Angie. Together we split the rent and it was great. So I did end up going to santa terasa, gorgeous beach!!! I climbed more waterfalls, the next day, and also did a 10km hike mostly uphill in a park called cabo blanco or something. Twisted my ankle a bit but am ok now. THe hike was through dry jungly forest to a beautiful beach, totally awesome. So the glow stick people. Not sure if I mentioned it but everynight outside my balcony I would observe a doesn´t little people ... read more

So I was gonna a hop a bus to santa teresa today but i missed the first one so i guess i'll do it tomorrow. Went to the internet cafe where they have flat screen macs to post some pics. (I know, high tech!!) The thing starting screwing up and eventually completely corrupted my 16 GB pent drive!! dammit! with all my files, pics, etc. However I was lucky to still have all my pics on my SD card which it didn't have a chance to chew up. No compensation just tough peanuts for me... So around noon Eran and I decided to hike to a "nearby waterfall" el chorro or something. 3 hours along the beautiful 7 beaches and a small climb and we were there. Breathtaking and beautiful but not much of a waterfall. ... read more

Well where do I begin!! So I got on the night ferry from Putaranas to Paquera, wow was it beautiful and cool. Lovely moonlight crossing over the sea. Great fun!! Plus loads of places to do pull ups and strange displays of gymnastics. Not to mention a full bar! lol We got to the port around 11pm. Silly me I believed it was in the city/village but no, it was not... middle of NOWHERE. Just darkness. A local suggested to sleep on the floor at the harbor but... hmmmm... no... there were guys in pickup trucks charging insane prices to take us to town so we said what the hell and hopped in the back. The ride was f#%$#^ awesome!!! Midnight stars above, whippin through the forest on a windy road just barely holding on to ... read more

What a top little chilled fishing town! We all chilled out in this cheap little town, swung in the hammock on the beach & had a beer or 2. There was a great waterfall a short hike away so we went for a walk and it was tops! A 20m fall into a lush, cool, deep pool. We swam, had a beer or 2 & climbed up behind the fall and dived out through the H2O. Then we spotted this local lad climbing the side of the fall?? 5m then 10m then 3 quarter the way up, farkin high!! Then he launches himself into the air & performs a perfect dive. I reckon i could do that!! "hola amigo, can u show me the best way to climb up?" "Si, follow me" At a glance the ... read more

After Playa del Coco we headed further south to Tamarindo...a town full of surfers, so we figured we'd try our hand. We found a lesson at our second hostel and along with lots of other beginners we let the ocean knock us around for the afternoon. But after several attempts, and a bit of figuring out the timing, I managed to stand up! It was awesome... though short lived. I managed to get up a few times during the lesson...though standing with no control was really what i was doing. When we had set up our lesson the day before, along the same dusty street (we were filthy after everyday from this road it was unbelievable) we found a place offering deep sea fishing trips, and we had asked about pricing just about everywhere, only to ... read more

i'm down in costa rica actually on the nicoya peninsula. i was going to volunteer at rainsong wildlife sanctuary, but it was awful, disorganized, and scary. i'm here for a few weeks and was looking for new volunteering opportunities that are actually volunteering (and not having to pay to work for free). does anyone have any ideas or websites i can take a look at? i'm open to volunteer work in almost any part of the country, but i prefer it to be volunteer work with animals. or if anyone has any suggestions of what i can do for the next few weeks on a slim to nil budget (since i planned on volunteering and not spending a whole lot of money). i can pay for my own accomodations and food, but suggestions for cheap programs ... read more

Since we last wrote we have left Nicaragua and got to our Xmas destination! We had a few nice relaxed days in Granada (apart from being followed round a park by a crazy man offering us to have xmas with his family) beforre heading south and across to the island of Ometepe, which consists of the 2 volcanoes Concepcion and Maderas. It was an interesting trip over on a small boat that was literally overflowing with locals and tourists. On arrival we were convinced to get a taxi to the spot we wanted to stay at, Merida, as the bus takes about 3 hours despite it only being about 20km or so away! We got to a really nice hostel where most people seem to pay through the teeth but set up our little tent and ... read more

slept like crap the nite before i left for cabo blanco. should have brought my full tent and carried the few extra pounds. all i have is a bivouc tent tarp kind of thing that has no wall and my mosquito net. i have a ground tarp, but the bugs can get in under the net. so no more camping. just one more night. i missed the 1st bus to to cabo blanco because the the book had the time wrong. but that was okay because i got to eat comido tipical, typical food. then i caught the 10am bus and met 2 german sisters and we did the hike together. thier names were tanya and ilona. it was very hot and humid. we saw white face monkeys, an ant eater type of thing and the ... read more
